lewisscoob Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 And at the end of the day its better for all to let the priverbial just lie +1
badbaz Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Ok chaps, this is not relevant and airing other club's dirty laundry on here is not necessary - keep it to yourselves please or your posts will be removed without warning or explanation.
BLOB EYE Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Accepted without prejudice if clean up is required.
GORDYSTI Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Your account is not deleted Gordy, Its still on the forum, You are banned, I sent you a PM saying how i got you wrong then found out that you were more than being the keyboard warrior on cssc. again, this is not SIDC business and i apologise on behalf of CSSC for their users coming on SIDC to continue trolling when they have my direct email and can contact me about anything. Its lorraine that has had the brunt of it as i banned her account through no fault of her own so that you do not use it for access although i know you have both been down to gordies to look with his, or at least thats what you told him you would do Your right Eddie I shouldn't have brought this over here onto sidc!!! But as for apologies on behalf of CSSC there is no need!!! My post directed at you was just that MY POST not cssc's!!!! This is the last time I will correspond with you on here out of respect to the rest of the sidc members!!!!
BLOB EYE Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 then baz or another mod should clean up as he see's fit
Guest Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 This threads shite hahahahhaa Kidding. Nice to hear from you gee
StrikE Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 This is doing nobody any favours either personally or whichever club! I don't really see the point in keeping this going or for that fact removing it as yet. All relevant points have been aired, discussed & answered. Now can the 'over moderation' brigade please step forward and have a bash & view their own personal agenda instead of lighting the blue touch paper & pissing off? Another point, the Mods on here [and there are a few with the rights] don't just randomly delete topics or posts without going over the topic in depth! Please guys it's a bloody car club, drive a car or something eh!
amccan10 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I was a member on here for a bit but stopped using the site as this forum is not particularly active. Therer's a lot more activity on scottish scoobies which helps with meets etc. That being said I've never attended a meet, can't be arsed hanging about a car park. For the comments that ss is just for neds, what a load of bollocks. I've met quite a few of the members through buying parts etc and most are terrific.
Guest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I think having now looked in depth at this thread that there is a lesson here...... People should take more of an active interest and post more often on this site. Its like a ghost town ! whats the point of having a forum if no one uses it? A- were scared to post incase we look silly asking about FMICs B- we want to pay money and just get 10% off a service eevery year C- we like to just watch the lights and pictures D- something else Theres 25 odd people now attending a run yet threads hardly move or update from one day to the next unless its controversial. Seems odd

Guest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Give me a shout when it's boring as watching goats dry and ill come back for some spice
GORDYSTI Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 At the end of the day guys a forum is only as good as the members on it I.e you get back what you put in!!!!!! There will be quiet or dry spells on any forum but when the suns shining and the roads are dry any scooby owner in my experience seems to come to life a bit more than when it's pissing down or too cold to go out and wash the car!!! So I don't think sidc has anything to panic about!!!
arch Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I don't really see the point in keeping this going or for that fact removing it as yet. All relevant points have been aired, discussed & answered. Answer i·ro·ny 1 [ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-] Show IPA noun, plural i·ro·nies. 1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend. 2. Literature. a. a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated. b. (especially in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., especially as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion. 3. Socratic irony. 4. dramatic irony. 5. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected. Now can the 'over moderation' brigade please step forward and have a bash & view their own personal agenda instead of lighting the blue touch paper & pissing off? Answer Care to elaborate on this? I have no personal agenda and do not even know many of the people on this forum now. I posted my thoughts as part of the thread but seems that you have just given a classic example of exactly what I was suggesting!
Guest Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Arch wrote much tripe about not a lot using larger words than most. Some felt overwhelmed and inferior, offering no reply. Some realised he works for the clenny and pointed it out. Bolt
jae Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 (edited) Hey Guys and Girls, just thought I would put my 2ps worth to this never-ending discussion. I am on impreza no 2 in 8 years when I got my first classic it had a problem and googled forums, SIDC came up so I registered and asked my question. As with most technical questions you end up with half a dozen possible answers and eventually got sorted out. Those that replied were helpful and I was happy. (condensed version). As time went on I did begin to find that it is very cliquey and watching the Was It You forum was never "spotted" (I must be really unlucky as I have done really quite a bit of running around now in 8years and 2 cars and still never been spotted ) Our local club grew and got nice and busy, we had 30 cars for a run, but as with most things a power shift changed things and it went downhill after that to being practically non-existent now. Attitudes change circumstances change but what has pushed me away from the forums, I am registered on .net also, is.... life... I suppose kids, work, dreaded DIY, money worries, car blowing up. Hopefully things are on the change now..... My advice would be be less cliquey, I understand folks want to have a laugh with their mates but if a topic is 6 pages long and 5 of those pages are pals taking the p.i.s.s out of each other then anyone looking for info is going to get fed up and go elsewhere. I recently posted about the UK300 headlights and it has had 126 views and G1983 is the only one to offer anything. Really? no one has, experience.... advice.... any input at all? (I have been chatting to KennyUK about it, and unfortunately for him he will be my go to guy ) This isn't a complaint merely an observation. But baring in mind this was my first port of call for advice knowing that most folks on here are helpful and knowledgeable. I know I don't think I have made a point (oxymoron there I think) and now I am rambling.... Edited August 10, 2013 by jae
ccrien Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 (edited) From above:"my advice would be be less cliquey, I understand folks want to have a laugh with their mates but if a topic is 6 pages long and 5 of those pages are pals taking the p.i.s.s out of each other then anyone looking for info is going to get fed up and go elsewhere. " Well said there. Good observations all round. Lack of replies to technical stuff is even more pronounced if ithe question is related to a non turbo version. cliquey stuff should be handled on Facebook or whatever and leave SIDC for Subaru related stuff, specific or general, but not personal insults / stuff the rest of us don't get, or cliquey Edited August 10, 2013 by ccrien 1
thebigfelly Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 This one time at band camp This one time..in a harvester hillington car park wee winston.....
scooby222 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 ok so half the complaints on here are about it being too cliquey, in jokes from people who know each other and those who dont feeling left out and the other half is complaints from people about there not being enough banter and piss taking like there used to be in the good old days? sounds to me like damned if you do damned if you dont....... The heart of the whole problem is people dont have the time, money or will power to get out to meets all the time - sidc was always driven by meets and runs and the online banter and busyness came from people having met at meets and knowing each other SIDC is a drivers club for driving and getting out, not for keyboard warriors - look at the major events it attends, .net, ayrshirescoobs, aberdeen scoobs are all good forums but I dont see them attending rallyday, japfest, JAE etc or running their own trackdays regularaly - THATS where we are different and if you dont like that well you cant please all of the people all of the time, just ask anyone who's married..... 1

Their opinion was to get stuck in, so I did, and now I miss some of the humour, but the more I read, the more I join the dots... Its a case of theres a lot of 'old timers' ('old' as in the internet form, not real life, its substantially shorter), who yes, have their private jokes, but there's nothing stopping anyone joining thats 'clique'. Its a forum-wide group, just you need to listen before speaking and try not to feel alienated by that. "Two ears and one mouth," so goes the saying, "so you should listen twice as much as you talk."
oj 89 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 just ask anyone who's married..... Nail. meet Head.

Completely agree. just get stuck in. If your not getting the joke then just ask what its all about. Sure someone one have a laugh remembering about the reason and explaining it. yes theres awkwardness etc going to a first meet etc. But just strike up convo with someone. Latch on and ask questions and listen . Im not an old timmer on the forum compared to some .only been here 3 years roughly . You want an awkward tough first meet/event? my first meet/event i was scoobless and it was the classic car show at bridge of alan. Having never met anyone or realy chatted and not knowing who anyone was real name or user name.and only having been on the forum a few weeks. I expressed intrest in going to the bridge of alan but was scoobless. An unknown person who i had never met or chatted with said "il take you if you wana go" that member was midnight. Who i didnt even know. She offered to pick me up and take me along to the show . About a 40-50 min drive in a strangers car who i had knew nothing about. Hmmm sit in silence the whole way there feeling awkward or just try to make convo. Asking about her car. What kind.how long owned. How long she had been a member . What the events were like. How long she had the car etc. Any random chat We get to the service station where everyone was meeting. Davie.gus baz.tam brian etc. Everyones sat round the table we walk in cathy says hi every and this is paul/bigfelly. Everyone says hi then goes back to chatting. i coule have A -just sat there or B - Tried talkin and making myself known asking their forum name snd what car is theirs parked out front. I go for option B and have a few little random chats with complete strangers still having some odd awkward silences and 2min pauses . We get there and i jsyt try getin stuck in helping put the stand up or holding stuff not realy havin a clue. And feelin a bit odd but still askin people stuff and them coming and talkin to me and making convo. had a fab day got some great pics. Things progressed from There i went to more meets . Got more active on the forum rather than just looking and not posting. There was some private jokes in posts on the forum and im reading thinking wtf? Dnt get it. So what do i do. Just ask what it meant and what it wS about. Someone would then repky saying this happened this time to such and such so is now a runing joke and this gets said or they get called XYZ for it. 3 years on im still here and have met many great helpful people who have helped me tons with advice and work with my motor and also stuff non csr related.and i have made many fantastic memorys and id like to say folk id consider friends and be wilking to help in anyway i can also. point of this wee story i suppose is that first day and meet . I could have sat back.let people talk in their groups with their inside jokes and came home and thought why bother going to another thing like that . And i wouldnt have everything ive experienced or enjoyed these 3 years or got to know the people i do.so now if i see someone new at an event il introduce myself if their existing longterm members on the forum il tell them my user name and theyl be like of aye the spammer all my posts. if its someone completely new and first event .i remeber what i was like on my first one and try spendin more time with them introducing them and explaining who folk are and talk about the club etc to make them feel welcome. so just get stuck in chat away . Everyones been in the same position of not knowing anyone and their first event /meet/run. Be chaty ask questions no mater how daft you think it is and get in on the humour and the jokes. 1
