Lol! dont think it's all that extreme.. They want quiet wispering cars on our roads. Same with motorbikes. But in the same way nearly every bike enthusuast will have an illecal tailpipe. Also look at something like a harley. They will never be legal yet they are here. Police can simply decide whether to pull let or let them be.. I guess fairness at the time comes into it.. Which is kinda why I try not to draw attention to myself when driving around (in a bright red Impreza ) Besides I hold a grudge after they hammered me for the tinted windows which were on the car when I got it! (nother story) the 100db rule is pretty loud though.. Is that tested at idle or higher rpm?

Figures Used to have a flat just round the corner from them on charlotte street Spotted my first 22b parked outside that place! Next closest place to get it installed is dundee Will probably get one installed next year sometime I think.. Before these feggers start moving north.

This is what's really annoying me about this method of detection. Ok yeah young loons are going around with fat drainpipes on the back of their corsas trying to soudn like a scooby.. fine get them.. But the impreza needs the larger exhaust because it's a performance car! ok fine dont have a 5" backbox.. But in terms of the Prodrive exhaust. Which I believe will be too loud! THis is not a good sign. Not only as you say is it a standard option but.. For a while subaru were selling the Impreza with free PPP installed. Basically the prodrive exhaust came as standard! So what the police will be saying is that your standard car which may never have been modified is illegal! I've just got the PPP on my car and I'll be well peed off if theres a problem with it! I'd accept if I had a rediculous aftermarket exhaust.. Anyone fancy suing subaru? (& not just for hte styling of the new MY08 ) And before you say oh but the PPP was still an "option" even though it's free. Well the Sti is an "option" over a WRX which is an "option" over a Sport e.t.c. a PPP version is simply another model of the impreza IMHO!

Just got a quote from Checkpoint in Aberdeen for £225 to install a BlackJax5 system to the car.. Incase anyone's interested! Heh.. Group buy anyone
-
Dammit!! This sucks! Looks like were in into scooby stealing season agaiN!! Grrr! Feel for ya mate! Must feel awful.. no much worse than that.. Keep your primary keys on you at all times and your spares hidden deep away! Seems easier for them just to break into the house and nick the keys off the kitchen table these days! Time to start getting quotes for blackjax system installations again

Nice!!

Cool thanks! That makes sense.. More accurate.. So are they easy enough to install? or does the ECU need to be refangled to adjust to the wider voltage range? LOL! If I'm to give my own opinion (which I will whether you want it or not ) I'd say get used to the power and handling of the impreza first and decide from there what you'd like to do to it. THe impreza will be a different animal to a Golf Turbo.. Dunno how much oomph mine has on paper these days but I removed one of the cats from the exhaust, put on free-er flowing backbox, replace couple cheapo plastic hoses under the bonnet with strnger silicone ones. Then finally remaped it along with tweaking the wastegate ont eh turbo to allow for extra boost. All changes beign monitored on the ECU makins sure all is well.. Result is a MUCH more drivable car, smoother, more responsive and buckets more boost! Up from 0.9bar to 1.27bar and boy it make a difference.. YOu dont want your hands too far away from the gearstick when going up through the gears!! Modding away at the impreza is seriously addictive (as I've foudn out.. I remember saying in Jan this year I had no intentions of tweaking) but a remap should be through of.. Even de-cattign the exhaust can do long term damage as the engine is breathing differently to what it was origonally meant to at the factory and would also throw up ECU warnings on the dash which arent nice to look at. No disrespect to the guy at glenburgie but if your serious about getting more boost I'd give AndyF a call for a chat about what you want from the car and take it from there..

Although just to comfirm what is a wideband? I've been tryign to find out for ages but never foudn a true answer. I believe it's just a gauge reporting the Air to Fuel Ratio (AFR). If that's the case is a 3rd party sideband preferred over the ECU's AFR data? Is that because the ECU AFR results are inaccurate/dont update quickly enough? Just curious. I "tweak" my own bugeye but before I can refine the map it's been recommended that I install a wideband. Which strangely I cant seem to get a sensible answer as to what it is. And just to add my 2 pence. I've met the guy at glenburgie a couple of times classics are definately more his thing than the new age! But I take it he does plug in some sort of ECU monitoring if he's playign with boost values rather than just a Plug'n'play then BooM! method... Pushing the boost up has an effect on nearly all aspects of the ECU management and if it's not balanced properly things get nasty...

http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/ OOh!! glossy new website too

If I hadn't seen the look of it (especially the rear end) I'd be VERY excited! I like the front of it, particualrly that new scoop! just not from any other angle But yeah, sounds like it's goign to be a clear king of the kill on the B-Roads once again! Let's hope it starts winnign WRC events again and subaru/prodrive gives it a nice butt in 2009!!

And another welcome from me! I'm sure I've seen that rapidfit mondeo kicking about a couple of times Geez the Moray folk really are starting to come out of the woodwork.! The meet will probably start off in Elgin then head out nairn way to pick up the inverness lot (that'd be scooby222 at the moment). Even if you just wanna quickly meet up in Elgin and meet us lot and not bother going on a for a wee run I'm sure no one you hold it against ya

Shot in the dark.. Someone mentioned to me the other week that there is a Ford Focus up in Inverness somewhere which has had it's mechanical guts stripped out and replaced with a 4wd system from an impreza. Mainly because it was lighter than designing a 4wd system for the focus.. Sadly I dont have any more details on it than that. It "may" have been up for sale recently.. Anyone heard of this? got any info?

Yeah.. THe first photoshop of the STi lights was poor (mainyl because it was a darker image) and looked awful.. But the one directly above works. Wont change the look of the car much but would look more agressive at night and more technical in the day. Oh and of course de-tangoed.. I'll maybe try photoshop some morettes on it seing as I've put together just abotu every other option... Funnily enough, no one mentioned the Prodrive headlights It's still early design stage at the moment.. Just seeing what could be done and then decide whether it's worth doing... I think it's fair to say the eye-lids are out Edited: added new photo! (This is the last one... Honest! ) Morettes: (& this just confuses things a little, & changed my view on morettes *sigh*) Yeah It'd probably be the PFF7 style I'd go for, or at least The copycat innovit redlines. but no idea on what colour would go best. Someone suggested gold wheels when I got the car but I dunno, thought it may make the car look rusty I was thinking gunmetal or silver. And before anyone asks I'd probably keep hold of the stadard wheels and find a chunky winter tread to put on them.. Wheels aint exaclty cheap though so that'd maybe make it to next years budget
-
Yeah, that's exacly the impression I got when the side skirts went on. Made the wheels look small and the tyres high.. Maybe next year for the summer Edited to add yet another STi image, this one had better light levels and is more realistic:
-
Hmmm ok... found a reasonably suitable doner STi image (would prefer higher res one though..) STi: (a.k.a. The Borg!) Scroll down a couple posts for a better STi image WRX: I'm starting to feel the standard WRX lights look best now.. Maybe it's just different... More thought required methinks..

LOL! Yeah I think if more people in the UK had them they would be more accepted. Seems to bring the line of the bonnet down so it makes it close to a horizontal line across the front (similar to the line on a classic) My concern with the c.tastic impressions is that the front already has a handful of changes and the eye-lids may be a step too far. Also I kinda like the idea of keeping the car looking as though it's not got a aftermarket body kit on it, but rather looking more "official" If you know what I mean. Hence the UK300 wing on the back. Front splitter is the only thing that's abnormal but it's similar design to what's on a blobeye so I think I get away with that. Maybe not so much hard o.n. but more just a picky so and so.. I've always liked the STi lights for some reason. Not sure why.. Just something about them even with the bugeye lens over them. They would be my 1st choice over morettes. To me morettes kinda look like the front of the car has been bashed (either that or have a set of missile silos), but they are agressive! Had an Sti follow me in the dark the other night and the light that comes off them is evil!! Tried to photoshop STi's onto it earlier but couldn't get it right. But to get the idea here's a photo of a red mica JDM with the appropriate lights
-
errr... no.... I'd rather stick with the standard... Of course could always go totally overboard and replace the wings/bumper/grill/bonnet and then fit a set of blobeye lights! If I coudl make it a hawkeye I'd be tempted although totally out of line in my books.. it's a bugeye and that's how it should stay! Making it look like somethign else is just "chavtastic" Car is sitting on the edge of that line already.. (which isn't good) Recently took the SUBARU lettering off the rear window to try tone it down a bit..
-
I thought about that earlier in the year and bought appropriate bulbs. But then discovered that the bulb isn't orange, there's an orange globe around the bulb that makes the tango! And didn't feel up to pulling the headlight apart..
-
I guess that answers that question then My concern was that they would look too after market. The front splitter is bad enough TBH.. never mind.. If the standard bonnet came down that far it'd probably be quite smart.. but it doesn't. As for covering the indicators.. (cant find appropriate image off hand) but they woudl cover most of the indicator allowing 3/4 of an inch for the indicator to project through.. But even with that I wonder if the local police/MOT station would accept them.. I kinda got used to the bugeye stling after the initial shock in 2001 and I never really planned changing the headlights. Keep thinking about it every so often.. Would like to see it with a set of STi lights just to see how it would look. Morrettes were a good alternative but nearly every 2nd impreza has them now.. Common as muck! The angel eye's are quite smart but I'm not sure they would suit the car..
-
After TheWelsho suggesting eyelids for the bugeye impreza a few weeks back I decided to photoshop some together. I never really liked the look of eye lids to be honest but after putting images together I think it's starting to grow on me. But the general feedback I've had so far is a big fat NO! Just curous as to what you guys thought.... (it's maybe a little OTT) Before: After: Before: After: flame suit at the ready
