  1. Not the only one. Once the diesel Leggy or Forester come down to much cheapness, I am planning getting one for my daily runner. Don't see the problem in a hybrid. Fair play to Subaru for trying something new.
  2. I would just reiterate the advice above. Make sure the car has a full history. Don't necessarily go for the newest car you find, and be prepared to travel for the right one. Mine came from Rochdale! I work in Inverclyde, but commute in my daily runner, a Corolla.
  3. There has always been a sensible thread about car crime struggling to get out. Unfortunately, it has taken 2 and a half pages of nonsense, slagging and people being prats (myself included) to get there. It is still my view that posting these links onto an owners club forum is not appropriate and not the way to kick off a sensible and educated debate on car crime. I still take what I am seeing with a pinch of salt as whilst some of the videos do appear to be of car thieves/joyriders, others I am not so sure about - maybe boy racers / chavs being passed off as thieves in an effort to up the profile of any particular thief. It is also difficult to take seriously, posts from a member who has been previously banned and is now back posting under a new user name. It is worrying that car crime seems to be on the increase, particularly as keys are required for modern cars and that likely means trying to break and enter your house for the keys, or even turn up at the door demanding the keys. Wilky has hit the nail on the head re your personal home security and taking active steps to make it hard for them. If you are concerned that crimes have been committed or posted on the net or someone is casing your local area, send the details to the police. The attitude of ‘there is no point, the police won’t do anything’ is hardly helpful. Let the police decide if the info is useful and worth pursuing. You never know, it might just be the call or information they needed to bag the little blighters.
  4. The Shell garage on the A80 at Cumbernauld.
  5. Bit below the belt that. In one of the clips on YouTube the file is of a passenger riding in a blue newage, and I think, by the shape of the scoop, it is a bugeye. Scoobzie/Diablo/RACERX drives a blue bugeye. The driver in the clip isn't wearing gloves and it looks more like a spirited run out in the hills than a joyride in a nicked motor. I just can't help thinking that there is something more to this than just some prat posting links he randomly found on YouTube. Where is Milton by the way??
  6. Unfortunatly, it is the country we live in. To be honest, if someone broke into my house late at night with a wepon demanding the keys, I would hand them to them. Isn't worth an argument or myself or my partner ending up in hospital. Thats what the insurance is for. That is not an invite to any local criminals mind. The house has a seriously wired up alarm that splits your ear drums when it goes off, and the car a tracker so you won't get far before it gets found!
  7. But that was my point earlier in the thread. If you are concerned that you have found allegedly stolen cars on YouTube, then report it to the police. If you know the guys name or alias, then pass to the police. Don't encourage them by posting links on a forum. If it was my car that had been nicked, I wouldn't want a video of the thieving little ****s driving it posted on this forum. I would however thank anyone who brought such a video quietly to my attention and I would pass details to the police. This thread is still not going to stop my car, or anyone elses car getting stolen. Scoobzie/Diablo/RACERX reporting his concerns to the police, or even crimestoppers might do.
  8. And how is posting up a few links showing people driving allegedly stolen cars going to stop my car getting nicked?
  9. Come to think of it, I remember someone saying a couple of months back they had seen Scoobzie's car at Hypertech or somewhere and it had RACERX on it as a 'user name'. Adds up now.
  10. Surely posting up the links is just giving them the kudos they crave for managing to steal a specific type of car. People (as I did) will go through the links and view on YouTube, upping their number of 'views' and encouraging them even further. If you think a crime has been committed then pass details to the police. If you specifically recognise a car as being nicked from someone you know or someone on here then speak to the person, or PM them on here. They can then also contact the police with reference to their crime number. I agree that they are little ****s and should get whats coming to them but I for one will not be flooding Milton with Imprezas on Friday and Saturday night as you suggest in your other post. I would prefer an evening in my local pub rather than somewhere I don't know, getting bricks hurled at me.
  11. Got to agree with Stephen, might be an idea to pass the information onto the Police who may be able to deal with the little **** if it is indeed correct rather than posting it up here.
  12. At least there are plenty standard bugeye headlights to be had if oven heated de-tangoing goes wrong. Avoid cheap aftermarket sets from Ebay. Morettes, UK300 style and STI headlights come up on Ebay now and gain but are normally in excess of £300 for a decent set. I have a set of STI headlights in the garage (not for sale mind ). Remember they are not plug in and go as the wiring on the WRX and STI are different. Put the STI lights on mine last summer but the way they are wired up, the dipped beam goes off when the full beam goes on and ended up taking them back off again. Really need to take them to an electrician and get them wired up to work properly, get the alignment sorted, try a set of decent bulbs and give them another go. The offside light just doesn't quite want to fit either. Wouldn't mind a set of UK300 style lights.
  13. Looking good there. Will be off to JB Coachworks myself soon to get the bodywork tidied up.
  14. Great idea if anyone listens to the comments suggestions.......
  15. A standard UK WRX will run fine on 95 RON.
  16. Welcome I am just up the road in Dunlop.
  17. I tried an Admiral Multi quote for our three cars. 2002 Impreza WRX (pretty standard, tracker), my daily runner - 1.6 Corolla and her 1.3 Suzuki Swift with a few body mods. Came out more expensive than individual policies. Strangely though, all our cars are insured with the Admiral Group. Admiral for the Subaru, Bell for the Corolla and Diamond for the Swift.
  18. Was in last night. All '99 pumps are off again!
  19. Slightly off topic but when I was out in Oz a couple of years ago we stayed with our friends parents out in the bush. There was great excitement that week as their Ford Falcon had just clocked past the 900,000 Kms mark. Think that works out at over 550,000 miles!
  20. Sounds very much like Mr Welsho. Can't be more than one of them, can there?
  21. Elephant, Bell and Admiral are all the same company. I am with Admiral for the Scooby and Bell for the Corolla. The Mrs insures her Swift through Diamond, who are also part of Admiral! Using Compare the Meerkat and the like is all very well, but the prices you get will have no benefits and huge excesses. Also many companies won't quote on those sites when you mention mods, no matter how simple, yet are fine when you phone them direct. Got that issue with the Mrs' Swift which has non standard alloys and front fogs! I would take anything the comparison websites say with a big pinch of salt.
  22. My Impreza is still at Hypertech, just got me Corolla at the moment so only two wheel drive for me. Really piling down in Ayrshire at the moment. Strangely though, was out earlier and it was clear and rainy less than a mile down the road!!
  23. KM's were about £630 for me, on a standard power WRX. Full NCB, garaged etc, and only about 5 miles or so from you. Still paying £480 with Admiral. Insurers must like you!
  24. If they have a tank full of 99, then it must be getting pretty old. The pumps haven't worked since about Christmas!
  25. I am in East Ayrshire and now use Hypertech in Bonnybridge for all my service work. Not exactly local but the service is second to none and well worth the travel. Getting the geometry done there next week. £55 I think Duncan said.
