Plenty of product options out there, and even the process varies slightly, but I use something along the following : Engine should be cold. Cover e.g. intercooler, alternator, battery and obvious fuse/wire areas (basically anywhere where water shouldn't go). Spray what you want cleaned with a degreaser product like Meguiars Super Degreaser or PS21 (try to avoid the outer bodywork). Gently agitate the more stubborn areas if needed with a soft brush. Leave for 10-15mins. Lightly rinse off (don't full blast pressure wash - water will be forced where shouldn't go) for only as long is required. Remove the coverings and start the car up for a couple of minutes - not too hot just warm to help drying. Dry any sitting water off. Now dress all of the surfaces - Painted surfaces using a spray wax and buff off. Plastics using a trim restorer or a surface dressing (like Aerospace 303). Rubber hoses using a surface dressing (like 303). Hope that at least helps you get under way. Get a before and after pic taken and posted !

Some more information my prize offering on Peter's Santa Cruise charity night list, the winter car detail. The winner will receive the following Winter Detail on their Subaru Impreza, or similar sized car. 1. Outer wheels, tyres and wheel arches cleaned. 2. Thorough safe wash via snow foam & 2 bucket method including shuts, fuel filler area and badges. 3. Bodywork clayed to remove bonded and hidden contaminants (so sealant lasts longer & looks better) 4. Two coats of durable sealant applied to bodywork. Shuts protected. 5. Outer wheels protected. Tyre walls dressed. Exhaust shined. 6. Interior mats, floor and seats given hoover. Interior glass wiped down. Obviously once the winner is known they just get in touch with me to go over specific details regarding the above and to organise leaving the car with me. Think that's it. (prize numbers changed so as not to confuse I removed original number)

...and traded in as what ?! Now would you sit tight lipped or own up ? I'm way too honest, so would say of course !

Is there not a case for having a few items up for an auction section ? Feasible ? The remap I think is a definite auction candidate, apart from the fact only certain folks will find requirement for it so better going to someone who will appreciate winning it (i.e a newage owner).

Not noticed any sudder yet, maybe turned out okay !?? Anyone any more suggestions as to where to get the new seals and pistons from ?? Thanks Tommo for the two options, I'll check them out.
-
You may be modest about it, but I'd be happy to recommend to those that may need car mechancial assistance, Barry could well be your man. Talked me through everything he did, offered advice, and a bit of Scooby chat tabout. Good set up and easy to find location not far off the M74, suited me being localish. I shall return. You can even see his very uncomfortable Scooby

Barry to the rescue. Many many thanks again Barry for helping me out. Relief of it all is that it seems just to be new pistons required. Pads look okay, discs in tact. Seemed okay on the way back but I'll test them out properly later on. It is friendly helpful folk like this that make this site a good one to be on...well most of the time . Thanks for the reply tommo. I'm rubbish at anything mechanical, especially on something as important as anchors, so I'll get them properly fixed up but looks like you were right. I'll have a look at the two option places you noted, if anyone else has others be interested in them also.

What a brilliant day I'm having !!! Set off to work nice and early. Car hasn't moved for a while and thought it could do with a nice longish run. Felt it was kinda, well sluggish, and when coming to a stop felt brakes were sticking. Reached a nice 60 straight with no-one in front or behind so got up to speed and slammed the brakes on/speed/on. As accelerated again the steering wheel began shuddering - oh no. Pulled over in to a lay-by, got out and had a look. Oh sh$t !! Front disc was glowing & smoke coming from the pad, and a bit of a smell too (no wasn't me!). Eh, do you think my caliper is sticking (suspected this for a bit now) ?? Let it cool for a bit then drove back and forward, set off again and seemed bit better, but when next checked the wheel was still very warm so phoned the AA. Informed the AA of the issue - "can't be fixed by roadside need to be loaded home", okay but I have a lowered car with a front lip, "okay, that's good as we needed to know, we'll have a patrolman out to you.....in the next 3 hours "!!!!! Eh, no, I'll push it the 20 miles home in that time. Got back only using the brakes 3 times which kept the temp on the wheel down. So, long story I know, but questions : Chances of the pad being wasted ? Chances of the disc being wasted ? I think the caliper is going to need changed as believe 4pots are nightmare to get moving again without thorough clean up ? Have a Blobeye WRX, if I need to get refurb'ed calipers plus discs/pads am I cheaper going for a whole new brake set up ?? Price/contacts/links appreciated. Boy I could do without this right now !!

Crickey, being put on the spot here ! Okay, not that I feel confident answering this, believe the explantation is that heat wrapping reduces under bonnet temperature and increases the flow of exhaust gases. I also have part of my downpipe heat wrapped, done by Hypertech when they fitted everything for me. Don't think it is overly expensive to get done and not really a mod, more of a beneficial supporting role.

I used a guy called Alan from M.G.Solutions 01416313742/07968497461 based (I think) in Castlemilk. He was recommended to me as the guy that does the tints for Douglas Parks Bentley garage...if he's good enough for their cars he's good enough for my wifes Astra !!

Hmm, I had up-pipe/sports cat down-pipe/fuel pump all fitted at once the day before my remap and was advised to drive off boost till remap completed. By no manner of means an expert but I'd say don't get it done till remap time. Think the engine management light will come on too which is telling you something ! With your up-pipe, consider getting it heat wrapped. Most of the folk I consulted advised this.

Back at the start of the year I had same idea. I admitted up front that all I could really offer was the idea - my daughter was born at the start of the year and I was in line for two hand operations (yes I've had all the hand jokes there is! ) so spare time was not something I had much of. Now of course I've had the two ops but my day-to-day work needs constant attention. If there was something basic required doing I may be able to assist, time dependant at time of asking suppose. Time has moved on but at the time there seemed plenty of folk that liked the idea and a good number of volunteers, even some contacts for you which will hopefully maybe help. Have a read through : http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...amp;hl=calendar As you will see though there was debate as to whether it was going to be single car pics, group car pics, who's cars etc to keep it fair. Perhaps just needs someone like yourself to take charge and just make a decision as to how it's going to be !! . Perhaps even look in to possible photoshoots that have taken place through the year ?? Guess I'll offer my car up as a model if deemed required. A very worthy cause everyone will agree and I'm sure there will be good numbers of people interested in purchasing whether it be because it is for Yorkhill and/or because it is full of Subarus.

I believe the 34 is a tiny bit better than the 35 in that spools tad quicker, and price reflects it. You can either get 2nd hand from someone upgrading or breaking. Think also AWD in Perth had some sort of part exchange, not 100% sure on that though. Also look for low mileage pinks from an upgrade or breaking. Compare prices perhaps before committing as saw one other day that was asking a lot for newish ones. As noted in a previous post, be worthwhile considering changing the up-pipe and to an STi TMIC etc like Ritchie says.
-
Have kinda similar and for me it'd be aiming for the 340bhp mark. Basically loads of STi like parts - Not sure if you have decat up-pipe in ppp pack, if not then that. Bigger turbo (e.g. VF34/VF35/TD05-16G). Uprated spark plugs if not already done (e.g. NGK PFR7B). 550cc injectors (STi pinks basically). STi intercooler. Most of this could be 2nd hand. Have a wee read here : http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/58901.html Think that's about it ?? Oh, with next stage extra power you should also consider better brakes, and why not handling while your at it !

Wasn't in the Scoob. Did keep an eye out for Scoobies though and didn't see any. Arrived at 2pm and left at 4:30pm (ish). Lovely day - lashing rain and howling wind and I was standing out in it !!!
-
Welcome. Not too far from me just down the 74 a little. Get the pics up and if see you around Hamilton will give a wave.
-
You went right past my house then on your wee run ! What a day for crashes /near misses though, people getting caught out fair bit it seems. Was over in Dunoon and the rain was pelting down on route...ferry over okay but on way back a little less stable ! Some traction issue at one point on the M8 ! Dare I even say I think the pothole are not quite as bad these days....they just need to work on the drainage as I think there's more huge puddles about ??
-
Nice Nice Barry. That engine bay looks a little "plain" for you doesn't it, needs a splash of colour me thinks !!
-
Can't help you out Ritchie, but I am very interested in your outcome. Same gripes as yourself with price/clock/alarm LED. Never really looked in to it so be good of you kept us informed if you get a good solution and buy.
-
Yeah, my wife goes on quite often about wee ejits trying to race her whenever she took my car ! I only occasionally get it and rarely entertain it nowadays - well maybe ! Really really don't get it when they do it in a 30 !!!
-
Welcome.
-
Might depend on how deep/bad the scratch is. Is it right through and beyond wet sanding and/or machining ? If not guess reverts back to your original question - you're looking for someone who has a contact for someone they have used and been happy with their work ! I've heard good stories (like MikeM's experience) of people using e.g. Chips Away......but I've also heard of bad experiences where people say they still obviously still notice it. Personally I've just had resprayed but that was a rear bumper and not as costly.
-
Lookin good - both changes. So they're still doing that group buy on SNet, I got mine from there also but that was months ago! Did it fit straight on or did you have to play a bit with the size of the screw holes (should I ask Stewartyboy ), I almost burst it I think when I changed mine around, but think made for a neater/tighter fit especially at the front middle where the shape changes. Ah, the good old mods list....that'll just be a "for now" list !! I'm with oobster, like the detango look.

Looking For Some Advie For Buying A Classic Sti
C_WRX replied to delcbr's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Coming on here is a good start. You'll see other posts where folk have asked others opinions on possible purchases. Who knows what'll be at the meet. Folk add their names to the list but doesn't always help you with what they drive, perhaps sending a note to badbaz or a meet regular and they may be able to assist with that. I may be corrected here but it seems at the moment people are hanging on to their own good examples for longer, not that none come on the market, it is more of a case of perhaps being prepared to travel to get the right one. old age model = "classic" ! -

First off, welcome. Next Lanarkshire meet is 22 October, think it's bowling for this one given the darks nights are here.... http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...p;#entry1311382 I'm just down the M74 a little, but I'm a newage driver so not much point perusing mine. I'm often in Hamilton so when you get your new car post up pics and I'll keep an eye out for it for a wave.
