  1. This thread was from 4 years ago. Quite a resurection!
  2. I had assumed we wouldn't get anything new sent until each renewal, hence I held off as I thought it was imminent. But if stuff is going to be sent out to members with the new identity then, as you say, no reason not to renew now. I absolutely agree with the reasons with the rebrand. To take the club forward with new interest, members and to give it a future, it is completely correct to open up the club to other models. The STI is now not marketed as an Impreza, the BRZ is here etc etc. Just think that 'International' is wrong. It makes it sound like an overseas club with no relevance to the UK. Hope I am proved wrong and it brings more interest and members. In fact, there we go, "Subaru Interest and Drivers Club." A club for all those who have an interest in, and drive Subarus! However, it is still the same club, so off to renew my membership now.
  3. Is the name of this place still going to change? I had held off renewing my membership until it had gone through, as I thought it was imminent and I assumed the renewal pack would reflect the new name (although I still think the proposed new name is just plain daft ).
  4. Regent St BP in Grenock closed this morning. They are always rip off merchants but the totem sign had 1.52p a litre on it!
  5. There were queues yesterday in Inverclyde and Ayrshire and I ended up running about all afternoon with the fuel light on as I couldn't be bothered queueing. Went down to Tesco in Kilmarnock at 11pm last night and I was the only one there! Filled up as normal and that will see me though until next week.
  6. Could send them off to somewhere like Godspeed.
  7. There was an article last year about the compensation that local authorities were having to pay out for claims for damage to vehicles. At current rates, it is actually cheaper to pay out compensation than it is to do proper, pernament repairs to the roads!!
  8. Just back from a long day trip from Ayrshire, impressed I actually managed to get up at 05.00! Went to Daviot, Rogie and Glenurquhart. Not a bad day all in, a bit of walking, particularly at Rogie. Not sure why they can't use the wide forest road up to the stage rather than the boggy field 25 mins away. Had to smile to myself as everyone started getting stuck in the field and I simply pulled away in the Impreza without even any wheel spin. The one thing which always dissappoints me at the Snowman is the behaviour of the spectators. They are always by far the worst behaved rabble of any rally I go to, by a very long way. Watching some young lads in Glenurquhart staggering about the track whilst completely plastered was frightning! Run back down the A9 was fun with a complete white out in parts. Spotted your car at Daviot Alan, but didn't see anyone else I recognised.
  9. Try to encourage some Subaru’s along!! First three cars at the last meet were a Merc, an Audi and a Toyota! Traditionally, the Glasgow meets have always been on the 1st Thursday or each month at Hillington. In their heyday when we used to see in excess of 20 cars and I think the regularity of the meets helped in this as you always knew when it was on whether you were on the forum or not. Now, there are a smaller number who regularly make it along to meets. Most are forum regulars plus you have Facebook etc these day too (must find everyone on FB!) so pretty sure the message about a different location for example would get about ok if announced early. Probably makes sense to move the meet about. Maybe alternate between Hillington and Baillieston or something and hopefully encourage more folk long. Appreciate Hillington doesn’t always suit those from more far flung locations. For most of us in the west, it would only be an extra 10 mins or so along the M8/M74. I would still stick with the established date though (1st Thursday) and make sure folk know to check the location for each month. Beyond that, I am looking forward to some good runs in the summer. Faslane Road is a must but alternating meets could open up some different runs on the other side of Glasgow as Badbaz suggests? Summer BBQ run is always good but would a weekend be better? Make it easier for those who don’t have enough time after work to get through in time for a BBQ on the Thursday evening? In fact, what about the odd weekend meet in the summer, maybe in conjunction with other areas, in additional to the regular Thursday nights? Winter meets? Not much you can do. The odd tunnel run, convoy through to other area meets, bowling etc? Well done Kenny for stepping up and I hope you get a decent attendance over the next few meets.
  10. Good stuff Kenny! There's an idea for the next meet on 1st March, a wee tunnel run. Just a stones through from Hillington!
  11. The wheel I whacked off a kerb a while back is very slighlty out of being true. Is on the back now and causes no problems. Was it one of Inverclyde's finest potholes Marko? The B786 and B788 are killing my Corolla on the commute! In ashocking state!
  12. Unfortunatly yes. I couldn't run it as my main car, hence why I have my Corolla for commuting and running about. Even trying to get rid of that for something cheaper for funds to keep the Impreza going for another couple of years.
  13. The nose is wrong. Needs to be shorter for the rest of the car. Would I buy one? Hmm, for my daily runner, in principle, I probably would! But then I drive a Bugeye and a box on wheels (Toyota Corolla). And my budget to replace the Corolla will be £1500!
  14. Just renewed with Admiral lat week. £442 - thats £40 cheaper than last year!
  15. Was speaking to my mate tonight and asked him if he remembered the conversation. His mate Alan who was up here at Christmas is a Contaminated Land Consultant down south and previously worked on a contract relating to forecourt refurbishment where he dealt with reports on the tanks. That was what he was talking about. Turns out however he hasn’t done that for about 2 years since changing employer. Currently he is happily drilling boreholes in the gardens of folks new build houses just outside London where the contamination wasn’t dealt with properly. He is not working on anything relating to petrol stations now so your assessment above was right Davie – he was talking pish!
  16. Nah, wasn't URS. Dunno, probably a case of Chinese whispers and too much Christmas partying! Friend of a friend who is clearly not a reliable one! Could even have meant a different supplier for all I know. We were talking about BP petrol beforehand as I remember he thought BP Ultimate was better than VPower. Good to hear there will be no reduction in Shell stations anyway.
  17. Works for some consultant or other that do the ground and contamination reports, particularly where you are re-tanking a site. Had said the Scottish work was winding down and Shell were looking to off load the last of the un-refurbished sites up here to other operators. Must have been on too much Christmas wine! I stand corrected. Are there many still to be done? Only ones I can think of are some through Renfrewshire which were still to be done last time I was in.
  18. Shell have been on a heavy investment programme recently and have done a lot of work to their forecourts. I was told at Christmas, by someone who is involved with the forecourt upgrade south of the border, that Shell are looking to off load a number of Scottish sites and any forecourt which has yet to be upgraded and is not in the programme for early this year will be off loaded to other operators. Tesco 99 is a close second to Vpower. It is the same stuff, just the additives and detergents that are different. Phil1967 on here will tell you all about it. He delivers the stuff.
  19. Speak to Robert, he may have some you could have. I got some from him a while ago.
  20. I thought that when I got one the other week. According to the tester it is designed to be just a record of the test and it is all done online now. If you wish formal confirmation that the car has an MOT, you need to check online.
  21. Other end of South Lanarkshire but try Badbaz's place? http://www.dmcgowanandson.co.uk/
  22. Looking good mate. However, the test will be what they are like after a year. Chameleon did wheels for me a while ago and they lasted less than 12 months before the laquer and coating below failed on all 4 wheels. Went back to Chameleon with the problem but they didn't want to know. I have seen good and bad reports about Chameleon , but personally, I would never recomend them.
  23. I changed my battery a couple of weeks ago and it was just a case of connecting it up and away it went. Got it from Euro car parts, but not at a discounted rate
  24. No plans to change it so here is to another 5 years.
