Na, just some light cut polish with the machine did the trick, I think thats right anyways. Was hoping to give it another wash and a quick detail for Alford tomorrow but weathers been so ****e, so you will have to take the little blue beastie as she is..

to Chris for helping us out remove the god awful etching left on the paintwork thanks to a seagul last weekend. Some elblow grease and a wee machine polish later and its looking braw again. Cheers mate,

RS Grants is the best bet then if you fancy a UK turbo.

I asked this sort of question a while back when I was looking around to buy one, have a look at this post: What to look for As paul555sti said, there a some right dogs out there, see above post. Eventually I found one on here that had been cherished and well looked after which was very lucky. Two of the previous owners are members. Good luck with hunt.

Totally feel for you mate, sounds like they have mucked you about big style. I think your best bet would be to return it and get your money back. At least you have this option available to you, get the cash back and walk away, a little bit of patience often plays into these things and there is probably something better out there that isnt going to give you a lot of grief. Whilst there might not be an STI in your price range, Im sure there are a few nice WRX models out there with some choice mods that you could pick up for that sort of money. Just my 2p's worth, Cheers Chris.

Yep, will be well looked after, only had it out for a short drive last night and then it was washed, dried and then put into the garage all tucked up for the night. Proper detail when I get back from holiday I think. Might need to get a sports cat fitted though, Wife isnt to impressed with the burble , thinks its gonna upset the neighbours. Chris.

Sweet , thanks for this Craig.

Yip, cheers for the PM with info Jamie. No problem about the meet, there is always July mate. Had almost given up looking to be honest, I couldnt quite stretch my money for RS Grants and all the others I had looked at were past their best, then the opportunity to get this one came up and I knew from the pictures that it was going to be a good one, after going to look at it and spending sometime with the previous owner Paul, the decision was made. As for spec, I didnt mention it, but turns out this car has been in SIDC before with Jamie, who kindly supplied me with some more info about the exhaust system. Anyways spec is as follows: Hi Spec Monster 4 pot brake conversion with Ferodo DS2500 pads with Goodridge brake hoses Recently refurbished Leda Adjustable coilover suspension, New TRE's / Ball joints and full fast road alignment by Progrip Stainless steel 3" decat d/pipe into 2.5" - Hayward and scott downpipe, magnex centre pipe and an original scoobysport backbox. Andy Forrest stage 1 remap Exedy Clutch and Toda Racing Lightweight Flywheel Quick shift, samco y pipe and inlet pipe, panel filter, Front strut brace. Whiteline droplinks all round Crystal light kit Prodrive mudflaps Fully refurbished and powder coated anthrisite 17" subaru alloy wheels with Khumo tyres Interior is totally standard except for prodrive gearknob and a gearstick lock Heaps of paperwork including original bill of sale, lots of servise history and receipts. Apart from a few stone chips on the bumper and the wee bits on the roof, its as straight as an arrow. Any recommendations on someone to look at the wee bits on the roof in the Dundee area would be much appreciated. Cheers for all the comments, I think alot of credit goes to all the previous owners who have kept it in such good condition, I plan to do the same as its a weekend toy only. Chris.

Well after an extremely long day yesterday I made my way down from work in Aberdeen to pick up the car. Extremely pleased with the car, took it easy on the way home just to get used to it, blown away by both the performance and handling. Chris

Can give it a try if you can find a better pic of the alloy, something a bit more face on without such a dark background would be ideal. Like I said doing wheels in photoshop isnt my strong point, if the wheel angle can match the angle of the pic of the car it makes it slighty easier. Back to topic.

no probs mate, I like the first set.
-
quick and dirty but you get the idea. Use photoshop on a daily basis but must admit I can never get tyres or wheels looking good, regardless. Anyways hope that helps.

Cheers for the comments folks, Aye thats something I might look into, Im not looking to do anything cosmetically to the car except get a few wee bits on the roof looked at. Apart from that it will stay exactly as bought. Was well worth the trip down mate, the journey home was a tad bit slower though.

Purchased a classic today, hopefully all going well I should have it either Monday or Tuesday. Has some choice mods and has been well cared for by a current SIDC member. Just want to say a big thanks to Paul for his time today, some piccys below. Cheers Chris.

Ach well, looks like I didnt miss much then or waste JohnS's time by going to look at it. But did end up wasting my time looking at a supposed minter in Perthshire, see my other thread. Fingers crossed all going well, I should have something lined up this weekend. Good luck in the hunting, hope you find something soon.

Its easier to buy bits on the sly and hide them from the mrs mate. Trying to hide the fact that Ive withdrawn money to purchase a car from a joint saving account isnt so easy.
-
similar to this... (Sorry, pics bit blurry as was really sunny and couldnt see the screen) Alarmingly the owner has tried to hide the holes in pictures four and five by taping over them with black electrical tape. When I opened the boot there was damp patch, then upon further inspection I noticed the tape, and the owner said, never noticed that before , and then said oh it must be to protect the rust underneath. Funnily enough he stopped just before the holes came into view, I only found them when I took the tape right off. Rear arches were a mess and the roof was showing signs of rust as well due to deep unrepaired stone chips. Rather dissapointing as the rest of the car was good, drove well, no major dinks or dents. Lots of reciepts for work done at AWD and old MOTS and bills for everything down to items as small as lightbulbs. Such a pity that the the owner hadnt spend money on keeping the rust at bay as much as he had done on mods. One plus point though, the chap had kept all the original parts, so it could have been returned to standard and some cash made from the mods, but too much work for my liking. The search continues...

At the time mate, your car was within the budget I had set, originally I was looking at STI's Blob that were much more, your car was a wildcard. Unfortunately things didnt pan out the way I wanted with my finances. Believe me I was gutted when I came home and did some sums and spoke to the mrs. Im still on the hunt its just Im looking for something that is going to blow out all the savings that I have. Depending on what happens with my viewing tomorrow, it might end up being to your advantage anyway if you end up removing the mods, I would be buying half the stuff you have on the car. Chris.

Right folks, as per the title, Im going to look at a Classic tomorrow. Having viewed a few Scoobs, Im still not really any wiser in regards to any problems I should look for when buying. Having spoken to the current owner, the car has been slightly modified, has a full service history and has had some work done on it from AWD in Perth. Apart from checking the usual paperwork, receipts for work done etc, what else should I be looking for? Im not really expecting any problems as the car sounds like it has been well maintained and cherished, however is there any specific problems which I should be looking out for. The classic in question is year 2000 model. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Chris.

I hope your not talking about me mate...
