right im getting brakes for my birthday !!
colin_ross replied to bigdavie's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Depends what sort of abuse you're going to be giving them. Normal, fast road, knockhill? Also, what sort of pads are you going to use as some are tougher on disc that others? As a personal rule I'd always overspec brakes, it's not somewhere you want to be cutting corners (I found out the hard way). -
Looking good Kenny, its going to be a minter [Y]

Better late then never. Did the oil chnage on Monday after 500 miles this time and here's what it picked up, Not as bad as the first time but I'm still glad I got one.

Holy sh!t mate. Take it everyone was ok? And I thought I had it bad being mugged by the talivan.

Looking good Kenny. In know you said it all the prep work was a pain but it sure looks like it paid off. When the engines all painted up it'll be one of the best looking RA's out there.. [Y]

Heaviest cos they don't have chocolate components for engine parts.........[][] Is it just the newage drivers that are lightweight then???[] Well if we are going by your portly stature i would defo say "YES" [] It's all bought and paid for mate. Besides, the only reason you've a 24" waist is that most of your food gets stuck in that beard.

Bargeddie This is not good timing as I'm due to have the car mapped on Wedneday and it really need to have the correct fuel in it so the map is not out for every other time I fill it up. Think I'm going to start brewing my own, it's got to work out cheaper than £1.03 a litre.

I know, its shocking isn't it. The really scary thing is that this is picked up from the sump, not from before the filter. I've now finished running the car in and will be doing another oil chnage on it tomorrow prior to its final map. I'll take another picture and see what is on it this time, hopefully not quite as much as the parts shoud now be bedded in.

Here you go, Like I said, 400 miles and this is what it picked up. Here is the thread I started, hope it helps you make up your mind. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?...hlight=magnetic
-
I've got one. Started a thead on scoobynet about the merits of a magnetic plug in an alloy engine and most people said it was a good idea, especially as I was just about to run a new engine in. Will post a pic of what it captured after 400 miles when I upload it from the camera

Sorry Callum, no gearbox oil at this end. I leave that area to Bill. Hope you get it sorted asap.

Anyone going to the Banzai day at Crail (Sun 23rd)?
colin_ross replied to colin_ross's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Weather report still looking good for this, any more takers? -
You needing oil Callum? I've got some of the usual stuff in the garage.

I run an Apexi Power intake on my STI5 (same as your P1). I only moved to an induction kit as I couldn't keep the airbox when I fitted a FMIC. The Apexi is a dry filter which is essential for a my99 style mafs as oiled filters can gub a maf in no time and as we all know a dodgy maf is the quickest way to blow your engine. The apexi also has the benefit of being rather small so will fit where others won't. It'll be up for sale as of Wednesday when I change over to a map based system if you're interested.
-
Sorry Chris, was going to phone Wilky tomorrow to let him know but will have to give this one a miss. Will be going to the Banzai day at Crail on Sunday and 2 days out with the car in a row would be an instant red card from the boss. Have a great time.

Not too sure what to recommend to you Ross. I found that unless I did a 5k launch it bogged down very badly but I later found out that my car was fitted it a 4.7 kg flywheel which goes some way to explaining it. It'd be murder on the clutch and box with a grippy surface though. The dccd does make a big differnce. I found that setting it 3/4 forward helped tame the wheel spin and if you get a chance in between changes you can roll it off when in 3rd or higher. BTW, be prepared to use all 5 gears in a type r by the end of the strip. What time you heading up, maybe see you there?
