  1. Not a fan of that at all. Hopefully the STi version looks a lot better. People say that other shapes have grown on them but that's (IMO) down to the fact that you can trace the shape of the latest ones right from the first ones. They have evolved. Even the Bug eye ones are much and such the same shape as the rest albeit with a different front end. The new one there though is such a change of look that it will take quite a while to get used to it (if at all). I understand the need for a hatch in WRC but why couldn't they have come out with a new smaller model alongside the Impreza to run in the WRC, that way the road car could have purely been an STi version without any humdrum family models in the line up.
  2. I managed close to 290bhp on a UK94 at Star as well. Only Decat, induction kit and Dawes Device but still had the original fuel cut limit so probably only boosting to about 14.5 at the most (I know it was cold that day 'cos I had to turn it down on the way down the road 'cos I hit the fuel cut a couple of times).
  3. I had to swap the suspension on the old scoob I had 'cos the OE stuff leaked... I hadn't really noticed it getting worse and put down the slightly iffy handling to tyres/road conditions. By the time I had it looked at there was next to no fluid left in one and the other dodgy one was half empty too. Would definitely recommend getting it swapped ASAP (or repaired if possible?). Maybe someone who's changing their OE stuff for something better will be able to flog/give you their old stuff?
  4. You are welcome come and clean and/or spend money on mine if you want [] Like someone else said, don't worry about "what if's", etc. if kids come along you may need to get shot of it but you may not. Everyone thought I would get shot of my old wagon when my first kid came along but we kept it for a good few years after that, and now I'm back in a scoob again after being away from one for a couple of years.
  5. That would be the only reason that I personally would upgrade to a car that was only a couple of years younger (although I have the STi now anyway). Better spending the money on mods if you want to than spending it getting a younger car that will still depreciate. Only other reason would be if you had issues/problems with he existing one that were going to get expensive (or time consuming) to sort out.
  6. I'd keep your existing car and with the money you have "saved" spend it on modding it even further [] I do like red on a scoob (couldn't get it on my new one though 'cos they don't do ST's in red []) Seriously though why change for something that's only marginally newer but essentially the same as what you have?
  7. Yeah, watching it at my folks at the moment and as ew're well out in the countryside we're getting a real good view of it... unfortunately as we're not at home I don't have my camera with me... typical.
  8. I raised the boost on my old UK94 wagon up to ~14-14.5psi (think it runs 11psi as std) which was just low enough to stay under the std fuel cut. I did it using a Dawes device, just had to remember and drop it back down a bit during the winter months as it would try and boost higher (and hit the FC). Ran it like that (plus an induction kit) for a few years with no issues at all, the MAFs on the earlier cars are stronger than the ones on the 96-2000 I believe (or is it 98-2000?). Raising the boost (plus the full decat) made a huge difference to the way it drove.
  9. Anyone got any clips of exhausts on 06 models (STi if poss)? ...and I said I wasn't going to do anything to this one for a long time... :-)
  10. Yup, I had a straight thru' decatted 94 wagon and it was loud as feck as well... was fine when you were in the mood but could be quite draining if you were on a long drive and weren't in the mood.
  11. I had the same done to me (not by a Subaru BTW), had overtaken some cars on the road back home and coming thru' the village I sat at the speed limit (30mph) and before long I had an old sh*tty fiesta right up on the bumper flsahing his lights for me to speed up, despite the fact he was only doing about 50mph on the main roads. It's not just scoobs, theres plenty of rivers like that out there at the moment.
  12. My first experience of them was being in a Pug GTi overtaking another car on a dual carrigeway, and having only seen a tiny dot in the rear mirror at the start of the overtake, pulled back in and this scoob went flying past me... was gobsmacked at how quick it was. A few months later I was looking at swapping from the Pug to a Corrado VR6 and spotted a scoob for sale in the same place... thought I'd blag a test drive in it, wasn't planning on buying it 'cos at that point scoob were really holding their value. Took it for a spin and that was me hooked, managed to persuade the wife that it really was a good idea [] Kept that first scoob for about 5 years before getting shot of it, purely due to the mileage I was doing, traded it for a Leon Cupra TDi (another nice car in a different way) but am back in a scoob again now (MY56 STi).
  13. When I had my original MY94 wagon and raised the boost on that (Dawes device) I borrowed a mates old boost gauge, which rattled as it worked. Was replaced fairly soon by Autometer gauges, far better guages and silent in running but the figures were just the same. The likes of Defi's look like they just have additional features (max readings, warning lights/sounds) that the Autometer ones didn't, other than than I'd imagine the readings would be damn near identical.
  14. Looks good, love the bonnet as well.
  15. Check grisofts website, as far as I know they just expire the free version from time to time but you can still download the free version, just it's a new free version compared to what you have now.
  16. Just insured with A Plan this year for £468 for a 2006 STi Type UK (std) with me and the wife driving. Was almost a couple of hundred quid cheaper than the renewal from Bell Direct. Tried Keith Mitchells as well but they said they couldn't get close to that figure apparently.
  17. I had a K&N on MY94 wagon for 3 to 4 years without any issues..
  18. I've always tended to use bank loans to buy cars rather than finance as you tend to get a better deal out of it IMO.
  19. Used to have a Magnex 6x4 system on MY94 wagon, was a fully decat'd system and it was fairly loud, made a nice noise but on a long journey it could get a bit wearing. I think the backbox only will make a nice enough noise without being too loud though.
  20. I do, I downloaded them all, but the 97-98 one is 170Mb+ so not email-able. Not sure if you have an FTP site I can upload to?
  21. http://www.lightbulbs-direct.com/variant_s...submittedBy=cap Would these do? Happened to be speaking to someone else about energy efficient bulbs earlier on tonight and he posted a link to the above site. Looks like you have ones that go to 75W... would still be best to check with them if it's safe to put in a 40W max lamp fitting though.
  22. Would imagine that you'd end up burning the edges of the bulb holder or shade if it has one. That's the normal reason for a limit on the wattage of bulb. Might be worth seeing if you can find an energy efficient one that would only be 35W but give you the light equivalent of a 60W or similar?
  23. Yup, just under 8Mb, can email it thru' if you want? PM me your email address and I'll fire it thru' Iain.
  24. Just had a look at that peopleschampion.com website. It looks like it uses the same "back end" site that moneysupermarket.com uses. I'd tried a search with them last week and got a price of £198 for a 2006 STi (quite a few prices around that mark), when you checked against it on their site it definitely listed the STi Type UK, but when you actually went to the insurers website linked from the quote the car you were actually getting quotes on was an Impreza 1.6RZ or something. I gave up in the end as almost all of the quotes I was getting back were based on the same base model rather than the car I'd actually entered into the db (including my reg plate).
  25. I use Reekies/John Gray and Sons in Forres. Much better hourly rate than T&C in Aberdeen, my car gets most stuff done there. I know that quite a few other guys head further south though for theirs?
