Ok... it's time for me to ask a stupid questin... Stupid because I already know the answer, but I also don't know the answer.. Confused? i am.. Why is it that most people are recommending 10/40 oil yet I was recommended 5/40? I'm not critisising the advice I was given, I just want to know what makes the difference why is the 10/40 prefered here? (I've read all the bumf about the oil gradings but clearly I'm still confused) We get some pretty cold weather here in the north of scotand at this time of year... Am I likely to be getting a perfomance drop/causing harm with the low winter rating? basic Idiots guide please

True... I'm just jealous! That is a strong possibility.. There were rumors of two different PPP levels being available for the Hawkeye (Stage 1 and stage 2... WHich is consfusing and If you search the net you come across the US Stages 1,2 & 3.. The US Stage 2 is more like the UK Stage 1 or standard PPP) but it never surfaced so wouldn't surprise me if there will be two seperate PPP packages in the future! Hopefully there will be.. 400bhp woudl be nice and is achieveable from the 2.5l

Cant help you I'm afraid.. been looking for high res images myself to make up a Huge poster as well. Sadly high res ones aren't often available on-line If you find a source online or otherwise, let me know! Appreciate it!

yeah the bug WRX is limited to 7,000rpm but runs out of puff after 5,000.. Just nice to new the new one quite happy playing between 6 & 8

Nice result! But I cant help think it was maybe a little too set-up.. Ok the Impreza would beat an evo in a straight line or really high speed kinks but the evo's shouldnt have been understeering as much as that (same as Impreza by the look of it) in the bends. Did they have the center diff set for tarmac properly? Don't get me wrong I love the fact the Impreza is getting a good result! The a*** end is ugly as Flip we know that but I do like the front. The new STi is soundling like a good machine, but just how good? The EvoX was supposed to be much better than the old EvoIX but here it isn't.. I'm skeptical about the truths of the video but nice all the same.. (also according to the youtube comments the driver of the new STi is very good which would help) But I do like the 6,000rpm -> 8,000rpm driving! WooT! never take my WRX above 5.5k if I can help it don't want it goign bang on me.. Anyway, I eagerly await Tiff's verdict on the car when he gets his grubby hands on it...

I'm defiantely in the minority when it comes to what oil people are using.. 5w/40 Silkolene Pro S here.. After reccomendation from opieoils.co.uk

I do understand your comment.. But at the same time It's appreciating good footage of what one mad can do in a rally car! For example that video will go side by side with one of the other great rally videos! No.. not COlin but of Walter Rohl in the Audi with his riverdance technique on the pedals. How many times have we seen that video over the years? Are we still impressed with it? yes! and rightly so...

Ok.. Who are you? Seen the car a few times in Elgin get a wave too Keep seeing the car around, noticed you were down at the McRae public service.. Spotted you again at the Inches retail park in Inverness the day.. Anyone know who this is?

My god! I've watched plenty footage of Colin at work but that video has me bewildered! How... just HOW did he get that focus thought most of those turns!! That guy has something much stronger than "the force" on his side.. Forget natural ability, Supernatural more like it! WoW!!

Unless your are aiming for 350bhp+ then I woulnd't bother.. All your going to get from an induction kit is a bit nicer sooking induction noise but at the cost of a more regularly clogged MAF sensor.. (Generally speaking) the Induction sounds good when you put the foot down but it's not really worth it in a sensibly powered Impreza, you dont get that much of a difference in performance.. IMHO

Everytime I see one of those diagrams I go all wobbly at the knees!!

If anyone who missed it want's to download a DivX version and play it on their PC (Or DivX player) let me know and I'll make it available!

That was a good program..!! Shame it was only 30 minutes, but they managed to cram a lot into it... Worth the watch.. I haven't got my hands on the approprate DVD yet but I will.. Dunno when the best time is to watch it though.... I've heard the McRae critics say he wasn't a good drive because he crashed so much.. I think one comment in that program summed that up.. He was able to "drive faster than the car". "A true natural driver".. He didn't necessarily overdrive the car.. the car just couldn't keep up with with he wanted it to do. The only car that prooved that could keep up was the Impreza in 1995! A True drivers car! Dunno what everyone thinks of Petter Solberg but IMHO I see similar traits in him as to what McRae had.. Sadly the car has let him down in recent years. That guy has a similar determinateion to win! He just needs to feel the car is up to it! I recorded a program years ago that was on Men & Motors which went through good information about how to get into the sport.. If I ever get the money I'd defiantely be having a go!

Ahh yeah that makes sense....

Nice bit of information there! Nice one! Just a queston though... On the 01-05WRX page the titlee says " 01-05 WRX 2.0 UK/EURO STD 218/225 BHP" I never realised there was a difference between the UK and EU spec impreza.. What's the difference? Where does the extra power come from?

Dont you dare sell up on us!!! Does sound a bit of a nightmare though. Has this feeling with the car just came on recently or has it been feeling weird for a while? I know that with the suspension set-up to prodrive spec the inside of the tyres will get worn out pretty quickly (camber set to -1.2 degrees for PD settings) But shouldn't be wearing after 3,000 miles! That's just wrong! Also with the prodrive settings there have been comments about it pulling to the left quite often. My guess is similar to yours, it simply wasn't set up properly.. THe other settings is the Fast road settings which is more along hte lines of -0.9degrees camber at the front. Still bloody good for cornering but less inside tyre wear and more even balance on the road.. I should have gone with my first thought when I got my alignment done after the prodrive springs and got a decent set-up on it.. But I was talked out of it with the guy from GT tyres as he reckoned with that much camber I'd eat tyres very quickly.. AS it happens all else was fine and they just charged me for alignment check! But after that last run we had, I'm thinking I want more camber on the front for cornering (Not just making sure the wheel nuts are tightened).. Speaking to Euan afterwords about a sequence of corners, I felt the car struggling for grip on a few left hand bends but he was running behind me and never felt a thing... Ok I accept the classic will have better handling but I recently dug out my suspension settings and discovered very little camber on the front right, (-0.2) which would explain the problem.. Left front is at (-0.42).. Toying with the idea of tryign to match them up myself without paying for full laser alignment.. i know dodgy! but I can actually see the difference between the two front wheels and the angle they are sitting at.. Whoops! That's was a bigger reply that I thought it was going to be.. BTW - Did you ever discover the cause of your heavy steering on the last run?

Hmm.. never considered using a proper camcorder.. I know it sounds obvious.. But felt it was too big to lumber aroudn in the car.. woudl prefer something smalller like the bullet cam.. More descreet.. In saying that.. One of my next projects in an in-car PC so I could just plug a camera/webcam straight into the USB port for recording... Hmnnn... Quite fancy getting small cheap camera and attach it to the rear wing facing backwards for a laugh.. Cheap.. so if it falls off it's no biggy

Althought it looks like you've more or less covered a question I've had about Impreza engines, I'm going to ask anyway. Just how "soft" are newage WRX 2.0 engines? Probably temptimg fate here, but what should be done to look after them properly so they dont go bang. I generally keep it below 5k rpm unless in an emergency. What sort of things are likely to go wrong, early warning signs? And finally what are the options for a stronger engine? & rough costs? Got nothing wrong with the car, touch wood (<< I know that's brick wall) just looking for some background info from the experts

I've been looking at one of thest el-cheapo helmet cam's ebay linky Heard mixed reviews sound quality being quite poor.. and not sure whether it's worth it or not.. You get what you pay for I suppose and i'm not prepared to spend alot. So looking for alternatives too...

*drool* I'd love an NSX!!! Especially in that smarties blue.. Oh and if I win the lottery I'd have to find a Lotus Esprit V8 Twin Turbo as well.. Both great looking cars! But obviously keep the Impreza as a "sensible" car

Dunno.. TBH this is the first I head of it.. I though after last year they weren't goign to have any more tarmac stages on teh Granite City. I know the First too cooper park stages on the Speyside probably arean't goign ahead.. Hopefully ABZ will host a good one agaiN! Preferably at night!

That's good roundup of the year.. It's impossible to mention everything but looks like you've covered the important bits. Nice one! As rich says, cheers for the Elgin run mention
