  1. I will give you a shout in the spring and get a price for a few bits and bobs
  2. That does look like a rotary rather than a random orbital so like StrikE says, you will need extreme caution so as not to burn the paint clean off the panels. Does seem a very cheap package so no idea what kind of pads etc it is coming with. I bought myself a Megs G220 a couple of years back from Polished Bliss. I was a complete novice but decided to use the Pug 106 runaround I had at the time for practice. The results were amazing. Only when I was happy and got the feel of the machine did I tackle the Subaru. Best heading over to DW or drop an Email to someone like Polished Bliss for advice on pads and compounds etc. PBs website has a good step by step guide too.
  3. A blast from the past! From the days when my only problem was a seized handbrake!
  4. Looks like the thing had been going to the wrong address. All sorted and it has been sent off to the new insurer this afternoon so should arrive before their 15th Feb deadline. My thanks to Gary for sorting it out.
  5. Cheers Gary. Have edited the first post a bit as was written in heat of the moment and a bit unfair. I know you don't deal with this paperwork direct hence my follow up calls with your admin section. Thanks again.
  6. No, there is nothing in the paperwork, you have to ask if you want them to send you your proof of your NCB. Gary has confirmed over on Scoobynet that that is the case and they won't issue it unless you ask. However, I have now been in contact with Gary on Scoobynet and I think he will get it sorted for me. Also spoke to a very nice man in Mumbai from my new insurer and they are going to chase up KMs direct. My renewal this year came in only a day or so before it was up. Maybe I suffer from renewing just after Christmas. My first post written in the heat of the moment ws perhaps a bit unfair. I will still give them a go in the future and they may offer me a price I can't say no to. This year however their best price was £670 with a £350 excess. For a like for like policy, Admiral were £480 with a £250 excess. For a pretty much standard car that probably isn't worth a huge amount these days, it was a no brainer.
  7. Never thought of that. Don't really frequent Scoobynet much. Have posted there now.
  8. Been with Keith Michaels for the last couple of years which as many people may know can be a bit frustrating when it comes to trying to get hold of Gary. Renewals also only came out with 2 days notice. Switched to another insurer last month as they were almost £200 cheaper than KM with a lower excess for a like for like policy. Needed proof of my NCB to send on to the new insurer so Gary said he would send that out. That was a month ago and despite repeated phone calls, no proof has been sent. My new insurers are now threatening to cancel my policy as I have not complied with their terms and conditions re providing proof of my NCB.
  9. Whats went right? To be honest, I am just fed up with the car. One thing after another. Got the wheels done and after about 6 months I noticed some of the lacquer was starting to bubble. Left it and it got worse. Lacquer went cloudy and now most of it has come off. Was told I wasn't looking after them properly and had used to harsh cleaning products. I used Meguires Hyperwash and Poorboys wheel sealant, so I don't think so. Ended up kerbing one very hard so just left it in the end, plus moving house took priority. Two years done the line now, and they are worse than before I got it done. Kerbed wheel ended up being the least of my problems however. Got a bit of brake shudder after that, went to Greers, brakes worn out. I supplied new discs they put them on. Told them I had walloped a kerb and asked them to check for damage. Told all was ok. 2k miles later, brake shudder back. Greers diagnosed seized calipers. I supplied Greers with a set of brembos and associated new discs to go on. Shudder came back. Went back to Greers for a set of rear shockers which had gone, asked them to look the brakes again. Didn't bother looking and told me probably my fault for buying cheap discs. Now with Duncan at Hypertech where a bent hub has been diagnosed. This has been causing every set of discs to warp. Been like this since I hit the kerb. Greers might have noticed it had they bothered to clean the hubs before bolting on the new discs on top of all the dirt build up. And as for the 'seized' calipers. Terzo Neil tool them off my hands, found there was nothing wrong with them after all, and I believe Empty Heed now has them on her Classic. How can a bent hub be diagnosed as seized calipers??? Answers on a postcard. To top it all, the thing got keyed at the end of last year. And breathe! Sorry, rant over, feel better for that. Back to the topic in question. When I sort out the wheels in the spring, I will go for a painted finish as I am unconvinced about the longevity of the lacquer on the powdercoating.
  10. One of my collegues uses Auto Image and swears by them. Was going to try them myself but I just haven't got round to looking for a spare set of wheels to borrow yet. They will loan you a set of wheels but unfortunatly they don't have anything that will go over Brembos. My Chameleon powdercoated wheels were completely fecked within 6 months.
  11. Just changed mine to Admiral, moving away from Keith Michaels. KM wanted £620 to renew with a £350 excess. With Admiral, I am now only £480 with a £250 excess.
  12. I have always had something similar with my Bugeye. Never got to the bottom of it. Recently changed the rear shockers as they were shot, and it still does it. I have always put it down to the jack. Must take it out sometimes and see if it cures it.
  13. Truly shocking! Why would someone want to do something like that? Feel for you mate. Got my door keyed not so long ago, but that is nothing compared to what you got. Hope you get it back to its best soon!
  14. Last night was crazy. Left work in Greenock at 3.30pm and was pushing 6pm by the time I got home to Dunlop, a journey which normally takes 45 mins. I don't normally commute in the Subaru but had luckily taken it as the roads in Ayrshire were already really bad from Monday's snow. I would never have made some of the hills on the Ayrshire back roads otherwise. The awd really comes into its own when you live out in the sticks. The gritting was non-existent and not a snowplough in sight. But then, who needs snowploughs though when you can just use the front of the car!
  15. Nice one. The number of times I wish something like that would happen! Always good to see someone get pulled after a dose of seriously bad driving.

  17. As long as you don't actually tell them it is an STI when it is not, then I would just accept the price they wanted to offer. A few years ago my parents traded in a base model which had all the extras on it to make it look like a much higher spec car. They correctly told him what model it was but being a typical salesman, didn't listen and assumed it was the higher spec car. My parents didn't realise and the first they knew they have been given too high a price for the trade-in was three days after the dropped it off when the garage phoned up to tell them. By then the deal was done and the garage had no come back. I am sure the salesman got a very large boot up the backside.
  18. Thought that yesterday browsing Pistonheads. Saw 3 or 4 advertised as an STI which clearly weren't. Just waiting for the first unsuspecting punter to come along!
  19. £640 with Keith Michaels (£300 excess). 30 year old with a reasonably standard 2002 WRX, 8 years NCB but an at fault claim in 2007, business use and parked on the road. Now going to have it garaged so hopefully it will come down a wee bit. No one else ever comes close to KM abet I have never tried A-plan. Will need to give them a go at renewal time.
  20. Barely had it 5 mins and been to see Andy F already.
  21. First time this has happened to me. Pretty sure it would be one of the kids that hang about at the church at the bottom of the Main Street. It was parked there at the time. Nice welcome to the new village! It isn't through to the metal, but it will be too deep to polish out. JB Coachworks in Paisley?
  22. Car has been parked on the road for the last few months since moving. Discovered the other day that some wee ned had done this. This in a quiet village where not even the bus shelter is vandalised! Ironically, it was done on the last night before I got the new house with a garage for it.
