  10. LOL Hi there and welcome - and welcome to the world of scooby ownership and its potential minefield! As for a 'bad' model well how has the car been looked after - unfortunatley because the Impreza is a performance icon it can be driven like one! However this is not a bad a thing providing it has been well looked after. We just sold our v4 classic with 110,000 well looked after, serviced properley and still going strong. One of our friends is still running hers with 170,000+ miles. Again well maintained and looked after. At the end of the day it is a still a car and no more 'dangerous' than any other vehicle to purchase. Check for mileage, service history, HPI, big folder full of receipts for work carried out etc... this i am sure you know. I would also check what you can afford to insure. This is no way a definitive statement but more a rough guidline but my model understanding is as follows; Impreza comes with a turbo as a STi or WRX and non turbo as a Sport or GX this certainly applies to the newage cars blob eye v6/7 2001 to 2002, bug eye v8 2003 to 2005, hawk eye v9 2005 to 2007 and the very new hatchback v10 2007 to now. Prior to the bug eye you have the classics and looking at your adverts and i assume your budget you would be looking for a v4 '97 to '98 or the 'facelift' v5 '98 to '00. With the classics i do not think the UK cars came as an STi as this is Subaru's 'tuning' motorsport arm and would only apply to an import prior to 2000/2001. UK spec cars came as a WRX Turbo. Nothing wrong with an import, arguable a better machine than a UK car but as an import your pay heavily in the insurance. All the above applies to standard cars. There is a massive 'tuning' scene and many cars are modded. Again nothing wrong with this if its mods you like and you can see bills and invoices and can talk to the people that have done the work. However i am sure over time you will get the bug and want to add something here and there so if you do get a modded car make sure it is a mod you want other wise will you be throwning money away. As be under no illusion running an Impreza is not cheap. So do your homework and set aside a monthly budget and i am sure you still be grinning after years of ownership. Why not come down to a show? Say Hi and have chat ... just give us any excuse to talk about our cars
  11. eagle eyes .... well spotted sir EBC groved and drilled discs on the front with EBC red stuff cereamic based pads as offered by Scoobyworld. I had heard the standard brakes were pretty poor and not knowing anything about the EBC setup i was concerned we'd be adding a brake upgrade to list of mods. But no this is a very good setup and looking at the cost of the parts not that expensive.
  12. 2003 ... collecting tomorrow (Saturday) Needless to say Rach and myself are really excited and looking forward to welcoming the new member to our family Tax disc and mud flaps collected today, stereo fitting next week with a trip to paint shop for a quote on the usual stone chips on the front end. Already got the stickers for the doors etc... ... and if i am allowed there may be some suspension modifications to follow ... but best pay for the R first though ... pictures to follow
  13. Hi there I have a '99 Type R and although the clock goes round to 8k there is no way i'd wind it up that far - maybe just me but i a, happy to change at 6-7k if i am hoofing it. Cannot comment on 'revvy' but i think the EJ20 is more revvy than a EJ25 - but i think other factors like turbo and intercooler play a part with that. As for ratio the JDM cars (Type R and RA) have the closer ratio box - the P1 certainly had a longer 5th not sure about the other gears though. I think most here will confirm i'd be at 4k at 80mph in my R where as a P1 would be at 3.5k. As for weight the P1 and Typer are identicle machines in spec and weight except the P1 got ABS and plusher seats so this could add some extra weight although the P1 lost the DCCD control. Both have electric windows and mirrors (these are folding on my R not sure if they fold on a P1) and air con so all in all there is probably not much weight difference. If its weight saving your after then you want a RA - but lose all the electric stuff and the aircon.
  14. OMG i just checked the date of the original post ... has it been that long!!!!! Well just got a mail from Paul and he has the block back all machined and ready to go. It is getting a clean today and rebuild work starts tomorrow.
  15. yeah it was a bit of a shock seeing a big engine size hole with nothing in it Well work has begun blco is good, valves are in - Paul showed me the crank and how much play there was on the big end with the shot bearings ... no wonder it sounded like a cement mixer. Still got at least 3 weeks work to go so no 'R' for Scooby ball but Rae and myself and LGG will be there.
  16. been to Zen to get the R back today .... certainly a little lighter than when i dropped him off but not as quick as i would have liked wonder why?............................... perhaps i need to give Paul some more money ...
  17. Just to give you all a quick update on the state on my R December last year some muppet drove in to me on the M1, spun me off and i ended up on the embankment. Well after a 9 week wait he was finally rebuilt, sprayed, repaired etc... at the end of February. I collect him the day before my track day at Brands Hatch .... Parked up after Brands then went to the MLR 30-130 8 days later and promply blew the engine up after a 135mph run up the airstrip ..... ooops Trailered to Zen and there he has sat until Paul could find some time towards end of May to take a look at the rather 'rattly' engine. Well good to his word Paul sent over the 'quote' (gulp .....) last week and Tuesday this week the engine was lifted and partially stripped. Paul sent me a mail confirming it was a 'big end' failure and work had started. So since the 19th December i have driven my 'R' on only 2 occasions - admitably very memorable occassions (Brand Hatch track day and MLR 30-130 day) but to say i am missing my Scooby is understatment of the year.... ! Thank you everyone that has asked after the well being of my 'R'. I am really hoping he will taking us to the Scooby ball at end of June if not first show out will be Uxbridge in July.

  20. I just wanted to share some of my happiness with you lot .... I have met some great people through the SIDC and formed some really good friendships. One in particular has developed into much much more I have been going to shows for a while now with 'Little Green Goblin' and we have become good friends. But we both realised we were in the 'wrong' relationships with our partners. So if you see us any shows together we are not having an 'illicit' affair, we are together and are both very happy about it. So get yourself an Impreza, join the SIDC and who know what else you may get for your membership. Kaz, iam not sure if this can be offered as 'membership benefit' though To you Rae for making me a very happy guy. X
  21. see you all at Tescos can i have someones mobile just in case - thanks Nige
  22. I to have my insurance with Keith Michaels and also have taken the road side recovery option In the last 4 months i have unfortunatley had to use this recovery service twice - once from the side of the motorway and again from Marham - both times a flat bed turned up and both times i was not charged any extra for the service (the trip from Marham to Zen was approx 60-70 miles anf took over 2 hours!) I did not need to ask for the flat bed as this info was known by the recovery company
  23. i am getting this fitted to mine as a few on here have recommended them I also got a ride round Brands in a classic with them fitted .. this made my mind up there and then other alternatives i was thinking about were AST and Ex-TC but both cost considerably more and for what i want my car for i am sure the BC setup will do the job very nicely
  24. hi mate and welcome not 100% sure but could 'google' for that info http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/mod...car/?car=105963 I think standard around 225 bhp and with PPP some where around 260 ish As for 0-60 i hazard a guess around 5-7 seconds Standard STi supposedly got there in about 5
  25. well done got round to starting this project, good man ... see you did not want to sell that engine after all looking forward to seeing the end results
