My point is (and i guess my years of doing these turbos probably means nothing!to some!) the only way you can do the turbo seals without touching the up-pipegasket AND the downpipe gasket (which is what he stated) is to do the seals with the turbo still bolted to the car. This is completely possible, i have done this a couple of times, but makes space a little tighter. I complimented kook for doing that as most people deny its possible. other than that i wanted to know how you remove the turbo with the uppipe and downpipe still attached if it wasnt done on the car. But the previous post stated I hadnt read it right. Must go back retake english!

You didnt replace the nut? Did a new one not come in the kit you purchased? where did you get the kit. as all mine from air research or garret come with the nut. when i do the rebuilds i replace that nut, and i always use Loctite 808 high temp locker fluid. Although thinking about it, i dont suppose it really matters about that nut, i just change mine because theres a new one. Im also amazed you did it on the car!! Fair play to you!!! What has pleased me more Kook is that you too are doing a job that MOST would say is far too technical and involved, yet is really a simple job to do!

Yep that works!! i use an automatic center punch and punch two dimples next to each other on the impeller and body on both sides and then they go back together perfectly! Sometimes wonder why Turbo companies charge so much when i know they dont have a balancer!

Did you mark up your impellers to the body, or do you have a balancer? When i rebuild my turbos, i just mark the impellers, that way they go back the same way, and dont need balancing. I am at the moment working on a TD04/TD05 hybrid of my own, just need to work the details out to see what would work.

Monk, tesco 99 and normal unleaded ARE NOT the same, V power claims have been 100ron, but its actually 99 ron fuel. Tescos is 99 ron fuel. Standard Unleaded ranges from 94-95ron, and super plus 97 ron. TBH youll not really notice a whole lot of difference in everyday driving on 97 to 99 ron, the 95 ron will make the car run a bit weaker, but again, off boost and standard driving isnt going to see much problem there. The difference is felt when the car is driven hard, The lower octane fuel cant burn properly and completely so you end up with a hot spot from unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber igniting after the spark. DETONATION in other words. The reason you get it is because as you push harder in the car the air intake temp rises, and along with the pressure of the air intake (turbo and supercharged cars) you loose density and added to a loss of octane you get det, the higher octane fuel burns more completely so you get less det at the same temp and pressure. If youre not boosting hard, and the temps are in normal range, the car will run fine on 95 ron fuel. Also you can just add octane booster or fill up with 99 ron when you hit trackdays. In my car i run 95 ron, having no problems with the knocksensor, no det, and temps all ok, and every third fill up i use tesco 99 ron.

Oh yes i quite agree Play, youre right, even to top people can make a mistake. and if it does turn out to be rings then i promise to wash your car for you!! The reason i cant see it being rings is because of the way the car runs normally, theres only that one band it fouls in. That could also be down to something else, the AFR sensor they have running in that car may be linked to a variator in the ECU, there is no end of possibilities on a car of this spec. I did however go through the pulling plugs and checking the compression, but to be honest, i still believe the best thing is to speak to Prodrive and get them to look at this as well. Just a note, this car is NOT STANDARD, it was a one off Prototype with a lot of Race spec parts homologated for the use on this car.

Ive spoken to him Play and the car is running fine, no det, no advance, just a flat spot. If the oil is getting into the exhaust side, the lambda will not read correctly, and about 3-5k youre pushing some serious gasses past it, coat it in oil and it just hant read properly. There is no way the car has internal problems with the rings! none whatsoever, the car was built by Prodrive, and with the way the car pulls, if the oil was in the combustion chamber from leakdown on the rings, the engine would stutter like hell under ANY accel. and also the idle would be totally crud, the ceramic insulators on the plugs would be fouled BADLY and cause weak spark throughout the rev range. Ill still put money on the turbo leaking oil into the exhaust.
