Crime Warning For Subaru Owners In Aberdeen
thefastone replied to scouk's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I've also heard folk mention removable Steering wheel boss too (Like the F1 Cars)... Although not sure if that would be a no-no for your insurance, I'm sure that I heard someone complaining about that before...? Anyone know about that? -

When using them in conjunction with an approved Cat1 Alarm/Immobiliser (Subaru Standard setup is covered if you have that fittted - Some older cars and imports dont) then something like that following would be a good supplement. Something like an autolock which hooks over your hand brake lever and locks your car in (3rd) gear: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...cm_vc=IOV4PDPZ1 Although, I'm not 100% sure that particular model would fit your car (Having not used one in years - I have used them before and they are good.) or a steering wheel lock: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...cm_vc=IOV4PDPZ1 or http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...cm_vc=IOV4PDPZ1 -
Thats a nice Video there too Al! WTF with the truck at the start though! I have to say, that I'm feeling the love more for this new one coming... not that I really dislike the hatch, I've started to come around to it, but its been a slow thing to happen, the new saloon I think is going back to where it belongs... There was always a hatch and a saloon along side each other, and often people have preference to one or the other, its just preference...

He Replied???? No ****ing way!!!!! That's awesome!!!!! And your right, he is really stupid... Clearly that Second Intercooler, whilst not connected, clearly gives more HP, on looks alone, never mind the extra weight, Who cares about the weight right, when you have mini Nos, you might as well be driving a fatboi newage!

Aye there's a thought, timing sucks a bit, you never know you might even have got soemthing out of it for the new business... Speaking of which, did you get your poster? You think that they might have one if they are a garage too?

In one sense, I'm agreeing with you Al, but in another.... not so much... It really depends on what you are willing to do when it comes to security, but just as long as you know that what ever you do, its not about stopping them dead, so much as slowing them down... Point in question,I seem to remember reading in a magazine somewhere that the criteria for a Cat1 Alarm/Immobiliser means that the criminals cannot make off with the car within a certain length of time as part of the test. (ie: they cannot make off inside 6 minutes for example giving more time for get caught) although I can't find anywhere to confirm that right now... Either way, A pro will get past your Cat1 alarm, and they will get past steering wheel locks, and gear shift locks, but the idea is to make it as hard as you can for them... the longer and harder that it will be for them to get in and away, the less likely they will A) Bother, or B ) That they can do it before they are caught... And to say that by putting a steering lock on your car... well, I see what your saying, by not fitting the extra security, your saying that its not worth anything... Well, that theory works fine for your garden shed, but everyone knows what an Impreza is... they know that they are desirable, and they are targeting them anyway. So if they see 2 Imprezas one with a steering lock, and one without, you think that they are going to go for the one with the steering lock, when the other is easier to get away with...? Path of Least resistance and all that... End of the day, its all down to the choice of the user, and what it's worth to you... if your happy that you have a cat1 security Which should feature a flashing red light for a start as a visual deterrent, then that's fine, but if your looking for piece of mind, then I don't think that investing in the extra devices will do you any harm... And its a very good bit of Advice from Al there too, that I can't stress enough, (Although rarely pay attention to myself) keep the car tidy inside, an opportunist is more likely to break in if they think that there is something worth stealing, even if it's just a carrier bag of rubbish, they wont know that till they are in!!! and when you consider that you can enter an Impreza in Seconds (Classics especially) without breaking anything, it means that the thieves can be gone in seconds too... -
Yeah weird on about the board layout there, it did that to me a while ago, no rhyme or reason... I'm seeing a growing trend in the board replies here... and I'd be very careful dealing with this garage mate, as I think that Gordi has a very good point there, they dont seem to have cared about messing you about up until now, and you have to remember that they only care about one thing, and that's the money that they have robbed off of you... I know what your saying about you should have that warranty, its a nice thought, but I'll be willing to bet you, that once your 3 months are up, (Warranty on used cars by law) they will turn round and tell you that its too late to give it back, then you'll be stuck with it... They are not going to extend what they are forced to give you by law, because lets face it, they already have your money... 7-8k is a lot of money to throw down the pan... But then if that end's up being the position that you end up in, then perhaps you'll get somewhere with Trading standards, or that ombudsman that Gus mentioned before, but its entirely possible that they will land on the side of the dealer and tell you that you had 3 months to give up on it, why didn't you do it before... Hope that it doesn't come to that, but there is always something better out there...

Attention All Aberdeen And Area Owners
thefastone replied to thefastone's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Well thats something Dave, as has been pointed out in the last few days, Trackers seem to be making insurance MORE expensive... I can't fathom that to be honest, especially when you have this kind of thing going on... -
I guess it all depends on what lots are on, if you are going to a specific auction then you can at least have a rough idea of what to expect...

Attention All Aberdeen And Area Owners

Good that your concerned, but all that you really need to do is to make sure that your security is working fine and that you keep the keys hidden somewhere when your not using it. Just a case of not making things easy for them. -
Indeed I would be inclined to agree there. but at the very least I would have been demanding at the very least a full tank of petrol from them... Just a thought though, but could the engine light be triggered by crap in the dregs of the fuel? (Seeing that your fuel light was on) Unleaded does not sit well for long periods...

Crime Warning For Subaru Owners In Aberdeen
thefastone replied to scouk's topic in Scottish Scoobies
bit of a weak story considering the press release that I just posted... -
Hey Folks, Just had the Chief reporter from the P&J on the phone to me there, and he tells me that Grampian Police have put out a press release this morning about The Spate of thefts in the Aberdeen Area. As follows: Issue Date: 10/06/2010 Client Reference: Client UID: 10-24-1 Advice for Subaru owners Subaru owners in Grampian are being warned by police to take extra security precautions. The warning comes after thieves have targeted 21 Subaru cars in Aberdeen since 1 January 2010. Of the 21 cars involved, nine were stolen. Eight of the cars have since been recovered. The other vehicles were either broken into or an attempt made to break-in to them. Sergeant Allan Heggie of Aberdeen Division Crime Reduction Unit said: "The majority of the Subarus being targeted are the Impreza model which, as it is quite a high performance car with good handling, is seen as being desirable among thieves. "Most of the models involved were first registered in the years 1994 to 1998. Many of these cars may have been imported to this country through dealers other than recognised Subaru dealers and as a result, some of them may not have the same standard of security fitted." "At least some of these vehicle thefts are believed to be linked and the investigation into these incidents is ongoing. Sgt Heggie added: "As always we would advise motorists, in particular owners of Subarus, to take proper steps to secure their vehicles. "This can be done by taking relatively simple and inexpensive car security steps such fitting additional visible security measures to their steering wheel or other vehicle parts or by installing a Thatcham approved alarm or an immobiliser." Further car security advice is available through the Grampian Police website at http://www.grampian.police.uk/Advice.aspx?...;34;24;82" Anyone with any information is asked to contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700 or if you wish to remain anonymous and your information is not urgent, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. ends Note to editors: The 21 incidents happened on the following dates and at these locations: Stolen Car– 14/01/2010 George Street 23/01/2010 George Street 04/05/2010 Seaton 04/05/2010 Ashgrove 02/06/2010 Middlefield 07/06/2010 Garthdee Break-in/attempted break-in or theft/theft of item(s)– 26/01/2010 Hanover (part of) 01/03/2010 Ferryhill 04/05/2010 Mastrick 04/05/2010 Mastrick 05/05/2010 Torry 12/05/2010 Seaton 13/05/2010 Froghall 19/05/2010 Torry 27/05/2010 Denmore 31/05/2010 Mastrick 01/06/2010 Balgownie 02/06/2010 Tillydrone 08/06/2010 Seaton 08/06/2010 Hilton Stay Safe, and if you've been putting off getting the security on your car sorted, then now might be the time to do it.
