  1. Careful Andy, it maight be a tainted one courtesy of the MLR.
  2. Was that not TOTB?
  3. Think it was in June last year. No official date has been announced yet but should be loads of time to get ready.
  4. As we discussed Peter, cometic gaskets are superior to subaru ones. There isn't a great price difference as Andy said so it would seem like a good move to me. If you are going down the cams route are you going to get the vernier pulleys to to maximise their effect?
  5. These are two totally different types of boxes. I'd decide on which one suits you better rather that which one you can get a hold of the easiest. What are yor priorities? Price, ratios, strength, weight?
  6. There is a bar that run over the top of the turbo from the hot side to the cold, it opens the actuator to release excess pressure. If it became jammed in the open position (not common but possible) it would not allow the car to make any boost. It should be failry stiff but you should be able to move it back and forward a little. Edited to add I was only joking about the diesel. It would be a ruff as wheat-a-bix toilet paper.
  7. Oh dear. It's never nice when things like that happen but as least it was on the hot side, imagine what that could have done if drawn into the engine. Good excuse to upgrade though.
  8. Check your receipt, you didn't put diesel in did you? Have you checked the actuator on the turbo isn't jammed open? An ecu reset should show up any sensor faults that would put the car into limp mode and any mechanical faults normally have secondary symptoms i.e. smoke, rough idle, noise, mis fires.
  9. Would need to know your long term power goals to make a decent judgement. Unless you're going fmic or silly power stick with the panel filter.
  10. First off, it's a pig of a job in situ. Access, or lack thereof is the major problem so anything you can do to inprove this is going to help. Remove everything that could get in your way so that's water bottle, battery, airbox etc. Remove the stabiliser bar between the bulkhead and the bellhousing and undo the engine mounts. This will allow you to jack the engine up a few inches and as tesco keeps telling us, every little helps. This is as good as your access is going to get so just crack on and remove the rocker covers at this stage. If you're doing it on your drive make sure you put some cardboard down as this is when things get messy. The covers will come off easy enough but the real PITA is cleaing the oil and sealer off of the heads. Take your time and do it right or else you'll be back at square one when they leak afterwards. Make sure you replace ALL the seals, so thats the cover gaskets, spark plugs holes and all off the bolt gaskets. Smear all if the seals in 3 bond to give you the best chance of getting a good seal. Make sure you use a torque wrench to out the bolts back in as they do snap very easily.
  11. Why yes it is Frank, thanks for asking. Unfortunately is still at the same stage as it was 2 months ago as I haven't set foot inside the garage since the start of November but never the less, it is nearly there. Couple of niggles (and Squiggles ) to sort out and job's a goodun. It'll be ready soon, just one big push and we'll be there.
  12. The pulleys, belt, and covers all have timing marks on them. Line them up like this
  13. Yup, and don't think it doesn't hurt too
  14. Now we're talkin. Let's get a list of anyone thats up for it and then we'll have something to shoot for. Jimser, unless it's changing for this year you just pitch up and see what you can do. You fall into whatever category depending on your results. It means you don't need a mega motor to come away with a trophy. It's just for a giggle after all.
  15. That's what I was thinking. It's not like it's a team event like TOTB anyway. There's some great Scottish cars just now and some that are in the pipeline and it seemed like a great opportunity to show of what we can do.
  16. Anyone thinking of competing next year? Thinking about SSO, sounds like a laugh. http://www.scoobynet.com/scoobylive/ 25th of May. Scrict noise limits in force unless your car can do less than a 11.3.
  17. When my went (both times) I just took the car off the road until I'd sourced a replacement. I dare say you could run it but I like to err on the side of caution. If you must use it drive like miss daisy. The lamda sensor may not be fudged if you've caught it soon enough. I'd be tempted to do the maf first and see how the car is after. If it is away you'll have a lump idle and sh!t fuel consumpsion. Both times mine went I never got a CEL. Apparently they go gradually and don't just "fail" so the ecu doesn't pick up on it. Do an ecu reset though and it should throw one up straight away. Just disconnect the battery overnight and see what it throws up in the morning. Mind and have any stereo/alarm/etc codes handy first though.
  18. The co2 sensor is also known as the lamda sensor and it located at the top of the downpipe. What nornally happens is the maf goes (99/00's are infamous for it, hence why I asked for the year) and that make the car runn very lean. This will cook the lamda sensor in no time so when the maf goes the lamda usually follows. Be extremely careful how you drive the car until this is resolved as this can result in some very serious damage.
  19. What happened to the rb Dave?
  20. What year of car do you have Frank, some years are more prone to certain failures? Was there any sort of missfire, lumpyness, smoke, noise ect? It may well have sent into safe mode, have you tried to reset the ecu or do a fault check?
  21. Well I rode you good enough that day at Crail
  22. I seriously doubt Pete's car will have 530 at the wheels, even if he does have 4 of them. I will concede it is harder to launch a bike though but the clutchless shifts and the sequential box do help a bit. Playsatan (gsxr rider)

  24. Looks aren't everything. You two should know that better than most.
  25. As if there was any doubt.
