The problem with building an Auto box to cope with the power output is to have firstly a torque converter that is capable of holding under the acceleration. a lock up converter is normally the only way to go. Fluid heat up then becomes a factor and most ATF fluids under heat and extreme pressure will cause foaming. So a good cooler is needed. Now we get to the main unit. the actual Valve body itself will need to be matched to the pump pressure (which would have to be quite strong in order to cope with the TC demands) Then you will need to have a decent set of Clutch bands, and again the pressure valves that actuate them will need to be large enough to both cope with the raised pressure needed for the TC and delivery to the band actuators to ensure drive to the secondary gear sets. lastly, a decent actuator spring will need to be matched. Judging by the amounts of variables in Impreza Engine Outputs, this is all going to have to be a custom one-off system to manage properly. The classic WRX that came with an Auto box was down on power so throwing excess of 200hp through that box will start to see failures and hydrolocking. Now this is not a statement to say IT CANT BE DONE, because i know for a fact that it can, The problem is money, time and recources to make an auto box work. Unless you can retrofit an ALLISON auto box from a Chevrolet pickup!!! that would work! they are indestructable GUARANTEED to 1000bhp and 1200Lbs tourque!

Actually, i was talking about starting the car when cold. then while its idling, remove the oil cap and you will feel the pressure venting from there if its high. Of course it may well lower the guage too. If thats the case then i woulc say you have crank pressure due to a blocked breather.
-
Id check any breathers mate, if its been sitting you never know. With short journeys, condensation builds up in them and they start to clog. They dont normally clear until the engine is really hot, and the gunk melts a bit. But as soon as it cools again, youll end up with a clogged breather and high presure at the crank again. Have you tried starting the car from cold, then undo-ing the oil filler cap or pulling the dipstick? see how much pressure is there, its a quick way to check if the problem is serious,

I agree, but the only thing i will say is that even with fuel prices, and they ARE dropping now, the classics are going to be more sought after because of Taxation. So you may see the prices start to rise. Especially seeing as 5k could buy you an older classic, some mods and see you clear to 300BHP, whereas youd look at 7-10k for a newage, then 400 odd a year for tax.

Judging by the first post on this thread, he likes it up Goats apparently!!

Acid when did you last change the oil? what oil did you put in there? Also is the breather from the crankcase blocked up a bit? When it gets hot it will become more supple and the vent can work properly. Just some suggestions!

Personally speaking, i think you should mod your car however you want, there is so much antisocialistic Nazi laws in this country as it is, and the repressive regime that we live under just gets heightened every day, and when you arent 'allowed' to modify your car to your personal preference thats just communistic and repressive. Added to the fact that we have to abide by laws and regulations that are made by those who dont get penalised by them in the first place, and those laws not only stop us form being individuals and might i add, what harm is it to be individual and modify your car, house, clothes, face or whatever if you dont cause injury harm or loss to others directly or indirectly, but those laws are also paid for by us in taxes, and then policed by people who on one end of the scale love the thought of being powerful enough to totally screw your day, and opress you, to those who work for the system and hate the regulations it imposes. I say lets revolt!

Acid! i owned an RS200 for a year, absolute pig to drive, wasnt as quick as you would expect, but infortunately it was crushed in 1994. engine and drivetrain were removed before the shell went to the crushers! There are still parts of it at Dunstable Breakers if you want any of it!

then the other wire is not needed.

Is that Noel Edmunds in the purple pimp outfit???
-
The old fan has three wires, because the AIRCON speeds the fan up when it switches. It isnt for cooling the water for the engine, its purely to pull enough flow through the RAD and the AIRCON CONDENSER RAD together. Your new fans have only one speed, therefore you may find your aircon wont be as good. When you wire it up, you MUST make sure the wires used are connected to the temp switch in the rad, so the best way is connect the black wire up to your new fans, then unplug the temp sender connector on the bottom of the rad, bridge the wires and find out which one (green or yellow) feeds the fan. The other one will be live when aircon is on. you can attach the green and yellow wires to a two position relay if you want so the fan will come on with Aircon, but to be honest the fans are only going to run at one speed.
