Sure did notice that!!! Same side profile, same front end (apart from grill badge and scoop) same headlights it's the same damn body! The Japanese seem to do that. THe Classic Impreza was a copy of a toyota.. The bugeye looked again a bit like a corrola at the front with the headlights. But then they started to steer away from the copycat looks. The blobeye was almost the first origonal styling, bugeye without the bugeye! THe Hawkeye is the model that does it for me though.. Absolutely love it! even from the moment I first saw it.. Ok from a distance it can look liek a BMW at the front and yeah the SEAT style grill is a bit eugh.. but it wasn't stricly a copy from another manufacturers mould! I'd have a hawkeye based on looks easily! Mitsibishi got it right here by usign a relatively unique design for the EvoX.. Hopefuly thinking.... the bugeye only lasted two years before it was replaced mostly due to consumer feedback on the looks. Hopefully the same will happen again.. Actaully that mazda is probably a pretty good car TBH.. Based on a Focus I believe, which IMHO isn't necessarily a bad car these days, but they slapped the same off the shelf body onto it! But it skinda suits teh maza it DOESN'T suit an Impreza! Subaru should NOT be cutting costs on styling!! Any buddind car designers on here willing to design a new impreza for them as a volunteer?? (Heh! that a good idea for a SIDC competition, design a scooby, blue peter style) Cant be bothered playing back the video again., but did they mention the prices of the two cars? Mazda vs WRX I've waffled enough.. away to do something useful...

Maybe Subaru were right not to bother taking the WRX to the UK just leaving it to the STi! Would have proven the Impreza was still a force to be reckoned with. But a limited number of WRX's will enter the country and they will get eaten alive by the competition these days. As long as it's dry I think Subaru need to start evolving (Whoops wrong company) if they still want to have a car that others look up to for performance! About time they forced Prorive to put that P2 into production! .. hey! wait a sec.. instead of "P2" why not call it the "McRae"!

Right ok.. Here's the plan.. Stickers should look like this (Ignore the grey background that's just there to show the white colour) Size: 305mm x 55mm (Approx) Other sizes could be available on special request These are designed to be applied on the outside of the car either on the glass or bodywork. Internal glass ones could be made up but applying can be tricky. (see below) I'm thinking £10 for a pair p&p covered in the cost, 1st class mail. That's one for each side of the vehicle (Unless anyone just wants one.. ) with £6 being donated to the nominated charity "The Jerviswood Trust". Details of the charity can be found at http://www.colinmcrae.com/ I'll make sure to complete the gift aid declaration when sending off the funds, This should mean the charity will get £7.68 for each pair of stickers ordered! (if I understand correctly) Payments can be made via Paypal, cheque or cash if local PM me for ordering What you'll receive Before you start make sure it's not raining and have a dry clean surface to apply to, no grease/oily stuff or grit on the surface. You will receive 4 parts. Two parts for each side, a white section and the blue bits for the flag. First part you'll have the white section: Peel the backing off gently and make sure the white vinyl sticks to the masking tape type stuff. Line up where you want the sticker to go. then press out any air bubbles from the inside out (centre to left..then centre to right) using a squeegee a credit card or possibly the SIDC membership card will do Once firmly stuck down peen back the masking tape to hopefully it's all stuck to the car! if not gently place the masking tape stuff (application tape) back inline and press down any parts which weren’t sticking (This normally wont happen if the surface is cleaned properly before hand. Next step is to create the flag. Same as before peel back the backing stuff. But this time try and align the triangles of the flag perfectly with the white square, note there should be about a 1mm white outline, the triangles will fit inside the white box. Don’t apply pressure onto the blue sections with a squeegee thing until your sure it's in the right place.. You should be able to align the blue triangles several times to get it right as long as you don't press it down on the surface. Once your happy with the position apply pressure over the flag using the squeegee /card to remove any bubbles and make sure the whole lot is stuck. Once again peel back the application tape and voila you should have something looking similar to this (without all the extra crap underneath) Actually, I'll try and put a video together in the next day or so showing how to apply these things for anyone who isn't used to them it can be a little tricky... Internal application Note :the reason these are made up for external application is because in putting them on the inside you'd need to put the blue flag section on first then the white and as you can imagine it's not so easy to line up, but if anyone is willing to have a go I can get internal ones made up. Just don’t go blaming me if it doesn't look right

Yep I'll be buying 2 stickers and one vinyl one methinks.. Vinyl for the top right of the rear window and a sticker for each side of my rear wing (if I ever finish the spray painting of it) The "sticker" is a clear/transparent square with the text and signature printed on it. One of the best ways to present fine detailed stuff. Producing the signature part in vinyl alone is tricky as it coudl peel off easily. The "Vinyl" set is vinyl where you peel off the backing and press on the desired location removing air bubbles then peel off the application tape. Remember to clean the surface of any oily stuff or grime first. Alcohol based solvents are good. I tend to use meths but watch you dont over do it on the paintwork as it could start to eat away at the laquer/paint if your not careful. The windows will be fine though.. It's a little out of my league at the moment. But your local signs and graphics place should be able to make somethign up for you. They may charge around £100->£200 to produce and apply them to the car.. If you fancy havign a go yourself there's often full decal sets available on eBay that may be worth a look.. [Another post coming soon regarding rally style tribute stickers...]

Thanks for the replies! That image is the one I looked at earlier and it wasnt very descripting.. It's difficult to tell where about that image is. But your wee markers help thanks So will it be easier to get to it from ontop of the car or underneith? Going for an oil-change tomorrow if the weather aint too damp so will be under it anyway... (Edited to add - Do I really need to remove part of the exhaust to get access? That'll be a pig!)

that's poor!! Anyone wanna play spot the difference! Apart from the slalom the WRX is outclassed easily! But that's probably more because other manufacturers are catchign and passing the WRX as opposed the the My08 WRX being relativly pish. Still if they want ot compete with the super hot-hatches they need to perform and price like them! The WRX as a family saloon was the benchmark! Not next year..... P.s. Can we PLEASE have some good news next weekend!! I'm getting sick of all the bad news recently...

Hi folks, Posted this earlier in Strictly Technical but it seems too many people are not aroudn on a saturating evening. (What a surprise!..) Hoping to get a quicker response here... Thanks! Got back from a rather extended saturday drive and about 60miles away from home noticed the speedo was flapping around then dropping to zero then popping up again.. Seemed odd but was heading home so thought I'll check it out later. couple of miles down the road noticed the trip counter wasn';t counting as quicky as it should for the distance! Sounding more serious and needs resolved. another 5 (ish) miles down the road and the CEL light comes on. Well yee-bloomin-haa! So after a boring limp home I ran a diagnostic and sure enough "vehicle speed sensor malfunction" what a surprise! Question is, where is it located? I checked the impreza manual (not the handbook but that pdf workshop manual that's kickign around) and there is reference to the sensor but it doesnt really say where it is located? Can anyone help!?! Thanks

Hmnn.. Heres a thing.. Would you buy it if it had a CM350 badge on it? A new Colin McRae edition with 350bhp? (note that's made up at this time but surely there will be a special edition) Despite the uglyness.. I believe I would...

HELP!!!! I'm starting to like it!!!!!!! Those rear lights still need sorting out though..

Thanks! lemme work out costs and a price and I'll maybe set-up a group buy type thing for them. Obviously any profit made will go to whatever selected charity is decided upon. I'll send Phil a PM just now and see what the deal is..

Cut these out last night but only just got them stuck on tonight. This is my contribution, until official stickers are confirmed... Will be looking out for some black ribbon too...

Colin Was Apparently In Talks With Subaru
scouk replied to superstar_tradesman's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Woah!.... That would have been the best news I'd heard in years! I'd always hoped Colin would go back to the SWRT. He always seemed more at home behind the wheel of an impreza rather than the focus.. But instead, we've been presented with the worst news. Now I'm really sickened at the news... Life is cruel........ -
Just been skimming the net for ideas and come across these two: The North Americal Scooby CLub have come up with this: http://www.rs25.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68063 Nice touch! The Ford RS Owners CLub (as mentioned on another thread here): http://www.rs25.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68063 I quite like this one....

Nice idea! What I was thinking was something along the lines of the Richard Burns stickers. (I know a rip off therefore probably not appropriate) But a simple sticker for the car that says: I tried to cut one out in vinyl last night but the text is just too small to do it that way. Would need to get them made up as stickers with transparent backing... I'll maybe see if If I can find some black ribbon instead...

Hey guys, Well done with te convoy! if I wasnt' so far north I'd definately have been there... Recorded the news report on Sky News and BBC24 earlier for future reference..... Couple snap shots: (Note: mods, if this is too far out of line regarding copyright and whatever then feel free to remove the images...)

Truely a sad event.. Never met Colin, closest I got was when he ran in the Ford Puma Course car at the spey-side stages rally a few years back. I had always hoped the SWRT woudld see sence and dig into their pockets to have a Solberg/McRae Driver line up. I'm completely gobsmaked by the news. My thoughts go out to family/friends and all that knew him (LOTS of people!) And whether you want to admit it or not, one of the main reasons were all a part of the SIDC and why the Impreza has become a true icon in history is because of that great man. He has affected so many lives in the last 20 years its rediculous! He made subaru what it is today! He made UK rallying what it is today! He was the first ever British World Rally Champion!! A great man.... no... your right a Ledgend!! Forget hammond.. Colin will always be The driving GOD! Long may we remember.... R.I.P. Colin McRae....
-
If this report is true.. This is a VERY Sad day for all. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/mor...icle2461339.ece Colin McRae is the sole reason why I'm so passionate about the Impreza and I'm sure most Impreza owners in the country.. I'm lost for words........

Geez!! Just heard the news!!! This is very worrying!
-
Me too and it's a bugeye Although I'd swap it for a hawkeye any day! The classics are great looking machines but the interior is a bit too dated these days IMHO...
-
I was recommended Silkolene 5w 40 Not had a chance to pour it in yet though...
-
Nah not for me... Still looks liek any old car with SWRT livery on it.. TBH that side profile looks ugly! remember the BMW M-Coupe with the long nose and blobby cabin/rear end. It's like that.. (an no that isn't a good look, IMHO) To me the lines are just all wrong look as all other impreza's there a definitive set of lines you can follow from front to back, even the bugeye has character. This just doesn't look right somehow. The design just doesn't seem sharp somehow the archway wheel arches and hpat skirts joining it. Gimme the bulging body building wheen arches of teh new age anyday!. It may be an impreza underneith but it's wearing a very baggy coat to hide the 6-pack & muscles! ... and I wish they didn't keep those bloody rear lights!! But... if it's gonna get us some rally wins I'm all for it! Cant see me buying one though...

Looks like an easy one to spot, but I aint seen it around... (Really must open my eyes one of these days) Although saw a white classic parked up at the Robertsons building today (Pinefield Ind Est) not seen that one aroudn before either.. I must be slipping.. Not unless SmilerAS has changed his company car back to something less practical
