Maybe Mark isn't jealous... But I certainly am.. Well Done! Hope you get used to the power of your new beast soon! Any future plans? (just thought i'd ask......)

I'm still surprised at the results. Don't get me wrong it's not disbelief. A WRX PPP will just out do a std STi (which is what I'm aiming for at the moment on the bugeye) But that AndyF is a seriously talented guy and clearly knows what he's doing! That's a whopping jump in performance for what is not far off a standard car! To think that's with a safety margin built into the map so it wont meltdown everytime you squeeze the loud pedal. Very Impressed! BTW - Forget STi beating performance that beats STi PPP!. You have a machine there that will outperform an RB320 in a straight line! Phookin ell! Stick some decent shocks and springs on it and that's a very serious WRX!!! My next car is definitely a hawkeye!!! (a black one)
-
That's ridiculous!!! What changes were made to the car to get those results?
-
Well if it interests you click on it! Clearly the person/company that setup the ad on google put in a scooby related keyword and therefore presented itself on our very clean site. *coughs* It shouldn't really be allowed as it's not relevant to the content of the site. It can be disabled by admin but it may interest someone.... Edited to add: ^^^ Of course STi Duh! forgot about that...

Welcome to the SIDC BigPapaT ! Heh add me to the ex-Volvo club! moved from a 94 Volvo 440 1.8 up to the WRX. Will have first main service for the car after the new year. Gonna change the oil myself in the next couple of weeks hopefully.. Long overdue! Fortunately the massive 50k service was done just before I picked up the car nearly a year ago. Sorry not a very constructive reply.. shame on me...

yep.. they are meant to represent teh star cluster known as Pleiades http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleiades_(star_cluster)

Quite agree. Last renewal I had with elephant.co.uk they quoted me somethign liek £800 at renewal, although they forgot to send me out a letter of renewal until I asked for one 2 days before insurance ran out. Went and did an on-line quote on their website and got a quote of £750, £50 cheaper than the renewal for the same details!. Phoned them up, during the day to get UK call center, and whinged. Ended up getting it for £720 over the phone! So much for onlien discounts, and dont trust the renewal quote event fromteh same company! Looking to change companies this this year..
-
heh true! Quite like that idea. Good in conjunction with a big turbo so the engine has natural torque low down the revs then a nice fat turbo for the higher end. Not sure the insurance company would like that mod though.. besides. teh roads around here already have holes in them withoout 400+bhp tearing them up geez! that sounds pretty impressive! What's that "Zero Sports cool thermo"? not heard of that before. A decatted up-pipe is on the cards for the future, possibly before fuel-pumps and stuff. Earlier spool up on the turbo would be nice. Not sure whether or not I'll get a sports cat for the downpipe or just leave the standard one in. Looks like your getting good performance for the mods!
-
Thanks for that mate. Just what I wanted to hear. Longer term I'm maybe like to hit 300bhp simply because thats what the WRC cars are mapped to.. Getting 300-320 woudl be a bonus STi PPP performance. But that's another phase altogether. Immediate plans were just to basically install PPP without paying the £1600 for the upgrade. Especially on a 6 year old car. So far I've spent around £300 of the individual PPP parts Intercooler hose, Prodrive backbox, 3rd cat delete & tactrix cable which allowed me to plug in the laptop to the ECU and use free software to remap the car. Can also use it to read error codes and stuff which was the original reason for buying the cable. Note I dont claim to be an expert tuner. I'm more of a computer geek sort of thing that loved to fiddle with code and TBH with my love for the car this was just up my street. I notice AndyF has a paragraph on his site regarding such people and what he says is quite right, just a little too dodgy. The AndyF's of the world at the true gurus of the remapping industry I have total respect for what he can achieve, and reliable!. So I spent months learning about the ECU and what the values on the maps "really" do for the car. I still have a lot to learn but it's good fun, hopefully the car wont blow up.. it shouldn't because the current map I'm running is very close to teh PPP one from what I can tell and it's been trouble free for a couple months now. Just not hitting the target boost. It's a fun project but certainly not for the faint hearted! In proper Brainiac style - "Dont try this at home!" Ok at the end of it I wont have an official PPP car but I will have the components and the performance (maybe a little more if I decide to tweak the map a bit later on). I'll be happy with 260-265bhp at the end of this really looking for the added drivability (which I already have) and the added boost for accelleration Once I get it all finsihed and I'm happy I no doubt write a full report on it all for those interested.. Obviously there are more optimal mods which can be done for performance but I just feel the PPP is a good place to start!

LOL! me too... Actually add rear drop links to my list above.. forgot about those..

Thing is... In the EU market it quite possibly is a nice looking car! It's just NOT worthy of the Impreza name that we've come to love so much.. Call it the new Vauxhall Contact Lens or something and it'd probably get a better reputation (although the VXR's are much better looking..) Take a few front end photos of impreza's through he years ans show them to a 12 year old They will easily point out an Impreza. Put a photos of this infront of them and they say boring!!! Time will tell on teh 08 model. I still dont like it, but I may change my mind (I love the hawkeye and always have done) But I really hope SWRT can make the 08 work!!

Thanks Cal, What you say makes sense so give yourself a pat on the back. The 1.2bar is probably what I'd like to hit. The "target" boost that I have is 18.72 (1.3bar I believe this is what teh PPP maps are set to). But i've cut that down to 17.17psi (1.2bar) for the moment until I can hit that target first. Infact that's pretty much what you said above so hopefully we're both giving good advice.. For Reference 1 bar = 14.5psi or thereabouts. At the moment I'm getting a good solid 1 bar on the car which is noticeable over standard. I've posted elsewhere on the forums and the best step forward is to tighten up the wastegate arm on the TD04 turbo to keep the wastegate closed longer to build up boost. The standard spring setting is a bit loose apparently.. Every step where i make changes I closely monitor the ECU for problems and so far I get no indication of detenation as you say. Boost tails off at higher rpm as it should and runs richer fuel higher up just to keep things safe..
-
That's a good point actually.. I tend to agree with you there (for the moment) I mean it's just too ummm fat! (Too many scooby snacks?) How about Elvis! (flame suit at the ready)

I'm sure this has been asked before but it's something that's been bugging me for years. What makes a Subaru Impreza worthy of the nickname "Scooby"? Just being a subaru? (SU-Ba-Roo >> Scoo -biee -doo >> scooby) Just Being a Subaru Impeza? Being an Impreza with a Turbo? Being a non-standard Impreza (even just cosmetic)? Driving it like it should be rather than doddling around the countryside (like me) What do you think?

How it appeared the day after I got it (Nov 06) White side indicators and tinted windows front and rear (hmnn...) And how it looks today: Stuff added. Decals/Vinyls, sunstrip. (Had to remove front tints as requested by local friendly officer) Mud flaps from RallyFlapz, stuck lettering on myself. Pink Pilates badge on front grill Winglets between grill and headlights (bugeye REALLY needs this IMHO) Silver mesh stuff on front grills (For protection against stones more than anything) Fog Light covers... With WRX logo Painted Brake calipers red (needs finished off actually) And of course SIDC sticker Under the skin: see my signature - Nearly full PPP (Just need to tweak wastegate arm to get more boost) Also front & rear strut braces. Home made intercooler splitter (as if it makes a difference but sounds good in theory) changed bulbs behind the dash to give red dials (Would rather have a proper 03 WRX dash though with center rev-counter) Ummm I think that's about it.. How I hope it will look soon after I get the bits painted (need better weather for that): ^^^ photoshoped image ^^^ Prodrive/UK300 wing (thanks to SmilerAS) and sideskirts (thanks to Irish Al) Also got HTAutos front splitter, Not sure if it's going on though.. ^^^ Splitter is a maybe..... Also a decent spit and polish goes a LONG way!!! oooHHH shiny!! Geez! it's not until you write all this stuff down that you realise how much money has been spent!! EEP!

[i've also posted this in Strictly Technical but posting here as well incase anyone local knows] Anyone know how much boost you get from a WRX PPP? Using EcuTek rather than Gems daughterboard (or both if someone knows in the interests of comparison) Reason I ask is that you may or may not know I'm trying to build my own PPP for my bugeye using 2nd hand bits from SIDC members and eBay. Got everything I need but I'm stuck on just over standard boost around 14-15psi (standard i was aroudn 13psi.) I'm looking into adjusting the wastegate actuator arm if I can ever get the turbo heatsheild off. In order to get the extra boost. I've had the chance to see a blobeye WRX PPP ECU map and the target boost levels are around 17psi but peak at 18psi. Sounds impressive and from what I can tell is just within safe tolerence of the TD04 turbo. However I recently read a comment on the net somewhere (which I could remember where) that anything over 14psi is a BAD idea using standard fuel-pump / injectors. Which kinda makes sense. But surely its doable if the PPP boost map is targeting 17-18psi and the PPP does NOT replace fuel-pump & injectors. Just looking for a 2nd opinion on all this... Obviously a future plan would be to upgrade the fuelpump and injectors but is that really necessary for PPP? Thanks
-
Damn!!! Just filled up in Elgin at 104.9p Ahh well.. another excuse to got for a run at the weekend . o O (And yes I do realise that not going for a run would result in less cost overall, but that's not why we're here now is it!)

If I coudl get the blackjax system fitted locally I would.. My brother had it fitted to his bugeye WRX as part of a clifford concept alarm. Now he's upgraded to an RB320 he got the blackjax system installed again. He swears by it. given thh choise between tracker or blackjax he's gone for blackjax. Ok. I totally agree with the comments above that keeping an open eye is important and is quite possibly the best defence. However! There have been recent reports on this very forum from members who have had attempted car-jackings in the central belt!! So I would say it is an increasing risk! Also it's not really a "new" system it's been aroudn for several years now. What you really need to be aware of is that after it's armed you MUST re-arm it every time a door is opened otherwise 30seconds later the car cuts power and sounds te alarm.. Quite embarassing. Bad if you are a taxi where peopel are comign in and out of the car all the time. E.g. if you drop someone off or pick them up remember you'll need to re-arm the sytem after they the door closes. Also make sure all doors are closed then key the pin code. There are loads of scenarios but the main one is this. Stopped on traffic/junction. You get blocked in, big guy get's out of a car and aproaches you with a baseball bat or worse.. a gun! What do you do? Try and make a run for it? How far will you get. How about put up a fight and beat te crap out of them? What the blackjax system allows you to do is get out of the car and let them take the vehicle! They jump in and drive off. mile or so down the road the blackjax recognises the door opened and closed without the system being disabled. at which point the car shuts down safetly and sounds teh alarm. The car attracts attention to itself and teh hi-jacker is stuck and has to bail-out! Now you just follow the sound of the alarm get in disable the system and drive off easy. Ok it's not as simple as that. They may still chase after you... They may vandalise the car is anger.. They may even lie in wait while you get back to your car and force you to drive or somethign scary. Other option is just to call police and let them meet you at the cars location. In most cases the car-jacker will be soo freaked out thei'll just run.. Well that's the theory anyway... Sadly Insurance companies don't seem to recognise blackjax properly and give discount.. Yet the penetratable tracker system is recognised.. *sigh* Just wanted to add that just because the doors are locked doesn't mean someone wont try and break the drivers window to drag you out of the car! Also a good idea to get some armourguard security film. It's like window tint film but transparent and very firm so if someone tried to break the window thei'll have a hard time.. Glass will shatter but the film keeps it all in place. Planning on getting some of this fitted since I was forced to remove my window tints...

I hate to say it.. But I do actually quite like that!.... No really! I do... Might look awful in real live but that's really quite smart! I should hate it because it's so wrong, but for some daft reason its works! IMHO

Scottish Scoobies Ownership Poll - Newage and Classics

List updated and auto numbered once again. How to update the list: - Click reply button as normal on last post with list in it - Delete the first line (starts with [ quote ]- Delete the last line ( something like[ /quote ] << Delete this from the bottom) - Find your position in the list either newage or classic then by year/type create a new line in the ist and type [*]<your username> <MY##> <Model> But put in your actual username MY## year of manufacture and Model e.g. ScoUK MY01 WRX. Don't worry about the numbering, putting [*] at the beginning of the line will automatically sort out the numbering on the list Hope that makes some sort of sense... If it makes no sense at all just add a small reply saying "please add me" and someone will come along and tidy it up.. But please dont get lazy, try and update the list properly and keep things neat NEWAGE . . .No. Name YEAR MODEL Double Zero MY01 WRX Mrs Jc scoob MY01 WRX Keap_scooby MY01 WRX Scooby Doom MY01 WRX Aberscoob MY01 WRX ScoUK MY01 WRX Dietbruboy MY01 WRX Sheep MY01 WRX Seevers MY01 WRX ANDYJSG MY01 WRX Nitchiec MY01 WRX UK300 Big P UK300 MY01 WRX UK300 ScubaRoo MY02 WRX steve_nairn_sti MY02 WRX Cal MY02 WRX moto MY02 WRX Rhindpiece MY02 WRX 360ste MY02 STI mjci7nt2 MY02 STI Kev 580 MY02 STI Type UK GaryD & lesley MY02 STI Type UK hammy MY02 STI Type UK SG MY02 STI Type UK Dave (Helium) MY02 STI Type UK Scooby-Girl MY02 STI Type UK Westtra MY02 STI Type UK KINGHORN MY02 STI Type UK Reidzer44 MY02 STI Type UK Spikkey MY02 STI Type UK CYP_rock MY02 STI Type UK Prodrive rallye 6 MY03 WRX Stu_B MY03 WRX Irish Al MY03 WRX oobster MY03 WRX bigbadboab MY03 WRX DrewG MY03 WRX mctwistuk MY03 WRX ScOObarOO MY03 STI Type UK Dean MY03 STI Type UK MR Orkney MY03 STI Type UK Scootmuldoon MY03 STi Type UK STi_Bandit MY04 STI Type UK Fai 17 MY04 STI Type UK Scoobymark MY04 STI Type UK scoobyiain MY04 STI TYPE UK scoob fae ork MY04 STI TYPE UK Pav MY04 WR1 #472 . these new forums are nicer IMHO. Ok it was a fiddle to get logged in initially but that was expected. and we were notified of it. Some people may not like the smaller font size but I dont mind that.. Only problem I have is that avatar of Ac!D scares the be-jesus out of me!
