Maybe so but take my type of car as an example.
Sti 5, famed for popping engines ah la P1 folklore. Lets start with the basic first mods by adding a big exhaust, induction kit and now lets chuck on a decat. All of these things will make the car faster but also run leaner on a car thats already running on a lower octane fuel than it's been designed for. Not to mention the fact that when the maf goes, and it will, you'll lean it out even further and join the new engine club.
As I said, I did it and I was fine but was that luck or the fact that I took measures to prevent a problem? IMHO opinion a remap probably won't be required but it will depend on the model and other mods.
