Surely got to be immobiliser related..... take it you have the standard sigma alarm? When you have the key in and your at the ignition setting if you press the alarm key (like you have to when you leave it over 30 secs) does it do anything, i'm sure i used to hear a click as though the relay had been engaged / dis-engaged or something... can't remember if the light on the dash went or not either?? (i've got a classic with aftermarket alarm now so can't compare)

No luck mate, at least you will have a new car that hasn't had a major repair when you get it... i'm always a bit funny about driving something that has had any kind of repair work above a scratch or something... Hope you find something nice soon!

So its not even turning over?? Must be either starter motor or immob surely, if it was fuel pump, fuel filter etc it would prolly turnover but just not spark.... ??

I'm loving it mate! Didn't realise it was Glasgow meet last night until i needed petrol so jumped into the Shell at Hillington and on the way past noticed all the scoobs.... seen a few folk turning round to have a look, prolly thought it was someone else joining!! Was also sitting behind a few scoobs (P1 and a 2 stickered newages) in the garage, unfortunately i had the Mrs with me and we were going shopping (fun) so couldn't pop in, will try and make the next one though!!

Recently bought a new scoob, STi V5.... it has an HKS SSQV dumpvalve and while i know these have a great rep i'm not big on the noise... what im wondering is what is the best DV to replace it with that is ideally as quiet as std... would a standard DV hold 1.3 bar of boost okay? For info it has an FMIC if this makes any difference... Cheers, Chris

Can't imagine it was the BB... did you remove the standard centre section before realising it was the wrong one.. maybe hit one of the sensors (EGT) or something?? Also, does the WRX PPP not remove the centre cat?

Hi All,For the well known 5th gear slipping out issue on a MY99 Jap import STi... i know the fix is to remove back end of box and tighten (replace) nut then put back together, What i'm wondering is where to get it done? I have a mate who has a mechanics but doesn't do too much on gearboxes or Subaru's so if there is somewhere decent that has done this specific job before it may save hassle to get it done by them! Tried phoning Greers but they weren't too sure about this issue......Cheers Chris

I would clarify the octane booster before cutting it.... don't wanna be giving you guff info! What figures can you produce with just the decat and remap... is the remap gonna be on the std ECU?

Gus, I read somewhere that it was around 97 that Japan got the 100 ron petrol so cars before that were mapped for 98 so V-Power is fine.. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will confirm... Does yours have the DCCD Gus?

I've seen a few advertised as - 555 STi Type RA... like - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/112483.htm - is this wrong? I'm 99% certain i want an RA cos of the gearing and rack.... will need to drive one to confirm but in theory thats where i'm heading to... what kinda mileage are they likely to run to before needing a major recondition, obviously assuming they have been well cared for and regular oil changes.... Last question, do you need to get them re-mapped for UK fuel, am i right in saying that due to the fact Jap fuel wasn't the current 100 ron at the time they were made standard V-Power is fine..... ? All, Depite reading several sections / threads on here, Type-RA etc etc i've still got a couple of questions on the above cars. 1 - 555 - This is always an STi spec but can come in RA or non RA versions? 2 - V-Limited - Same as above? 3 - STi Type-RA - I know that there are options on all of the above cars but what are the staple items, ie DCCD, Roof Vent, Quickrack, short gearing ratio etc etc? 4 - What MPG should you expect in average driving around town? 5 - What is the pick of the bunch model wise, i've had a bugeye WRX and i'm looking for something quicker, rawer but not OTT looking.... like the look of the 555 like Gus' but really want the shorter gearing etc..... 6th and last - I'm looking for one of the above, obviously age defines itself but i want a nice clean, standard car with no more than about 65k miles.. what budget should i be looking at?
