------------ A MAN was yesterday accused of stealing a kids' ambulance which was later found torched. George Halliday, 35, was remanded in custody after a brief appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court. The Record revealed on Tuesday that the Subaru 4x4 - used by specialist paediatric teams - was stolen from outside an on-call medic's house. The £25,000 car was used to get paramedics quickly to critically ill children and was hailed as a godsend during last winter's snow. It was found burnt out in Paisley on Tuesday evening after disappearing from outside the house in nearby Johnstone, Renfrewshire. Halliday, 35, of Johnstone, appeared in private yesterday charged with stealing the vehicle. He was also charged with breaking into a house in the same street and stealing two sets of car keys, electrical items, two laptops, personal papers, bank cards and a number of NHS documents. Halliday made no declaration and the case was continued. The car was donated by Subaru through the Yorkhill Children's Foundation charity. It was used by Scotland's only two children's intensive care units, in Glasgow and Edinburgh. -------------

The missing vehicle, which is decked out with intensive care equipment, is clearly marked as a kids' ambulance and has flashing lights and sirens. Police confirmed it was taken from outside a house in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, overnight. It was found to be missing at 7am yesterday when the burglary in Thomson Avenue was discovered. The ambulance is used to get sick kids from all over Scotland to the country's two children's intensive care units in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The vehicle, operated by the NHS's Scottish Paediatric Intensive Care Transport Service, gets medical teams to sick children quicker than normal ambulances. Spring It came into operation in spring 2010 and it was a godsend for medics during last winter's big freeze. They managed to reach every patient even though Scotland was at a standstill. The Subaru was partfunded by a s35,000 donation to Yorkhill children's hospital from the McRae Vision Charity, founded in honour of late rally star Colin McRae. Dr Jim Beattie, of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's women's and children's services, said: "We are shocked and saddened. "It is hugely disappointing that someone would steal such a vehicle, especially as it is very clearly marked as a paediatric ITU vehicle. "If anyone has information about this vehicle, we'd urge them to contact the police." Yorkhill fundraising manager Mhairi Wotherspoon said the charity were "devastated" by the news.

Wasn't having a go Gus, just sometimes when things are posted up it is a case of "I wish I had known about this earlier". I know it is easy to sit back criticise when you are not involved. However, I think overall the new Committe have brought the club a long way in a short space of time, so keep up the good work. As for the BTCC, got my mate coming up from Yorkshire that weekend and we are planning to head up. Heading out on Saturday night to catch up though, so driving first thing Sunday isn't really on the cards and that will probably rule me out of being on a stand.

Christ, I don't come on here for one night and I miss all the excitement! My views for what they are worth are that if the guys on here are trying to organise a stand at the event, drum up interest etc, I think it is wrong to suggest that we all go along and support another club's stand. It it is decided that there will be no SIDC stand at the event, then yes, post a link to the .net thread about their stand to make everyone aware that option is there. Afterall, we all have the same interest, Subaru's, and I see no reason why there shouldn't be more than a litte crossover between the various clubs, be it with .net, ayrshirescoobs, dgscoobs etc etc. As for the whole .net thing, they toys have been out the pram on both sides. There was a particular thread a while ago on .net, which I ended up posting on, that did hurl a fair bit of abuse to this place. It is however always only a small minority on both sides who get upset and, I thought they toys have been long tidied away! Personally, I don't think the new .net forum when started, should have used the Scottish Scoobies name which was already established for this place. I browse on .net as well as on here, Scoobynet, AyrshireScoobs etc. Life is too short and for any threads or posts written with any malice on any forum, regardless where they are directed, I now just read and move on. I do find this place a bit last minute sometimes, and the whole BTCC stand thing is a prime example. The chance to have a stand at arguably Scotlands biggest motorsport event should perhaps have been posted up a long time ago to gauge members interest. I still enjoy ownership even though it is just second car now, I like the runs and 'pressing on', but never feel I am forced to drive out with my limits, and enjoy attending events to meet fellow owners. Afterall that is why we are all here is it not? Finally, I always find the surface of KFC carparks better for wheelspinning and donuts!

Happended to me. Admiral reduced my premium by £50 when I deactivated my tracker. They said that if my car (a 2002 WRX) is stolen, they don't want it to be found. It is easier and cheaper for them to write off as stolen and pay out. If it is found they might have to arrange recovery, pay for storage, repairs etc.

Not sure. I am along there a lot as my parents live in Cumbernauld. You can zip along when you know you won't pass a second camera before you exit! However, good news. You need to come off at the slip for the actual junction just before Old Inns. There is no longer any access directly between the Shell garage and the A80.

S&S do seem to have many happy customers. Unfortunatly, I am not one of them. It is a while since I have been in but I found them to be unhelpful, uninterested and they gave a good impression of not having the faintest clue what they were taking about.

When I had all my problems after whacking a kerb where the car decided to chew every brake disc I put on thereafter, I spent near on a £1000 at two different popular garages for them to bolt on brand new bits which didn't fix it. A combination of a hunch Terzo Neil had together with similar advice from Stevie at Scottish Subarus saw me get Scottish Subarus to change the hub carrier for a cheap second hand bit. The car has been right as rain ever since although I do expect to change the bearing in the 'new' hub carrier somewhere down the line as I have no idea of the history of the part. I wish I went go for the so called 'cheap' option right from the start.
