nope thats the easy one! The STI TMIC will fit on that engine with minimal modifications. Your COIL PACK is NOT in the middle, its on the right hand side. This is a Phase 1.5 engine

Could be either, that was at the change over mate. Easiest way to find out is look at the intake, where is your Coil pack? If its on the right hand side and your AIC is set back then you have phase 2 INLET at least!! if the coil is in the middle of the engine, then its a phase 1.5 if that makes sense!!

I am!! i tried a while back and the whole intercooler needed some major mods with someone with a tig-welder. The unit will fit in nicely, but it hits against the IAC valve and has to be cut back about 10 mm in that area.

You are right with the lag JD but the benefits are better. Early cars are hell to retrofit the newer TMIC so fmic is the way to go. Also TMIC does drag heat from the engine bay and therefore can cause DET to occour earlier.

If the intercooler will fit straight on then its a good investment if you dont want to go for a front mount. Especially if you have the old rubber hose to the IC. WUZ is right, they are HUGE compared to the WRX or std one, and so they will offer better cooling. HOWEVER, IMHO you need to rig some sort of shield up for the left hand side as they draw a lot of heat from the turbo and exhaust side. Its not necessary but a great mod if you can do it. If youre seriously looking at chaing the pump injectors and a remap, and would consider a front mount then dont waste the money on the TMIC, just wait and get a bog front mount.
