TBH I'm not a big fan of threads like that. What model car, how old, what job etc. Please just fill in the details and press enter. If a newbie started a thread like that the same people would just fill in the same detaila and press enter again. You might have learned a fact ot two about somebody but you haven't really gotten to know them or interacted with them. Don't get me wrong I'm all for the new blood. In fact I started a thread today specifically about them and the common questions that they ask but it wasn't in an attempt to silence them. As I said we're all learning and if it can spark some debate that can only be a good thing. Thats when you'll get to know someone

I can see your point but the sort of post that get a handy link posted into them often go ...."can I decat witout a remap???" Where if they had said " I've done a search and read about decats but still have a few question...." it would be a different story.

A remap and chipping are not the same thing. A chip will change settings within your ecu to allow you to run more boost for example. It will not be configured for your car, it's a one size fits all. A remap on the other hand is tailored for your car only and while it is more expensive it is the safest and most effective method.

Dunno Stevie, the first one says its for a GC8, which is a classic, but I don't think it's as straight forward as that. IIRC there are different classic ones. What year and model of car do you have?

I don't drive anywhere near as agressively as I used too but I probably get there faster. When I had my 1.3 Escort it was ten tenths even when popping out to the shops. It was a giggle at the time but when I see it now I cringe. 99% of my driving is done in the Focus just now and I drive it like my 2 and 4 year olds are in the back. The 1% of driving that gets done in the Suabru I drive it like a guy who's not used to driving a fast car. New years resolution..... more seat time.

Few things spring to mind Big spolier Different bumper Different Seats Phase 2 engine, manifold etc Differerent ecu (can be ecutek'd) Defo 2 pot rears (not sure about the version 4) Stronger gerabox Probably a load more too

If you are wanting to run a jap import with a decat and no remap I'd defo want some v-power with a dose of octane booster. What would be even better is some for of det monitoring, have you fitted a knocklink to warn you if predetonation sets in? I ran my jdm for ages with a decat and no remap so it can be done but make sure the fueling is ok before you go giving it big licks.

They're best done from the top. Take the washer bottle out on the passenger side to give you a bit more room and lift out the airbox on the other. Have band-aids at the ready for those knuckles. Either that or rent a double-jointed midget
