Highland Fling banter thread-Hotel details added!

As a thought, for an alternative hotel, the Thistle is only across the road from the Snowgoose... I've stayed there a few times before and the rates can be very reasonable... -

If anyone is interested in Marshalling at this event, then can you get in touch with me, as I've been aproached by the ADMC looking for volunteers to marshal. I probably won't make it, because of work commitments.

As if the news didn't get any Worse, it would appear that this was indeed a member. It seems we have lost Spot2, who has been a member with us since 2008. RIP Graham.

Just seen the News on ITV, there was a bad crash last night on the A836 between Castletown and Dunnet, 2 guys in what looks like a blue new age with Gold wheels... The Car is a total mess, and I'd have been more surprised if they had survived. Turns out they hit a Bridge parapet, and went off the road... Not trying to put a damper on anyone, but just a little reminder that anyone can get it wrong, and when it does, bad things can and will happen... Don't know if anyone knows them, but the guys who lost their lives were named as Graham Scott(33) and Connor Craigy(17). Lets Keep it Black Side down!
-
I was indeed summoned... Can't say that I recognise the car though... The name may be familiar, but I can't think to be honest... I may well have seen it about, but there are so many scoobies up here, that actually remembering them all is a nightmare...
-
It's also because the WRX was a Grey Import and not a Parallel import... That has the knock on effect that should it need parts for a repair, they are generally considered by insurance companies to be harder/more expensive to get* and therefore your premium is more expensive. * Note: whether that is actually the truth doesn't matter, I believe it's a general rule of thumb on their part.
-
Really depends on what the car means to you, but if it was me, then I'd just stump up and continue to enjoy the car that I love... as it happens, there's a lot of work that my car is needing just now, it's going to cost a fair pack, but it'll be worth it in the end...

You just can't argue with Black and Red...

Hey man, Pretty certain I never got any email about it, I did get an email about a shop order, and I'd replied to that, but don't think that was yours. The stock has only just arrived in Scotland a few days ago due to courier and weather problems, so its being checked over, and then we can get straight onto despatching orders. Either way, can you e-mail me and Glyn with your order number and what you ordered, and well get it sorted for you. Cheers, Dale. Dale@sidc.co.uk Glyn@sidc.co.uk

Ha! I'd forgotten that I'd seen you on Union street! That had been a looooonnnnng day... Been drinking free beer since 11am, and never actually made it to eat after lunchtime... the Cheezeh burger was just not nearly enough! didn't even end up going into the place I was going either, just had a chat outside and went home... Nice! Oh and thanks for the fishes folks! Looking forward to what Blair has planned for us!
-
I certainly agree that it's so easy to use the online service! I always hated going into the post office to do the tax thing...
-
Curious, it's definitely been longer than that... perhaps that's when I became a paid member? but I was definitely on the board before that... I've had the turbo for 4 years, and the shed for 2 years before that... Anyways, ROs have always been on a volunteer basis, when I became RO, I just stepped forward and said that I would do it... I actually asked Blair if he fancied doing it, because I think that he will do a good job for the area, and I honestly believe that! You are always welcome to help out though Dunk! Speaking of which, I haven't seen you at any meets in well over a year... how you keeping?
-
Have you ever seen a vote for an RO? I never have in 6 years...
-
Evening boy and girls, with me now moving up to the committee, it's come time for me to step down as Aberdeen's RO. I wish to give my personal thanks To Blair for stepping up to the post of RO, I know that he is well liked in the area, and I have no doubts that he will be great for the local area! and finally, I'd like to give many thanks for your support for my time in the post, it's been a pleasure! :biggrinsanta:

You may even if you are really unsure, perhaps ask if someone nearby could come and look at it with you, that knows a bit more about the cars... Certainly that's what I did when I bought my first impreza in Elgin years ago, a 1.8 GL! One thing to check is rust, on the roof mainly, right behind the windscreen... I've had rusty roofs on both of my cars, and in fact, this one has actually started bubbling again... (Was resprayed a few years ago) But as above, just check around for oil leaks, in the engine, and also look under the back too to the rear diff for leaks (when you look under the car from the back, its the box with the drive shafts in the middle) Hope this helps in some way! As for membership. Should be some cool announcements comming really soon, and it might be worth waiting till then to join!

Thanks very much guys, just hope that we cna do everyone proud!

Police Tackle Dangerous Driving On Country Roads
thefastone replied to StrikE's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Holy Thread resurrection Batman!!!! I have to say though about the speed cameras, that I don't feel that they do any real good at all, except in a VERY VERY few cases, such as in towns, when speeding is inappropriate, but even then, you see the camera, you slow down if you are speeding, you pass the camera, you go back to speeding... OK, so where is the education in that? What exactly do you achieve by making a car slow down for 50 yards? Gennerally speaking, a lot of speed cameras, taking the Aberdeen - Dundee road as an example, are situated in places that are not accident blackspots, (except that patch of 50) they are generally located in big open stretches of road. and if anything, I think that they were causing more accidents as drivers would see them and suddenly brake! You can imagine what happens next... Whilst I don't know if these accidents happen so often these days, for various reasons, people just give them the wide berth and carry on what they were doing before... As just said, no need to imagine, it was better before they were introduced, because you would always see the cops on the road EVERY time you traveled on it, and if you were being naughty, then you got a talking to, you were educated... a tin box can't do that... -
cheeky Barstewards! Yeah, lap it up, you don't see it like that very often!

Aberdeen monthly meet, perhaps the final local meet of the year as we head into the festive season. Come and join the gang at Zara in Dyce, for a few drinks and something to eat if you fancy it. And of course a catch up with friends! :kerstsmiley: Zara is a bar/Restaurant located in Dyce, Mainly serving Indian food, but also has a reasonable European range too, for anyone who isn't a fan of curry! The Venue also has a large car park, so there's no problem about parking. When you get onto Burnside road, just turn off at the sign for the Travelodge, as they share the same entrance.
