  1. Certainly a legend! A man with as big a personality as he had a reputation. I spoke to him several times. I think I had a conversation with him on the Scottish rally in the days when it went through Perthshire. A very warm and funny man with a fantasticly vicious sense of humour. The last time was 10 years ago when I phoned him to get tuition but it was just a bit too expensive for me. I really regret not spending 2 days with him shouting at me to go faster. As with all the rally legends , his exploits are there for everyone to see on the classic videos and DVDs. he was the master of the Chevette and the original Mitsibushi Lancer.
  2. Remember and do wet and dry tests as that will tell you about the cylinder sealing.
  3. I don't get your problem here. If I have a job to do I check back to the source to check nothing has changed. The point is, they have been checking the details which I think shows the correct attitude. This assumes your info is correct.
  4. I hear a lot of negative stuff from a very few people about Aird. I can say that I have had excellent service from them and they have been servicing Scoobs for a very long time. Frankly if I lived closer they would be doing all my work. Any probs just talk to the manager Davie.
  5. Halfway round the world at the moment John so I wish you and everyone else involved a good day and no thunderstorms.
  6. Well I spotted another white classic with BIG spoiler in town last night. It is a pity the roads are all straight and flat for him. No hat for me getting the full tropical heat on my bonce. Offshore today so car spotting is suspended for a while.
  7. Add another Evo to the list. My ride is a Diesel Ford pickup
  8. Well it is 2 - 4 for the skylines at the moment here in downtown KB in the islamic kingdom of Brunei. 1 classic and 1 hawkeye. the skylines were 32s and a 34. Both the scoobs were modded though. 1 solitary Evo 10 for the dark side
  9. Is this a serious post John? Is this really about the car or are there other factors at work here? You have customised your car so much that it defines you now and noone will give you anything near its real value. If you are serious (and I have some doubts about that) then you have to address why the car is making you unhappy. You say you aren't happy on the track with it. Why is that? Maybe you need to improve your own performance rather than the cars'. I do agree about using a modified car on public roads though. My road cars have all been standard. If you want to compete you need a competition car.
  10. Lovely Gus. If only livi could keep an owner for that long.
  11. Was up at the Scottisholdskoolescorts night at KH last night and bumped into a few Jim Clark 2009 vets. Ian Forgan- smashed axle on SS6 in his gold Mk2 escort. Ross Fernie - Huge roll on SS1 in his escort Cossy. Also the Rintouls stooped Ayton when their Evo locked its transmission on a narrow bit of the stage. Not a good year for the GMSC boys. GMSC website with Jim Clark reports
  12. Just to confirm this mate; You are saying that it looks like we have a 4-door cage and that is why it isn't fitting?
  13. Deep in darkest Lanarkshire a 2-door Type-R is defying attempts to have a Sparco weld-in cage fitted. I am informed that the cage is fouling at the top of the B-pillar by a millimetre or so. Is there any difference in the 4-door and 2-door classic shells ? (this one is a 97-98) Has anyone else fitted a Sparco weld-in cage on a classic? Your response is eagerly awaited.
  14. Does that 6R4 have a pukka mpi V64 engine? THe typethat have been nanned in rallying for 10 years? Sweeet

  16. Will have a look tomorrow. How was Charterhall? Rough and dusty?
  17. Was in Aberdeen today doing some reports when I heard the terrible news. I was on the Miller quite a lot when they were drilling the wells back in the 90s. A black day.
  18. I got picked up by a copper last night. She took me down Aberdeen beach and bought me dinner as it was my birthday. Just thought I would even up the balance.
  19. Now far be it from me to put weegie and soap in the same sentence but........OH bother I just did!

  21. I can recommend the traction of a sport in the snow. I pulled vans out of ditches with a sport special. Towed no bother at all.
  22. Has something important happened near there ?
  23. Oxfordshire is the other end of the world Phil! Yorkshire would be a good geographical compromise.
