Chris, so you can see the difference, here are my GT-B headers, very carefully wrapped and painted and my new RCM headers coated by Zircotec sorry for the slightly hazy pics, but a 5 megapixel phone just doesn't match up to a 35mm DSLR

Stephen, as usual with all my plans, they take longer than anticipated, but get there at some point. Peter, my sump is the same as the one in this thread (top of page 2) Old sump thread that came up recently

Where are you willing to travel to, what free time do you have (ie - do you need it done at a weekend), how desperate do you need it done and what budget do you have? Answer these and we can point you in the right direction.

Well, got the clutch and 4.3kg flywheel put in, and there is absolutely no problem with how it drives. The biggest noticeable point with it is how fast the revs drop on the over-run when slowing in to junctions. It doesn't try to stall, with the ICV not really noticing it's there. The clutch is slightly heavier than I was hoping it would be, but not too sharp which is an upside. The reason I actually bought a Helix Autosport is that I actually had one previously in the wife's Celica GT4, and found it very good. The TD05 is on also, along with the Zircotec coated RCM Headers and Mongoose exhaust. It's still running standard boost, so feels a little flat at the moment, and the TD05 spools up later (but hangs on longer up the revs) and is in desperate need of more boost to make it come alive. New timing belt, fuel filter and spark plugs all fitted when I was there. The only omission was the baffled sump, which I'll get to at a later date. It's now trying to get time to fit the KW coilovers and bigger brakes.

Best 2 I can remember were my wife's Fiesta RS Turbo (admittedly with 200 bhp) beating several Cosworths and a RS500 round Donington Grand Prix circuit at National Day. Was later told that the RS500 driver was a Formula Ford Racer or something - didn't help him much. The second was on my VFR400 NC30 up the EK to Strathaven road one night with a Triumph 900 up my chuff - came to the twisty bit at Flatmoss and left him for dead - I made about 600 yards on him and he had to give it big to get back on to me before I turned off in to Chapelton - to be fair to him he gave me a big thumbs up to recognise the effort I had put in. Not really been owned by anything that shouldn't have beat me - been owned by a few here and there that more than should have though, so no disgrace.

Thanks for the well wishes troops. Hopefully will have it out at some of the meets this year. It does have an old retro feel to it, which I do enjoy, especially showing things like a Porsche Boxster S the way to go one night. There is nothing quite like a £30K car getting outpaced by a 1989 "japanese bit of what is that". John, I know you are right about the flywheel, but the 6.7kg one is at my mum's, and by the time I get there, remove the gearbox of the engine that it is on, and get back home, I'll have 2 hours less in my day. I'm going to chance my arm, throw the clutch in with the TODA flywheel and see how we go. The car is to be used much more as a toy - and if it ain't right, I put the car back on the ramp and swap it over at a later date. I'll have to find more time after this, as I have 4pot fronts, 290mm single pot rears, KW coilovers and a KS3 knock analyser to fit amongst lots of other bits and pieces.

Right, finally getting some time to start to fettle the car this Saturday, so will be starting with the following: As a few of you may now, I have an original 1989 Legacy RS, with a large pile of bits to make it a rather fun "sleeper". Stupidly decided to bugger the cost and go get a Helix clutch, which is starting to be needed rather desperately. The only dilema I have is whether to use the TTV 6.7kg flywheel or the really Gucci but light TODA 4.3kg. Any opinions by anyone who has run either of these weight of flywheels? The next lot, has to be an all in one job really. Yet again, I thought long term, and went and got the beautiful RCM headers (that I got from Phil on the UK Legacy forum) coated by Zircotec. These will flow in to a low mileage TD05H that came off a low mileage GC8 RA. Then they will head down the Mongoose exhaust (again from Phil). This will then enable me to put the series 2 ecu in with the VOS chip When I am in there, the sump may get replaced by a very nice baffled sump that was lying about. This is further down the list, but makes sense if I have all the exhaust off for access. If I manage this in a day, then I'll be quite happy, and realistically very tired. This is just the start of a few more days work that is required.

That is the official book time in the Autodata times manual.

I think a clutch change and a MOT may be required in Paisley then

That's what happens when economies go down the tubes and exchange rates go nutty.

And they wonder why we think of them as stupid tw@ts - no further proof required -
There is a lot of questions to be answered on this - what type of use is this for, how much power, what sort of budget, etc, etc. I have recently had to buy 2 clutches for both my Legacies. My GT-B got a TTV 6.7kg flywheel, and I had a TODA 4.3kg flywheel that I had "lying" about- so decided to put that in my Series 1 RS. The RS won't be getting used much more as a commuting tool, so am less worried about inertia effect, wheras the GT-B will be my everyday car, so want it still to be user friendly. I'm putting Helix Autosport organic clutches in both - I am only ever probably going to max either of them around the mid 300's for horsepower, so it will cope with either car no problem. I chose the Helix over the Exedy units, as I have driven some cars with exedy's and find them a little sharp - but that is only my own opinion. I did have a car with a paddle clutch many years ago, and would advise against it unless you are going for massive power or solely track use.

David, my mate is the Sparco Worldwide Motorsport Rep (don't know if that is a good job to have right now ), but he knows all the F1, WRC, A1GP teams etc, and he can guarantee, that Ford's bill is nowhere near that of Citroen. It's just that Malcolm has been damned shrewd and put some other eggs in the basket in case the Ford ones fell out (remember when they lost Markko Martin and Francios Duval in 2004 IIRC because of Ford's late decision to give a budget). It's just clever money management that gets people like Stobart and Abu Dubai Tourism on board in case something goes Pete Tong - as it looks like it is about to.

I've got some bottles of wine I need stored for Christmas, any chance???? Personally wouldn't have one on mine, but do love how outrageous it is - makes an Escort Cossie look tame.

Fairly straight forward, just make sure you back off the handbrake adjusters completely, then adjust them up till the wheels lock and wind the adjusters back 5 or 6 clicks when the new diiscs are on. Have you already got new discs or are you still hunting for some?

Ok, so bid 3 is at £160, so this is a bummer, and at that he'll make about £80 if it stays at that amount (and why would any idiot pay more to an unscrupulous t**t like that). Bid 4 doesn't even have any bids so far - Ha Ha - serves them right. Grant and Imy, that isn't joining them, that is showing them how it should be done , so well done for being smart enough to do it. I hope people bid well and high for both of these.

Biggest problem with them is numpties using impact guns on them and over tightening them. Wound up by hand and tightened with a torque wrench - you can see them doing that at a stealership - NOT

Glasgow/strathclyde Santa Cruise Christmas 2008

Have a great day out there folks. Sorry I can't make it, but it is my daughter's dancing show at midday, and if I miss that, I've been promised that I'll need a hospital appoitment. I'm sure you'll all make a lot of kids very happy this Christmas. -
Airbags aren't part of the MOT, John. If you struggle, or need the light put out (properly or otherwise), give me a shout.
-
That looks more than a little bit like the pump assembly and filter from a older Merc, and was used on models right up to the 6.0 V12 IIRC, so flow shouldn't be too big of a problem.

Bailey, well done for being the bigger man out of this, and I too hope your fortune improves (if it does, I'll bet that your were glad you kept the print)

Bloody sickening, I hope the Royal Mail loses these in the post with no insurance and both parties end up fighting each other for the money. The bare minimum to be donated back to the charity is 80% in my opinion (the rest to cover the cost of purchase and postage), if it was a genuine reason for sale (which I don't actually believe). Bloody scumbags - and I'm sorry, but I don't believe the bidders are any better for putting more than the original price on as a bid. I'm sorry that Grant and Imy have to see such things happen after all their hard work.

Agreed TheWelsho Thanks troops, glad to have helped out. I'm always glad to help other enthusiasts, and has helped me get a little more experience of something else now, and both ways of fitting them. Craig -
