  1. The wagon looks like it has had a Legacy single turbo engine fitted (the chargecooler is a dead giveaway). The only thing worthwhile on it is the wheels.
  2. Spotted you last night Jim at Darnley, were you paying GMac in food tokens?
  3. Richie, if you get the pads and pop down to my garage in Seedhill, it will take no time at all as long as nothing is seized.
  4. Thanks for that Callum, I hadn't actually thought of that one - I'll have a look.
  5. It would be appreciated if you could have a look Arch, but no worries if you don't, as similar products from Turbosmart and GFB seem good value and I know the quality from them are good. I'm also looking at the 3 port boost solenoids from both Perrin and Turbosmart - are they both of similar quality? Iain, the VOS chip already does a quality remap, so am just looking to get the boost set properly. I need the VOS chip, because as far as I'm aware, no other moderately priced system controls the chargecooler. No matter what I end up fitting, the car will be going to Hypertech and geting checked for safe running on the rolling road. I also have a KS-3 knock analyser to watch for any nasty surprises. I know what you are all saying about the AVCR, but I don't really need anything that extensive at the moment (until the big round of upgrades comes - but that's a while away yet) Thanks for all the replies so far, keep them coming. Cheers Craig
  6. Yeah, I don't just do wheels studs, Defi's and Mot's Billy needed a less expensive option (I would never call it cheap), but still made a few choice mods to help aid longevity hopefully.
  7. I'm not a 100% sure, but I think that he may already have spent his hard earned
  8. A bit too bling for me Arch. I don't see the point in paying for something with such an advanced display that I don't actually want, but if I do go for the whole "Fast and Furious" look, then this will be at the top of my list with a Nitrous Kit. Has anyone used a GFB Atomic or Reactor unit - look roughly what I want?
  9. Looking for a little advice on raising and controlling the boost on my 89 Legacy RS. I've got a VOS chip, but it is one for a car with a VF turbo. I have upgraded recently to a TD05 (which Adrian Vos also does a chip for), but have been advised that if I control the boost, then the chip doesn't need to be changed. What methods of boost control are available - I'm not particularly bothered about instant adjustment, or flashy dash displays, just something that controls the boost accurately. Price is important, but I'm more interested in something that won't let me down. Your thoughts please ladies and gentlemen. Craig
  10. How's the running coming on Billy? Get it run in right and all the nice bits should make it right, but please get rid of the LED lights under the car!
  11. They are only designed to move about minimally, so if it moves a lot, then the top strut mount needs renewed - it's a common fail item on MOT's.
  12. Awesome Car Andy, and I would love to be one of the folk saying I was thinking about getting one, but I'll have to think about one for 10 years before I can afford one (Thanks again Mr G Brown). Hope you enjoy every moment of it, you are a very lucky man.
  13. Hope the paint "shimmers" with a nice effect Jimser, as I actually think it looks fantastic in the pictures. As for the price, you'd even get your money back if you had to break it, so definately a good buy.
  14. Nope, got to disagree Cal, it's far funnier since no-one knows what he has got. Jimser, will it still be loud enough to make your ears bleed, or is that getting sorted before you get it?
  15. Are you chasing the car you were telling me about Jimser - if so a lot of folk are going to be quite jealous
  16. And that's what I do with every change - done absolutely loads now, and never had a comeback. I only ever crank the engine with a sensor off when I have done major engine surgery, as there is a lot less residual oil about then.
  17. You have posted up at a weekend though Dan, so less people are about on a weekend where the sun is out. From what I have heard, you will only get a benefit from a 3" system if you have over 400bhp, and that a 2.5" system is better up till that point. I think I read a reply from Wuz to that effect, although I do apologise to Wuz in advance if I have misquoted him.
  18. About 5 years ago I hired one from a place in Milngavie/Bearsden. I vaguely remember about £40-50 per day, but it was a brand new Brian James unit, so top quality.
  19. As much as I hate to do this (I was wanting to get this for myself at a later date), but Wilky has a VERY NICE bottom end for sale (I'm assuming it still is available), and would be ideal - total to buy and have it fitted with new gaskets - less than 2K.
  20. No, that is correct. The 35 and 40 profile parts of a tyre size are the "aspect ratio". This is the percentage of the width of the tyre that is the sidewall height - so 225 x 40% = 90mm sidewall(not exact, but for point of this) , 245 x 35% = 86mm (so like I said - it was a guess at the right size). If you used what you suggested, a 225 x 35% = 79mm, the difference between front and rears is greater than what I suggested (by almost double). Now take what I have given as examples, then using what you learned at school to do with working out the circumference of a circle with the help of Pythagora's thereom (spelling?) which if I remember correctly is the radius of a circle multilpied by 3.147 (IIRC), and you can work out how much further/less a wheel on the front of a car would travel compared to the one on the rear. At what point it starts to upset the centre diff I don't actually know, but do know that old Vauxhall Cavaliers and Calibra's used to blow the centre diff if badly uneven tyres were on different axles of the car and that is 7mm of a difference.
  21. I think the biggest thing with running different size tyres front to rear is that the rolling circumference is the same, so the diffs are not working against each other, so something along the lines of 225/40R18 fronts and 245/35R18 rears may work although I haven't checked the exact rolling circumference on them - that is roughly what you are looking for.
  22. I see about the Jeep tyres now, in your first post you put 1050, and then 10.50 in your second so obviously the tyres are 10.50 inches wide. Every day is a learning day. I hate to correct you at the end of your rant, but the STi did have bigger wheels to go over the STi Brembos, and I stand corrected that they are actually 7.5" wide. If you try to fit standard WRX wheels with the correctly fitted 215/45R17's on an STi, they will not fit and fowl the calipers - FACT. Hence the STi has wider wheels with wider tyres to accomodate this, and as Peter has stated, JDM cars even came with 235's on them. So back to the original point - Yes John, 215's will fit the wheels, they are stretched ever so slightly, and will not be ultimately as good as the equivalent 225's, but since it is on a budget (if you weren't you'd have just splashed the cash on the correct 888's), they will work with no detriment that you will notice.
  23. James, what size are your tyres on you jeep, because those aren't normal numbers, unless the first number is a 31" tyre (seen this and much bigger in Iceland) and the last is a 15" wheel, but what is the part in the middle? BTW, the 45 isn't a direct number but the percentage of the width of the tyre (therefore a 235/60R15 is a taller tyre than a 205/60R16). The number is called the aspect ratio. All newages don't automatically have 225 tyres. All newage WRX's come with 215/45R17, wheras STi's come with 225/45R17 on wider wheels to accomodate the Brembo brakes, and I'm guessing that is what John is wondering about, whether the slight extra size of the wheel (I think they are a 8J on a STI wheel compared to 7.5J on a WRX) is going to make a difference. If so John, they aren't perfect, but will do the job, and should give no adverse effects.
  24. What did Mr F reckon to the turbo then, can more be had from it, does it have a restrictor, and will you soon have a monthly slot with him.
  25. It's really scary how much money is running about at "clubman" events these days. Even the total of what is in those pics is quite scary. Saying that, the money in cars that go to Knockhill is also absurd.
