  1. Bear in mind that the 45 part is a percentage of the width, so if you increase the width from 215 to 225 then the 45% is larger (96.75 -> 101.25). Your example changed both the size of rim, width and percentage so it's not easy to see the change required.
  2. Not too sure of the tread pattern on the RE050's but the RE070's are almost like semi slicks when they are brand new, fine in the dry or wet but if it's greasy (or snowy/icy) you'd be as well with full slicks as the RE070's
  3. Tell me about it. Left work and it was spitting with rain, part way home and it was chucking it down, then it was really sunny and the road was drying out and then spitting again... all within about 15-20 miles
  4. Yeah, real fun... you look so cool tip-toeing about the back roads at 20mph getting passed by Micra's, etc
  5. Not quite as bad as that here but that's why I was starting to look into getting a decent set of winter tyres for the car this year (did the first winter on RE070's... not doing that again )
  6. I've read a fair bit about this today on various sites and newspapers. Was late hearing about the accident itself until I was speaking to a mate late on last night. Got to say that I still feel like I'm in a bit of shock despite hearing about it last night. I never knew him or met him personally like some on here, but I do remember following all of his rallying exploits (even after he left Subaru). There's little more that can be said that hasn't already on all of the various forums. He was still quite young and had plenty of rallying days left in him IMO. He'll be missed by us all and thoughts have to go to the families of all involved in the accident, to lose one person in an accident must be hard but when you lose a husband and a son (or son and grandson) it must be terrible. Iain.
  7. Sorry for not getting back to you before. Ended up out on the Friday night, again for the whole of Saturday and I'd had to leave the car at work (along with the laptop so couldn't post on here). Didn't have your number to get in contact with you to say I wasn't going to be about. Will be at nights this week though if you are passing. Iain.
  8. Yeah, was as much so we can see what the std one looks like and like you say, once you've dumped it on it's *rse
  9. I'm busy on Saturday but I might be free on Sunday if you want to meet up. You know where I stay (if you remember ) or if you want to do it at yours then I can probably pop round on the Sunday. The wife will be away picking up the kids anyway. It's an 06 STi so should have what you need. Iain.
  10. Now theres something I hadn't thought of Might be worth watching the end of the season after all
  11. Not up in Elgin as much these days but can't say I've ever seen it up there or on the A96 at all.
  12. Agreed. I'd kind of given up on even watching it until this season with a rookie doing so well (that and the MotoGP season not being as close).
  13. Any pics of the car with the new wheels before you drop it?
  14. Anyway to tie it directly into the forum profile (or at least a link from your profile to the member login).
  15. When I initially read this I thought you meant the drivers as well... was just imagining how funny it would be if/when McLaren got a 1-2 at a race and only the third place driver was on the podium
  16. It was an absolutely stunning goal Crackin' match to watch.
  17. What model is it and what all have you done to get that?
  18. It's A Plan that I use. I tried KM after getting a quote from A Plan and after hearing my age and the kind of car and the best quote so far he said he'd never manage to beat the quote and that was the conversation over
  19. Funnily enough it's a V8i Disco I bought Was a series 1 I bought though, so no ACE for me. I am/was the same though. Put next to no mileage on the motor in a year. If we'd bought a Forester I would probably have used it more often that's all.
  20. Yeah, the single track road we're on tends to get snow drifts of about 6ft deep a bit further up the road (half a mile at most). Luckily where we are and down to the main road it's never as deep (even if it does get deep enough to lift a std Impreza Turbo off the road completely[1]). Was looking for something that would be quite good in proper snow [1] - Got stranded a couple of years ago, was managing thru' the snow/ice no problem until I came round the corner and slid up on top of the centre of the road. There had been tractors on the road and the centre mound of ice was tall enough to hold the scoob up off the road so my wheels we spinning in mid air
  21. TBH I did it wrong a couple of years ago. I was looking for a 4x4 and ended up buying a Disco as a winter car (had got shot of the original Scoob at that point). Looking at it now, I really should have bought a Forester instead (regardless of Turbo or std 2.0 model). Would have been a better buy.
  22. Definitely, was in Moscow this summer and everywhere you turned there were AMG G Wagons and Brabus saloons (plus Lambos, Ferraris, Maybachs, etc). Was almost hankering after an AMG G Wagon when I came home again (easily led ). Seen more flash cars there than I've ever seen in my life before.
  23. I'd say an Overfinch 4x4 (Disco or Rangie) is still quick enough in a straight line (I'll ignore the twisties ) As far as I remember Coverttes are pretty nippy b*ggers (which is the basic engine they use).
  24. Anyone got any decent recommendations for winter rubber? Can't run the RE070's this winter again and they are getting close enough to need changed anyway (or before winter anyway). I've tried Michelin Pilot Alpin's on another car (same tyre size) and can't live with the sidewall flex... gives me less confidence than using the RE070's on snow or ice.
  25. Definitely. I was down on the GB for being AndyF'd but after a quick chat via email I figured I need to get decat'd (or sports Cat'd) before I bother remapping it (if I'm going to get decent results). Remap + 3" sports cat system = more than I have to spend at the moment (unfortunately).
