a wee corsa raced past me a couple of weeks ago on the 40 between dunfermline and rosyth, luckily I didn't entertain him cos 30m past me he screetched to 40mph in a cloud of smoke having spotted a mobile police camera! It worrys me that I might get a ticket for racing with the corsa, I may have been doing up to 47! (corsa doing at least 60 past me). I bet if I were driving a porsche, I'd have no such worry. Chris.

Hyperflow Top Mount Intercooler Vs Sti 8 Tmic
soundie replied to soundie's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Thanks for that info.. I'll be in touch regarding an Sti8 one for track use. Probably just keep the OEM one on for normal use though, obviously, with a modified undertray. So its interesting that nobody knows of any good reason to buy Hyperflow! -
Hyperflow Top Mount Intercooler Vs Sti 8 Tmic
soundie replied to soundie's topic in Scottish Scoobies
The engine bay won't look standard anyway after what i've got planned Yeah it seems to be all about cost just now, the bling might be nice.. expensive, but nice. the strut brace is a concern, don't want to have to lose that. I guess AWD would do a good job of either installation. Mate, are you the chap who sells the scoops etc? I saw your website a while ago when looking at bigger scoops. Can I just ask something; Ideally, I want to keep the scoop i've got. But if I haaad to change it i'd never get the Sti8 one, but what are the sti7 ones like? from pictures it looks quite similar in design to the one I've got now, just flaired a bit. Another option I thought would be to have the sti8 one handy just for knockhill. Cheers. EDIT: just seen you sell a lot more than just scoops! seen a few pics now of the sti7 ones.. still a bit on the large side. sti8 scoop for track use then. Hi Mark cheers.. yeah i'd be scared of chopping anything, but sure AWD would know what to do! Thought the undertray is best custom with sti8 t/m on classic? -
Hi all, currently looking at my next round for the scooby and need some opinions, specifically on the Hyperflow top mount vs sti 7/8 top mount intercoolers ...I say specifically, just because I don't want a Front mount vs. Top mount discussion - i've read every word there is to read about F/M vs T/M and [stern face] I'm going for top mount [/stern face]. Ok, so its a 99 classic so it just has the stinking wee black wrx intercooler just now, and the upgrade is to support other mods, all pretty focussed on throttle response. I'm not chasing any figures, but to quantify, I don't plan to go past like 370ish. So my question is - hyperflow - what is all the fuss about I know they look (and are) very well made etc but really, do they justify spending 700 quid, compared to circa 150 for an sti8 one I also notice the classic hyperflow tmic's are smaller then the newage hyperflow tmic's. Anyone ever levered a Newage Hyperflow into a classic before? I suppose having the smaller classic one would cause less hassle fashioning an undertray for the bonnet scoop, but I think for that cash I'd like the mahoosive neage one, as a centre peice, if you will. Its going to be AWD Motorsport that fits it all, so installation hassle will only affect me in terms of labour costs. Thanks all!! Chris.

whats a dash dodger? I'm thinking about a cage and one has come up that doesn't require cutting the dash - is that what you mean? The guy sais its not FIA approved, but is fine if not doing competitions etc. Looking at the design it doesn't look like it would be very effective for stiffening since it bolts on the footwells rather than the dash. Cheers, Chris.

I thought this was fair for a whole spraying system, but no, its just the button lordy..

i'v e heard stories of people having to rebuild their straight cut dog boxes quite a lot, but I think the syncros a bit less brittle. Have also heard of a batch of ppg that were jumping out of gear (4th i think) a problem that ppg were well aware of and were solving. (bout 3 months ago) I almost went for a helical syncro box, but went to the 6 speed instead and love it. you need to get matching diffs and therefore new (newer) rear hubs - the rear brembos that came too were a bonus for me! also took the opportunity to do uprate clutch and flywheel, but then, you'd probably do that anyway with a new ppg. cost was abotu 1800 box only, 2.1k with hubs, calipers, diffs + linkages. all in all with my new clutch and flywheel plus labour its more like 2.7k. great option.. the smoother option imo, i've got it with helix autosport c+fh and feels almost standard! could imagine a straight cut ppg with maybe a double plate clutch would feel more like a proper racer. strokes and folks. Cheers, Chris.

Aye, it went well! the curse is broken.

Yep, thats on order and hopefully will be done next week. But as well I think the tyres may be playing a part- They maybe don't have enough sidewall to support the car on hard cornering. They are 215/35/18, and they are very stretched already across peters old newage wheels. Peter, do you remember what width the wheels are? Yeah I don't remember it being half as bad in the dry but I wasn't going as hard or even had the chance to , I still wouldn't have described it as sharp. money wise, new tyres and coilovers are a tad much, (I prefer the bilsteins on edinburgh roads anyway) but can maybe think about new steering and suspension bushes. Def getting a front arb and drop links anyway. (already done the back) oh probably. great pics! Chris.

I was right behind you when you spun, it didn't looks terminal though! what happened? Couldn't believe how slippy that back corner was!! at least it was consistent every time though, I tried a different tactic around it every lap Cheers tfor the gearbox oil dude, I woudn't have been able to go out without it. Nice chatting wi ya. I promise nothing. lol. If I stay on the tarmac all day then I'll never learn the limits! Nae bother peter, -- happy you joined in my celebration of the car-goin-gid. Can you suggest anything for that frightening understeer though?
-
Love the pics there mate, and the of my brake dust! I do like the detail that a decent camera shows. I've got this one as my phone screensaver now! Does anyone have wider shots of the racing? I'd love to see more shots of track jostling, and showing the variety of cars on track. I think most people just keep the long lenses on though.

Cheers! that be mine Some nice pics there, - in one it looks like my rubbers coming off the rims round that hairpin! Great day on track today, first time the cars been up to it and it didn't miss a beat. Only problem to fix now is the ridiculous understeer. Had a couple of wee excursions (well, one bigger excursion;)) across the gravel but held on for dear life and there was no harm done so it was just a good laugh early on in the day I had an epic chase on with a wee red exige for about 7 (or more) laps, . There was really nothing between us I just couldn't get past him... but then maybe he was toying with me, haha. Just gutted my video camera was goosed. roll on next trackday! Cheers, Chris.

yeah thats the thing - we all have this illness to a certain degree. I tell myself I'm happy with my car just now, simply because it frustrates me there's already too much power for our roads. If I had more power I'd definately be in trouble. I'm just concentrating on response and handling. i wonder as well sometimes how much difference it ACtually makes between like 350 and 500, on our roads. be good to find a private road sometime and find out fun too.

was it remapped after changing exhaust?
-
I have been planning to go to this since the last KH, but sadly have missed the tickets now, Doh!. If anyone hears of a spare, I'll take it! Are there many scoobies going? Chris.

I'd love to have the cash just to hand my motor over to SW for him to make it ridiculous. dead jelous for 470 - 490 just get this i reckon

I've just fitted a 4.3kg helix autosport flywheel and I'm very pleased with it. It just makes everything feel much more direct. I heard stories of lumpy idling and stalling, but its really not true.. as far as I can see there's no drawback. Starting in 1st gear you get used to it easliy. I also heard that there would be a noticable loss in inertia when going up hills, but I've noticed nothing bad there either. I've now learned how to "heel and toe" when braking and changing down at the same time, one blip on throttle brings the revs up much faster, whereas with the heavier flywheel a 'blip' wouldn't have been enough to bring the revs up sufficiently. I say go for it.

great chilled day - thanks for organising it all! Nice to meet more folks! My sis was sayin on the way back it was nice to see the scooby community was so friendly and ned-less. 9. Soundie - Classic Jdm WRX grey and yellow, 310, 315, maybe more, definately enough I suppose I'd have to go on a rolling road to find out the exact power, don't really fancy that, after speaking to George haha ... no falkirk wheel in the background, but plenty of scoobies ...
-
MPG is somewhat irrelevant - and I don't mean the old chestnut "If you worry about mpg you've got the wrong car" rubbish, I mean that I've done 360 miles at 60mph on a tank which is 33mpg, and sometimes I do 160 miles to a tank which is 14mpg, so its just a measure of how your drivin and how much fun you've had. you could get similar figures off any wrx OR sti.
-
Hey Tam, Sounds like you should just drive an sti close to the type you want, and see if you think its worth the extra! maybe one of the kind folks at the falkirk meet could oblige you?
