  1. I would have thought he means driveshafts.
  2. Surely that won't fit the MY00 bumper as its designed for pre facelift. You would probably be better off with the STI6 one (if you do I know where you can get a proper Subaru OEM one for £125 new).
  3. Just fill to the full point on the dipstick. Doesn't sound good that you have been running with so little that it doesnt touch the stick... fingers crossed for you! Oil should be 75w-90 I believe.
  4. Ok so i fitted the usual three gauges about 3weeks ago with no problems what so ever. Now my boost gauge needle has started to shake about as it climbs and then shakes erractically between 10-13psi peak. Now the car is 100% fine its the gauge or fitting thats doing this... So i have refited and sealed the joining parts up again making sure the two ends of the pipe are not leaking. Its still doing it! Its got to be a leak right? Perhaps in the gauge itself or the actual pipe somewhere I cant see? Has anybody had this happen before where its been a gauge fault? I'm getting a bit miffed as I spent £180 on the gauges rather then £60 so that they would be good quality. Cheers, FMJ
  5. Having a visible disc also means the bobby on the beat (yes there are still some) can whack a CLE26 (reporting to DVLA for no disc) form on the car if its dumped or parked up. A good way of identifying abandoned vehicles and after spotting no tax disc it means you have a good reason for checking if the car is insured over the radio.
  6. Yeah thanks guys I think after looking into this I will be going with Bob. Can I contact him direct or do I have to go through RCM?
  7. Nice one matey, I have heard good things about power station but never realised they were that close (only 80 odd miles).
  8. Hi guys, I am looking at getting a remap for my UK Turbo MY00. I was advised a while ago that Bob Rawle in Swindon was the man I needed. Has anybody here had any mapping done by him? And where in swindon is he based? I want somebody to get a good 240-250bhp if possible but without pushing the engine too far (i dont want to compromise reliability). Any other recommendations of mappers in Wiltshire are also welcome. Cheers, FMJ
  9. If you want aerosols then yes Halfords do mix them for you if you cant get the colour off of the shelf. However.... the paint they mixed for my last car was completely the wrong shade and it cost £10 a can! Other then that its quite hard to get aerosols mixed for you as most paint companies use 2 part paints and compressors etc... But there is a place that will make them up and send them to you in the post. The company is called Abbacus and its in Bournemouth. 01202 761100 They charge £10 per meduim can and can mix up any colour you want, just give them your paint code. I have ordered cans for my previous car and for my scooby and everytime they have been 100% spot on. To do the skirts and corner splitters you will need 3 cans maybe even 4 if you make any mistakes or need to to a few more coats. By the time you have spent £15-20 on a couple of cans of primer and another £15 on laquer plus some glass paper etc you will be up to about £70. I think most good value bodyshops would charge around £150 to do it so the choice is yours. I was going to do mine myself but I have had enough of spraying things to be honest its a fair bit of hassle and I end up with blue snot for days lol, so its off to the bodyshop.
  10. Lol don't be offended. Just what I have noticed and im sure because the majority of mums who have a wagon because its a nice practical estate don't really know or care that it's got a massive following due to it winning the WRC a few times and being a performance car icon.
  11. I would say I get waves from 75%. The most unpopular are women driving wagons... understandably most probably don't realise. I must admit I have missed a few waves back its just sometimes your concentraiting on the car in front and just as you notice the wave its too late when you going 60mph each way. I would say classics give the most waves in my experience but maybe thats as a drive a classic. Had a flash from a newage behind me the other day after I blipped the hazards which was nice.
  12. I was reading a thread yesterday and one of the google ads was "Descrete STI testing" lol.
  13. Most Officers won't know what decatting is let alone how many you should have, believe me lol. People assume the Police know everything. Of course some will and a traffic unit is definately goingh to sus it. Any large flames are going to get you pulled just because it looks dodgy/unsafe.
  14. I chose Deep Mica Blue.... why? I wanted WR blue but A. I couldnt get a late UK spec classic in WR blue and B. I was too impatient to wait around for one and needed a car ASAP. So DMB was the closest I could get to the rally car and now Im glad as when the bright sunlight hits the panels its changes to a much more vivid colour and looks great. I would have had white or black to.
  15. Idle problem may be idle control valve, be warned these are not cheap (or at least on the MY00 model they arent) I recently replaced it and the the MAF sensor to cure a crap idle and revs dropping when putting the clutch in while slowing down. I believe the ICV was around £230 and the MAF £80. Can you not get them to fix the idle problem too? I wouldn't be happy with anything but a matching set of four tyres but as long as they are all in good conition and are not horribily cheap you should be ok unless you pushing it in the wet... The wheel paint was either bubling or pealing on all the classics I looked at and even on my car that was six years old with only 58,000m it had started.... Other then that welcome and enjoy!
  16. Thanks chaps, all seems well today. I had the wheel off and its all fine to look at. I will get the tracking checked next week to to be sure (the check is free anyway). Now the only problem is that i took off five wheel nuts and I could only find four to go back on! I left them on my drive while i went inside and one went missing.... don't think anybody would have knicked just one and there were tools and the wheel laying there too untouched. I have looked over the drive over and over and nothing. Maybe a very strong magpie? Looks like i will be ordering a nut from subaru tomorrow as well as the trim fastners that were broken.
  17. On my way home from work at about 1:45 this morning doing 80mph over taking on a daul carridge way when all of a sudden there is a great big wheel (like a truck wheel) laying on the drivers side in the road. It was way too quick to avoid and as i was overtaking there was nowhere to go anyway... So BANG i hit it. I pulled over straight away and there is a rubber scuff to the botton of the bumper, the bumper has come away from the arch slightly and the wheel acrh liner was touching the wheel. I managed to poke the liner back into place and could see no damage to wheel, suspension on underside of car. On the way home i have tested the brakes which work fine, there is no vibration or any wierd noises. On looking closer with a torch the suspension all looks ok. I have gone around the car park on full lock either way, as well as a roundabout to make sure things still felt ok and touch wood its all good. I will take the wheel off tomorrow and have a better look around but can anybody give me advice on anything I can do to ascertain if anything is damaged that I cant see? Still a bit shaken up... just goes to show these random things do happen. It was lucky it was a glancing blow. Im sure if i had hit it square on it would have lodged under the car and probably caused an accident, and at 80mph some injury to me and others not to mention a write off. What I want to know is where is the large vehicle with a wheel missing! and WTF was it doing left on a dual carridge way!
  18. Yep i use the "blip the acclerator" method between changes just to take the jolt out of the transmission.
  19. Yeah they are designed to be like that. Like the After burner vortex it comes in angled exit or straight.
  20. The whole sceme is about pricing people off the roads! So only the wealthy can afford to drive! Makes me furious just thinking about it. Of course not so well off people have no reason to drive... Don't they realise the reason we all use the roads at rush hour is because....... THATS WHEN WE HAVE TO GO TO WORK FFS!!! A very small percentage of people drive about just for something to do, we all need to be places other then where we live! As for public transport and using a bike, i live 15miles from work, the buses run from 8am once every hour to 6pm.... That would take me 14miles to the bus station where i would need the get on another bus to go 8miles costing about £12 a day and taking about an hour each way!. Rather then getting in the car and driving for 15miles taking 20mins. Plus why should I have to sit on a bus with various smelly and strange people?! I have paid £6000 for a car, £50 an mot, £2000 insurence, new tyres, brakes, bulbs, petrol, tax on petrol, tax on labour, tax on parts, £175 road tax WTF! How on earth can they want me to pay more just to drive my car to work and back!!!!!!!!! How about we bin it all, give some money once a year to look after the roads and then they F*ck Off and LEAVE ME ALONE! Anyway will stop there before i burst a blood vessel or something.
  21. The subscription is to use the website to download new locations and remove old ones. So if you dont subscribe you have to make do with the ones that are on it out of the box (which is sometimes a bit out of date). I have a Road angel 2 from Halfords, it cost me £200 and seems fine. Its wasnt actually on display, as they had the wireless one on display for £300 but when i asked for a whole £100 less you could have it with a wire to the cig lighter. It comes with 6 months subscription free and then its not much to subscribe anyway. Its very tidy with only one black wire which you can tuck into the dash edge making installation very neat. It does all fixed cameras and mobile as well as black spots and schools. I have turned schools off as it goes off too much and i have also turned the voice off (its annoying) and put speed camera alerts on as single beep. If you leave the voice on it says "ROAD ANGEL" when you turn it it which is a tad tacky. So far its been pretty good with no false alerts. I will mention the mobile camera detector function on all units isnt great. It will work but only if the beam hits the sensor if the beam just hits the number plate (as is aimed for usually) it will not sound the alarm. You can fit a sensor to the plate but they have already got you anyway by the time the thing picks it up. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can fit one and then not worry about being caught.... It makes fixed cameras very easy to avoid when your on roads you dont know but dont put too much faith in mobile detection.
  22. There are several Subaru Garages that offer mail order and give a 10% SIDC disscount. I am also in the situation where the nearest is about 40miles away so go for mail order from Simpsons Subaru of Swindon. Any Subaru parts you are after can be ordered on 01793 767002. I think postage is usually about £5.
  23. Well I like mine 0-60 is under 6 seconds and top speed around 155mph. (I think the book figures are about 6.2secs and 144mph but these are a bit reserved) Power is 215bhp (on the latter ones) about the same amount of torque. But the best thing about them is the amount of grip! The latter classics (99-00) are the best with nicer interior, much nicer seats and better brakes and Cat1 alarm but the earlier ones are no bad things at all. Check out fully comp insurence, on my qoute tpft and fully comp was only about £100 difference and its the difference between losing everything if you write your car off or being covered. Get down to a local second hand car lot and try one out, there are plenty about and if you come across as serious about bying it (even if your not) you can blag a test drive.
  24. Pretty sure a UK turbo is 17, not that the group really means all that much. If you have a williams clio already then you are used to high insurence so I'm sure you won't be too shocked.
  25. I was 21 when I insured my UK Turbo. £2000 for two years driving experience and 1 years ncb, no points and kept on driveway. If you have been driving since you were 17 and have a few years ncb then you may get away with £1500 but its not going to be much cheaper then that i wouldn't have thought. Dont forget most insurers wont insure under 25's on imports.
