I'm with Elephant at the moment but was thinking of changing at next renewal (feb I think) I tried Keith Michaels at last renewal but they woulnd';t insure me on standard WRX Do they need yu to own the car for a year first? Other main company I was gonna call was Subaru-insured, who are also reported to be good pricewise, dunno how they respond to mods though. My brother changed from Admiral (My01 WRX) to Subaru Insured (RB320) and saved £100!! Impressive!

Yeah pretty sure it's clear coated. Understand what your saying. Getting a perfect match after 6 years is never gonna happen realistically. Just the newly painted parts take on a slightly pinky sort of colour.. almost as though they have been sitting out in the sun for 6 years. On my 2nd attempt at the moment taking plenty of time to rub down the paint. getting a darker finish on the paint so far. I'll see what happens once I get the final coat put on and clear coated... Thanks for the advice...

Yeah. It's 2 pack paint. goes on well (when the warm dry weather is around). Managed to get the parts looking really shiny after the clear coat but the colour is off compared to teh rest of the car. It's a common problem whereby plasic parts like bumpers dont quite match the same colour depth as the metal body panels. Can notice it on scoops of scoobies which have dark colours. In certain light levels the scoop looks a paler colour than the bonnet. Almost like it's faded with the sun but infact it's because of the different material. Normally I would accept this at face value but the standard rear spoiler that's on the car somhow matches the rest of the body brilliantly. Obviously a proper paint shop oven would help. [^o)] Was thinking maybe some sort of additive was required to get a solid match on plastic panels. Maybe not. Used plastic primer but not red admittedly... Oh well.. Interesting learning curve all the same [] P.s. Sorry for hi-jackign the thread a little...

Hi James, Sounds like you've done the od but of spraying in your time.. Have you got any tips as to what to do about the slight colour differences when spraying metals and plastics (i.e a bonnet scoop) Plastics often come out a slightly different colour usually lighter. Which is noticeable in certain light levels. [:'(] I'm curious as I'm in the process of painting a couple of body parts for my red bugeye (silver would be much easier). Just need to wait for good weather to return [8-)][um]

Last tank lasted me until 280 miles and that was with a speedy run with a couple of guys on here a few weeks back! WoOT! I'm generally quite sensible on the road [A] Usually I get around 260 miles before the light comes on. Fill up about 15-20 miles after that. emptying the tank I'd probably get 300 Max I ever got was 330 miles. That was on a long steady(ish) run from Elgin up to Rogie and back again.. Having said that I managed to get down to Southampton on just 1+3/4 tanks! couple of months ago.. And yeah It is bloomin difficult to drive below the boost threshold []

WoOT! I'll close the door quietly on the way out [A] P.s. Just did a little Googling to get the final answer.. Learnt something new at the same time. []

A1 - Fuji Heavy Industries A2 - 6 (got flag pinned on my wall) A3 - Pleiades A4 - 3 (but I would not have known this if it wasn't for the answers above.) A5 - Legacy (must be...) A6 - Leone (I think... I know the Impreza replaced it.) A7 - Ohta? (original Subaru factory.. Probably wrong..) A8 - L555 BAT A9 - International Motors (again didn't know this assuming answer above is correct) A10- 1992

Ahhh geez.. This isn't good.. I'm starting to see a future where the Subaru Impreza will be banned from existense. Not because of the My08, but because they will become un-insurable because of car-jacking and theft and being branded as a killing machine for inexperienced drivers. I totally agree with he other post where it was suggested drivers should have to build up their licence and skills to drive more powerful cars. I dont mean to offend any young drivers here but I do feel the sooner all insurance companies stop insurance powerful cars for under 25's the better. Or at least the Driving Standards Agency comes up with a way to add a secondary licence level which will somehow proove that a driver is competent of driving such a vehicle. I deliberately did an Advanced Driving Course before buying and Impreza for that exact reason. I wanted to dicipline my own driving before getting behind the wheel of a performance car. And I'm very happy that I made that decision. It's all too tempting just to squeeze that right foot and forget about whats round the next corner.

Dunno his name but yeah probably only met him a couple of times.. See his dad out at all hours in the tractor thingy.. I'm just at the end of the long straight. . o O (Good for doing on-road power runs []) Bloke across the road (and across the field) has a DB7 Vantage *drool* Not sure about the bugeye, but there's I think (if I remember correctly) it's an N-reg Classic Import in Garmouth, Guy is a new bus driver for stagecoach in Elgin. used to Drive an electric orange Focus ST until a few weeks ago.. Not met him in person... yet... He flew past me last week, must have been late for work..[] While were on the subject ther's also a Yellow Classic Sport and another white classic from Garmouth/kingston area. Havent tracked them down yet.. Also a Bright yellow Skyline with tinted windows on front half of car [8o|]

Probably... Thought I recognised the plate but wasn't sure.. First time I'd seen it parked up there.. I'm just at the next house along [] Was startin to think one of the loons had bought a scooby []

Heard about this, this morning on the radio.. Nae good like.. Fortunately no one killed.. Must be something in the air, 4 separate accidents across the north between last night and this morning. I think 2 killed in total. I hope the injured recover quickly. Anyone know the Impreza involved here? The solid white centre lines on the BBC photo doesn't give me much confidence... [:S]

Anyone on here own this car or know who's got it? Spotted parked up at the farm at Muir of Lochs (Road between Lhanbryde and Garmouth) at 5:10pm today. Saw it at a distance, looked like a WRX bugeye with standard exhaust. Dunno if it lives there now or it was someone visiting..

Yeah that was the doo a few weeks back I was thinking about. Used to work with Ronnie Ross who organised that V-Dub Club event so will give him a shout, chances are they'll come along to such an event too. Liability and insurance, I guess along as there was some disclosure saying the organisers are not responsible for any personal damage e.t.c. Interestingly how was this dealt with for the Alford event? Were the drivers informed of their responsibility if it all went pear shaped? I know I know.. shame on me.[:$] But the idea is still riding on the successful wave of the Alford event. Hope no one minds.[A] Good point about the skid car, could even get them roped into showing off their stuff and letting people have a go at discounted price(s) Hmnn... This could quite easily grow into a large event.. Need to decide when to stop.. I've also been asked by my local Advanced Motorists group to become their point of contact for Young Drivers, so maybe see if the IAM group wants to make an appearance at the event too.. Plenty of potential drivers looking to enhance their on-road driving skills. Go along and have a chat and see what the IAM is all about. Although they may not be the local group for you, each group follows the same training methods.. I'll hold off contacting the 63carcub until next week as they'll be far too busy with the Speyside-Stages Rally this week..

Yeah that'd be the one! That road was a bit slippy the other day though [] I HAVE A DREAM!! Well sort off. I've always said for years that If I ended up with access to load of money I'd buy that land and build a proper racing circuit to give Scotland it's second national circuit! And even better something for us drivers in northern scotland to play on as knockhill is a fair trip away [] Might also help stop younger drivers making fools of themselves on the local roads here by giving them a safe area to play... I know a guy who held a small event there a couple of weeks ago in order to raise money for Raigmore Hospital in inverness. Bit of a car fun day with show n' shine stuff. I'll get in touch with him and see how he organised it and find out what it would take to hold a good event there with access to the airfield.

Slightly off topic (ish) Was speaking to Cullenmin at the event regarding meets up the highland area and we both seemed excited about the vague idea of holding an alford/track style event up our way. Basically there are plenty abandoned airfields aroung Elgin which could be used if we can line out a track with cones/ bails e.t.c. Yeah I know sounds like a lot of work. Any of the guys who do the sprints will no doubt remember the events that took place at Milton Airfield just outside Lossiemouth. The local 63CarClub used to use the airfield quite a lot. However last year it was rumoured the land was being solf off by the MOD. No idea what happened there but I beleive the area is still usable (No idea who to contact). http://www.multimap.com/maps/#t=l&map=...,-3.22902|15|32 Basically wide open space to mark out our own track, LOTS of space for runoffs (think topgear test track []) , central for north Scotland (bit far for others). Interestingly the area is marginally bigger than knockhill! And it's just 2 miles from my house [] However same problems would occur, lack of volunteers to help out organise things, We'd all need to pitch in and help somehow.. If this is something which interests people, I could maybe start making enquiries about how to get access to the airfield for a day for an event... Joint events do seem like a good idea!! Also after seeing how the SIDC run events like this for the first time (well organised IMHO) I will probably help out a bit next time if required []

Sadly there's a bit of a background to that.. For one, that was the first corner. If that's not bad enough he'd just won the prize for best modified car (from what I heard) he just went out on track for a quick spin. (excuse the bad tasted pun ) The rest of my photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/scouk.net/SIDCAlford07 Fogot about picasa thanks scoobyu for reminding me []

Good event guys! Well organised! Some good track action too!! Shame about the rain but it was forecast to be much worse! Some piccies (Have gots loads more but will upload them when I get the time): Flying the flag for Scottish Scoobies... Our very own SIDC stage (Glorified Umbrella) RB320 *drool* The Collection of spit..... and polish [] . o O (oooH! shiny!!) Some alternatives which turned up on the day: That's the way! Get the petrol flowing in their vains as early as possible [] One satisfied Customer! Our very own G.Mac's slippery moment!.. The bill for repairing the grass is in the post![:$] Ouch!! That's all folks! Will have more uploaded to my own site once I get them sorted out/resized e.t.c....

Good work John and everyone else who helped organise this! Weather wont be that bad (If anyone was at the speyside-stages rally last year you'll know what I mean) Sadly I havent been able to get my splitter/side-skirt/rear spoiler fitted for the event [:'(] So it'll just have to do with a wash! and then another on the way to alford in the rain [um] C'ya Y'all tomorrow!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again! *DRIBBLE* Strangely enough I always thought you'd be living out in the country with vehicles like that! I know there was a WR1 that lives/lived up at silvercrest..

Eh!! This is geting a bit of a joke! Your right you if you were racing the race would of lasted all of 4.9 seconds or whatever [] Ok, let's say "in theory" you were racing. (which you weren't) Why did they rob your car of all possessions and WHY did they leave you there!!!! That's bollox and we all know it. Hopefully the police should realise this too and it's all a formality due to following up the report form the passengers. ... They maybe `felt` they were racing YOU! but it wasn't a race. We all get the saxos flying around us looking for a race but it usually only ends in two ways. they get bored because you dont give them a race and they fly off in the distance with big egos, Or you give it one and the race ends with you in the distance in a very short space of time. To end the way that's happened here is beyond belief! I'm sorry I just can't understand the mentality of some people. Fair enough you may be having a really REALLY bad day and say run your worst enemy off the road and leave them lying there. That's extreme!! This is more like kids out for a kick because they have nothign better to do. hell! Dont be surprised if a mobile video clip of all this turns out on youTube or Bebo in the near future from the point of view of one of the saxo passengers! Really wouldn't surprise me these days. Geez!! (ok rant over....)
-
That looks very sore!!! just out of interest, what sort of speed would you say they T-boned you at in order to fling you off the road and cause that sort of damage! Was expecting maybe a bent wheel and a few bent panels with hitting something solid but that looks really nasty! Not a straight line in sight!! Makes me cringe looking at those images... Really hope they catch the guys responsible and hang them out to dry (or let let sleep with the fishies)
-
nice one! Glad to see they trusted you to get it changed instead of just lumping you with a on the spot fine..[Y]

Spot/Fog lights is pretyt common these days. More and more drivers have them on all the time not just chavs and police dont seem to like it. Just as a matter of interest what was the issue with teh number plate? I recently bought myself a Road Angel Compact but haven't really been anywhere to test it yet. Liked the idea of a digital speedo more than anything. On the detection issue I believe the government are trying to put through a law by the end of the year that makes the laser detectors illegal for use anyway. Radar detectors (older speed gun system not used much these days) have been illegal for a few years now IIRC. But all these new Road Angels with laser detectors built in will probably have their sensors disabled if you update them in the near future in order to abide by the law. Seems a bit odd as I reckon 95% of times your caught before the detector alerts you or maybe doesn't even alert you at all. Idealy need a sensor next to the number plate but again it'd only really serve to show you you've been caught rather than help you avoid detection. FYI - GPS detection will still be legal (for the time being) so fixed cameras and possible mobile locations are ok just the real-time mobile detection will probably be illegal soon. Of course the best action is just to keep your speed down . o O (Flame suit at the ready [][][][])
