paulc555 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 hi all after reporting the fault with the car the other night, it was indeed the idle control sensor that has gone. but unfortunately after i get this fixed the car will have cost me the guts of £2k since I got it last Nov all for faults and not normal wear and tear....so I think my time with Scoobydom may be coming to an end....I simply cant believe how much parts cost for this car...and frankly I'm not prepared to spend any more on it after this..... will keep you all posted... cheers Paul
4Hero Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 nightmare mate, it doesn't matter how much you look after your scoobie, when they get to a certain age they cost big time [] good luck [Y]
st3ph3n Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Don't give up Paul. It'll get better, and when it does work think of how good it is.
david_taylor Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Paul Sorry to hear this....hopefully its just a passing thought. Its unusual for such a run of bad luck. But hopefully thats the end of it if you keep the car. Perhaps the previous owner did not look after it, and hence why its had so many faults. Anyway, hope you change your mind mate.
G.T. Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 thats a bummer paul you aint had much luck at all. im sure once its fixed and youve been for a blast again all will be well. i dont think theres another car to match them out there that is why we are all so forgiving of them when they break
gus the bus Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Dont do it Paul! you will only regret it. Just ask Rallye 6 how long he lasted without a scooby!!!!! You will come to your senses mate. Its hard when you pay out so much but you'll only change it for problems of another kind. Stick in there bud! Gus
philip_wilson Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Don't give up yet m8 I know howyou feel I had a similar problem with my very first Scooby just keep spendingmoney on repairs and got feed up and sold her, later found out the guy thatbought it never had to spend a penny on repairs and he kept it 5 years the bugger.Always light at the end of a tunnel.
oz *sti* Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 sorry to hear the bad news mate I hope you don't have to get rid of the car, fingers crossed that is the last bit of money you will have to spend on the car in a good while.
oobster Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Sorry to hear you've been having porblems with the car bud, but i'd also recommend hanging on in there for a wee while more.
doorman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Your MAD! Two grand in and you want to sell up.I recon you have just about weatherd the storm!
paul_honthy Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Stick with it mate.In less than a year Ive had the g/box , idle control valve, MAF, coil pack, & Lamba sensor all pack in.Its total brain damage but as Doorman says you've weathered the worst now so enjoy it after all the tears and frustration !
TSL 333 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Probably everyone on here has had the same thoughts at some stage, albeit not with a scoob. Mine costs a fortune on the loan and a fortune on fuel (for my boss as I have a fuel card.) At the end of the day though, they are worth every penny. Let's just hope you do not realise this when it's too late. Let's face it, they are expensive and we must always be prepared and have a few bob set aside for repairs.
fai17 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 You could pay 2 grand in any car for faults......must be just bad luck...... If it's that bad why don't you get a newer car with warranty for piece of mind
dougster Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Poor excuse. Who told you Subarus were cheap to maintain? Another RO without a scoob............... I might need to buy one at this rate.
paulc555 Posted July 22, 2006 Author Posted July 22, 2006 it aint gone yet.... my good friend Grant may come to the rescue..... its not me that wants rid...it must be said....i will do anything to save her
the squiggle Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I touch goats boss GordyQ is the one to thank, i just remembered through the Tobagan haze that Gordy had a spare UK300 manifold. I would have said you should have kept the STI3 but it sh1t itself a day after you sold it
yogibear Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 hi all after reporting the fault with the car the other night, it was indeed the idle control sensor that has gone. but unfortunately after i get this fixed the car will have cost me the guts of £2k since I got it last Nov all for faults and not normal wear and tear....so I think my time with Scoobydom may be coming to an end....I simply cant believe how much parts cost for this car...and frankly I'm not prepared to spend any more on it after this..... will keep you all posted... cheers Paul If you think the scooby is bad, try a LAND ROVER now they are bad??? My old man is tearing his hair out, and he's the most patient person in the world. I think the old saying of JAPENESE is reliable is BULL SH*T Sorry to here you've had enough, but remember this, they are all the same now.......
wrxmania Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I have ALWAYS found Japanese cars to be reliable - a LOT of questions are asked of an Impreza on the road - it is no surprise that sometimes they bite back. Mine was bombproof for 3 years - can't ask for any more. Nothing to beat a well built Jap car for reliability as any mechanic will no doubt tell you. Brian []
yogibear Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I've lost count how many times my Toyota Yaris has been back to the dealer. These Japenese cars are no more reliable than any other make now.
wrxmania Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Just poor luck I reckon - my wife's Yaris was bombproof in 3 years of owning it. Her Rav has also had not a thing fixed in it - much like all my Toyota's in the past.
paulc555 Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 I touch goats Gordy... Grant sent you a new message.... I think the fault may have cleared....but I dont know if it can or not???? Paul
david_taylor Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I touch goats Gordy... Grant sent you a new message.... I think the fault may have cleared....but I dont know if it can or not???? Paul Might be a chance that you had crap in the bottom of your fuel tank. Especially as you said you left it sitting for 2 weeks with hardly any fuel. I would run it for a couple of days and see if its sorted! Dave
G.Mac Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Paul, mine cleared its self after 2 or 3 hrs of driving but the fault code remained, you should be ok. Poss something to thinkabout for the yearly servicing cleaning the idle control valve Graeme
