  1. D'oh! Unsure... But it bounced quite a bit... Similar to that video clip of a rally car hitting a deer that was floating around here a couple months ago.. Fortunately less damage.. Was worried about it heading over the bonnet into the windscreen... F*&K that!!! But got off lucky this time methinks... Dunno about the deer... If it didn't stop in the middle of the road for an extra "hop" as it saw the car I'd have probably missed it..
  2. Mostoddloch > Rothes road, just before the junction that meets with the elgin road under the bridge.. on the approach to that. Too many trees at that bit so never saw it coming....
  3. Bloody things.. was driving at a sensible speed 50-60..Honest guv! Initial inspection: -------------------- Front splitter cracked and lost a bit of paint but still attached! Lost a fog light cover Number Plate cracked Grill insert cracked and lost a bit of paint Headlight pushed in a couple of inches & bracket destoyed so the ol bugeye's will have to go back on Bonnet got a small dent in it! (Which I'm more annoyed at than anything else as I'll probably have to find a friendly body shop to straighten up.. Any suggestions? And aquired some added fluff to the front of the car
  4. Amen to that!
  5. LOL! That car cannae half shift! Shame the guy in the Impreza doesn't know how to drive! Checkout the clunkyness off the line!
  6. Yep.. thanks.... I should be able to disable the CEL alart on the map (Had to do that when I removed the 3rd cat).. If not I have resistors standing by Well, heat wrap ordered, up-pipe hopfully getting picked up this week. Just need some decent weather this weekend and then some tweaking on sunday . o O (It never goes that easily for me... )
  7. Yeah.. STi's only come with 1 cat in the downpipe.. rest is decatted. Only recently found out that the up-pipe on classics is the same pipe they use in the newage STi's... Strangely it appears there is a weak spot in the WRX catted up-pipes as my one seem to have burst in the same way ScoobyDoom's up-pipe went last year, both Bugeye WRX's. Welding near the lower flange... But I'll be able to identify the exact problem once I get it out... I just know it's leaking from that area...
  8. WoooT! and just noticed a new version of the rom editing software (RomRaider)that will finally let me test the dual-map option properly which as some of you know is an option already available though an ECU-Tek remap! Can't wait to try this lot out!! Assuming I don't break anything in the process....
  9. Not sure... It should tell you in the handbook I think... the 242 was for my bugeye wrx
  10. Taking it cannae yes it will be ok... But I can make the required map adjustments myself via laptop . Main problem will probably be overboost as more air will be hitting the turbo so will have to open up the wastegate a bit to keep it under control.. but will still require some logging and tweaking ASAP once installed...
  11. It's the Up-pipe I'm replacing.. THe Downpipe will still ahve the "full fat" OEM cat in it... Unless I've been mis-lead, the cat in the downpipe should be enough for the MOT? otherwise I'll be sticking the 3rd cat back on for the test Last year I had a small leak in the exhaist and the emissions test failed on 1st attempt as a result.. The garage kindly gunked up the leak and it passed on 2nd attempt, so wanna make sure no leaks this time.. And If I can get more oomph at the end as a result all the better Fair enough... that makes sense... thanks!
  12. What's really depressing is that my dad runs around in a 35+ year old landrover... The MOT test for it doesn't have an emissions test, it has a "smoke test" (No joke!) yet he pays £0 for road tax! WTF is that all about!!!!!
  13. Pretty much got a up-pipe sourced thanks to euan Heatwrap from scoobyparts out of stock! arrgh!! Roughly how much would be needed to wrap the up-pipe? Probably not much as it's a short pipe... Also any advantages to wrapping the center pipe? (where the 3rd cat usually sits) De-catted that one last year but left the heatsheild off... Thanks,
  14. LOL! YOu make it sound so easy! The bolts surrounding the turbo area are usualyl my problem... Trying to loosen bolts which have been superheated by turbos aint fun.... Thanks for the guide though! that helps!
  15. Right... My up-pipe has a decent sized leak in it which needs sorted with an MOT due next month. Good excuse for a de-cat methinks Couple questions. 1) Where's the best place to get one from that's manufactured to a decent quality that it will fit properly? Heard dodgy stories of eBay ones not fitting properly. Oh and needs to be decently priced 2) What's the story with this heat wrap stuff? Is it worth it over refitting heatsheilds? If so where would I get some for the up-pipe? I understand it's a case of soaking the stuff in water first them wrapping it tightly round the pipe and holding it one with clips of somesort? 3) Anyone got a quick step by step guide on how to replace the up-pipe? I know my way aroudn the car, pretty well but a guide from someone who's done it before would be handy Thanks, Al
  16. Hate to say it but it does sound similar to the turbo problems you described Hopefully not too serious but should be checked out soon just to be safe! Currently got mine up on ramps trying to locate an exhaust leak and found two seperate ones! Not 100% sure where the bigger one is coming from though... Hidden behind heat shields
  17. Sounds about right sadly... At least your increase has gone up over a couple of years.. 200 > 300 then > 400 Mine goes from 210 up to 415 next year!! WTF's up with that!! Take note! a "New" sporty car will cost you big in 2010+ Classics start to look more attractive with changes like this....
  18. Recently repainted my front ones using a tub of red High temperature paint from halfords. Then did the lettering in white using radiator paint and a narrow brush.. THe high temperature part if pretty important as the calipers can generate a lot of heat in their time.. and you dont want the paint melting off One downside of this paint is that it takes a while for it to harden properly... Not a paint then drive affair.. Hope this helps..
  19. Sounds about right.. Yes you can get fined.. But if you can proove the existence of a valid tisc for the date/time the disc was found absent, and the good reason why it is not on your vehicle at the tiem of checking you can drop teh fine.. However Is it worth the hassle! Just apply for it on teh 15th liek I did (Unlike last year ) That's what gets me.. Is it an offence to display the tax disc before the end of month? It has an expiry date but no start date from what I can tell! So technically it's valid IMHO... Dunno if the boys in blue woudl agree... P.s. THanks for the reminder to switch mine now before tomorrow morning
  20. Nice!! I remember you saying your turbo was on the way out before went down the road! Good choice for a replacement.. You could go bigger though Nice ta hear from you again! Keep us enformed of how well that bad boy does
  21. The silly thing is that "new" cars dont come from the garages looking that good! If you have any interest in how good your car looks, this sort of service is money well spent! Once it's done properly once it's easy to keep up the maintenance and keep it looking that good wash after wash! People say never to buy a black car as it's too much hassle to keep clean.... Lazy sods!... Look what you get when it does get a good tidy up!!! Spot-on!!!
  22. Yeah.. naturally you'll get about 0.6bar of boost due to natural back pressure without the assitance of the wastegate, which is about 1/2 the boost that the STi delivers IIRC... The ECU will basically leave the wastegate wide open to keep boost pressure as low as physically possible incase of problems...
  23. Stay tuned to the "Events" thread for an update on what's happening! http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...30669&st=60
  24. D'oh! Was though Dufftown a couple of times today as well... Oh well... Does sound like somethign nasty is goign on... No boost and flashing CEL's means Safe mode.... I.e. get you home and get it serviced sort of thing...
