  1. Nice pics Dave, but..........they don't do it justice. Had the pleasure of seeing this car in the flesh on Sunday and it is sweeet! Only the shady person in the drivers seat lets it down.
  2. I have an Apexi induction kit on my car but that is only because I have to. When I went FMIC the pipework means that the airbox is in the way and has to go, if I could have kept it I would. An airbox with an STI panel filter would be my weapon of choice and has been proven up to 350bhp. If you decide to keep the kit I'd recommend boxing it off as you said or making a dividing wall at the very least to keep the inlet temps down. Some sort of cold air ducting wouldn't go amis either.
  3. If i was going for a colour change on my car I'd go for matt black. Hard as fook!
  4. As Mr STI said I do indeed have the Hybrid on my whip, don't think you can get them for a newage yet though.
  5. So what's your driving style like exactly? I used to have a uk97 and felt I could get the most out of it almost straight away. Planting your foot exiting a corner? No problem. Changing direction on WOT? Bring it on! Greasy bend on an unkown road? I might have to put my drink down but sure, why not? The Type R is totally different. First off, yes it's got shorter gearing. Not mega short like an RA but if you plan on taking it on the quarter mile you'll be using all 5 gears. Mines good for just over 150 mph at approx 8k revs so not that short but 80mph does work out to 4k revs so bear that in mine if you'll be using it on the motorway a lot. If its an sti version, and there are non sti versions out there, then yes it should have DCCD. Won't bother to describe it as Jamie beat me to the punch and did a better job than I could. I really depends what you want from the car. Everyday cruiser or weekend warrior? I say this to anyone who asks me how they compare but in contrast to the uk model when I first got the Type R I nearly crashed it every time I took it out the garage. You really need to take your time and learn how to drive them. The more you drive it the more you'll like it and when you know how they react they're a total weapon. Short of a 22B it honestly can't think of another Subaru I'd rather have. I'd offer to take you out in mine if you're thinking of buying one but it'll be out for action for the next few weeks. If you're still looking after that let me know.
  6. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ With a max horsepower rating of 545 horsepower, you know it will keep you smiling with a big top end hit!
  7. Everyone has PM
  8. Used to be 8250 but since going apexi I've set a soft limit of 7800. Still good for well over 150mph with Type R gearing. Will be moving it much higher in the next month or so.....8500 and 170mph anyone???
  9. << they are pretty ugly tho so lots of peeps install the leds remote from the box somewhere nice and easy to see >> Like this
  10. Should have mail now
  11. I touch goats
  12. << was actually looking into getting a knocklink and an AFR meter at some point, might hold off on the decat then for a bit. what sort of boost/power increase would i be looking at with full decat? if it was remapped, would it be a case of reprogramming the current ecu or would it need replacing for a different unit, anyone know how much this would set me back?? >> Mine made 320bhp in the above spec at Destek and had the flattest torque curve I've ever seen. A version 5 can have the original ecu remapped (Ecutek) or have a replacement ecu. I went apexi as it seemed to suit my needs best. As mentioned speak to Andy as costs may have changed.
  13. No, not mine... I know of a freshly imported 97 version 4 in blue that'll be coming up for sale in a few weeks time. I think it's the cheapest Type R I've ever heard off. If anyone's interested let me know and I'll give you the details.
  14. I ran my version 5 with a decat and no remap for a while and it was ok. I added a higher pressure fuel pump and a fpr to give it a little more fuel to compensate in the short term but a remap is really the only long term solution. Do you have a knocklink or afr to monitor the engine if you go without?
  15. could anyone lend me an engine hoist for a few weeks. Got a bit of work on over the next few weekends in the garage and it would make all the difference. If it's a collapsible one that'd be even better. Can collect. Cheers
  16. Black car? Gotta have black rims! Nuff said.
  17. If Chris is planning on "inserting" his toys I may have to pull out of this one.
  18. Congrat's Wuz - if you thought running a scooby was pricey this will be an eye opener!! Interesrted in th Perrin intake. Could you tell me if its one of the "big" intakes or the standard size. If it's the big one I'll take it.
  19. I was speaking to Bill this week and he said that they'd be in Wednesday, Thursday and Friday after Christmas so try them then. Bad luck BTW.
  20. << is there any that can be wired up to the front grill or summing and wired up to inside the car as opposed to on the dash to avoid unwanted attention >> Yes. It's called a Target LRC 100 and it does a little bit more than detect lasers. You can connect it to an Origin B2 and run it through that or wire it up as a stand alone unit. If you combine the 2 systems this gives you a stealthy system and pretty good protection.
  21. Tempted to put myself and the missus down for this but not sure about letting her mingle with the above mentioned reprobates. Also, can't guarantee that somebody won't tell her that a 20g doesn't get its name because it actually cost £20.
  22. As Johnny said it's a bit of a work in progress at the moment but here's the spec as it stands Apexi pfc Apexi avcr Td 05/06 20g Hybrid fmic Ported headers and up-pipe Apexi induction kit 740's H&S 3" downpipe Apexi n1 3" exhaust Walbro pump SX fpr As for the future, not too sure but think I've went as far as bolt on will take me. Things are going to oily from this point in.
  23. Any pics or idea just how heavy?
  24. Have you changed or adjusted your fuel pressure regulator?
