  1. Tardis has a fair chunk of white spirit and another chunk of Xylene.. Both of which seems like totally the wrong thing to use on paint! But it makes a damn good chemical cleaner and very effective at removign tar spots.. I us a spray bottle to lightly mist hte surface and rub over with a clean cloth particularly around the area wher tar spots are present.. Because of the chemical content of tardis it's a good idea to give hte car another quick wash to try and remove any left over residue that may be present on teh surface! YOu probably don't want to spray the car in white spirit and leave on there any longer than you need Then after the wash go for the polish.. If you wanna be totatally mad in teh nice weather get some claybar stuff and follow this process.. Wash (Preferably with a foam before hand) Tardis (To remove visible tar spots) Wash Claybar (TO remove insighted debris fromt eh paint surface and give it feelins as smooth as glass) Wash (Yep 3rd time to ensure residue from previous step cleared off) Polish Wax/protect 2-3 coats Note usign tardis isn't necessary to do regularly.. As it will strip off any of the wax/protection you had on the car and will need to build it up again.. And good wax protection can help resist tar spots sticking to the surface and regular washing and maybe the odd topup with detailing spray keeps the bodywork feelign slick
  2. Sounds like it was another great success!! WEll done everyone! Although what's this about cars nearly ending up in the drink! Here's a few piccies from Saturday Morning.. Bling all round Group shots: Spot the difference: Shame you guys decided to take the alternative shorter route out of the car park.. Had a video recording for the exit of all the cars in convoy.. But you took the other way out More piccies here: https://picasaweb.google.com/scouk.net/SIDCHighlandFling2011Inverness?feat=directlink
  3. Replaced the rear shocks on my bugeye with the relatively standard issue KYB's and wore them out in 6 months!! Couldn't; be arsed with any warranty stuff and decided to save the pennies and get coilovers.. So far Ive yet to hear of anyone wear out the BC's but heard the TEIN's started to go after a couple of years.. When you take into account the cost of shocks every few months and getting them fitted, aftermarket coilovers starts to work out cheaper!
  4. EEp! Hoping to get my 3 points removed in June.. 4 years after getting stopped for the tinted windows on the front Might see you on the road.. Was planning on being inverness at the back of 9 or so.. and wont necessarily be taking a direct route
  5. I did... Which is why I want to see it in the flesh first hand... ... Mines a bit dirty at the moment and needs a clean.
  6. Enjoy yourselves guys and gals.. Far better way to spend the royal wedding day!! Might try nip through to Inv on Saturday morning to say hello but not doign any runnign about I'm curious to see this Big Red throbbing monster BTW - Shouldn't need to be said, but Police are a bit excited about catching speeding drivers and riders in the area at the moment, so take it easy and keep an eye out for "hazards" on the roads
  7. Cheers guys! Really wantin to get back involved with Scooby stuff again.. It's an itch that needs a damn good scratching! But need to get mysel' sorted first.. Unless someone else in the local area takes on the R/o cap I'll probably be looking to take it on again.. Had some good times while it lasted, and hopefully I'll have more energy and enthusiasm after all this is over.... No matter what the fuel prices will be!! The Scoob's coming for for 10years old next week, so the lift makes a nice wee prezzy for it More than anythign it means I can now look after the underside properly and make sure shes' running as long as possible.. 72k and counting.. One of the main comments that keep comign up when talking to folk about the scoob is just how much they regretted not keeping whatever car they had in their earlier life.. I don't intend to let this scoob go without a fight, too much of my own blood, sweat and tears have gone into this car to simply give it up Already got a couple new parts in mind for the return... But then don't we all, it's never ending.. P.s. No one spotted the MGB GT in the background
  8. Yeah no more lying outside in 3" of snow in middle of winter changing radiators, clutches and mucking about with wheel bearings.. Already been put to good use.. Fuel tank on the Ka was replaced on tuesday along with a good cleanup and wax underneith.. Got the scoob up on it last night for a poke around.. Bit of TLC required under there particularly the rear brake lines.. Anyone with any tips on how to replace them? Looks like a pig of a job! Cheer min... Gutted gonna miss it this year.. And the rest of this year too by the looks of it No keyhole stuff this time.. It's gonna be a wide open job to remove not 1 but 3 tumours WTF!
  9. Not been posting on here much recently, but couldn't resist posting this one up Shame I've only got about 5 weeks to play with it before 'I' go in for a service
  10. Well well well.. Pretty certain this thread will get canned soon so may as well have my say as a paid up member while there's still time.. I find it aabsolutely hilarious that the previous committe was ousted due to the beleif that thery were harbouring money within the club and that it was turnign over a tidy sum and NOT passing back into teh club for growth.. Yet now that new committe is in place they have (after ignoring me) discovered the truth was not what they expected! And infact finds are tight! Don't get me wrong, much of the new committe I've gotten to know the past few years as a good bunch of people.. But I objected to the way they overthrew the club committe.. The club needed some clear thinking and fresh ideas and new peopel but realistically it was similar to what is happening in the middle east and overthrowing govermnents. Despite this, as mentioned above, SIDC needs to go back to scratch and remember why it was set up in the first place! I do have faith in the new committe because I have to because it's all the club has got, no one else had the backing to come forward and try for change.. I've even paid another years membership this year when others haven't because I want to give somethign back to the club to help get it back on track.. God knows, at the very least I'd still be an R/o if it weren't for personal reasons! When I get my self back on the ball again I really hope there's a club to come back to.. But I have to say it looks less likely than it was before the changes.. The attitude of some key members on this thread are in by view completely in appropriate and should not have been said.. Gives a bit on insight into the mindset of the new committee and it's shocking!!! If the club is going to get back on it's feet, it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. Much of the posts on here these days and solely from a handful of people and not what it was or should be... Don't let the club go down guys n' gals, get some decent diverse representation from varuous people to move the club forward. Amazingly this place seems to be more clique than ever
  11. My kind of guy! our posts often crossed paths on this forum discussing similar mechanical aspects of scooby ownership.. I heard about the accident first thing yesterday morning, but unusually for me didn't pick up on any specific details of it.. Very sad to read here that it was an impreza and fellow SIDC member.. Press and Journal article: http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/2106747 .. My thoughts are with the family and friends ...
  12. Wow! Not been posting on here recently but Grant you've brought me out of lurker mode. First off, great summary of the year! Grat photos and memories there whcih only you can truely appreciate A for the down moments.. Keep you head up min! Just be greatful they have found something! I've been in and out of doctors surgeries and hospitals all year mysel and not gettign very far.. WHich is the main reason I gave up R/o-ing earlier in the year and took a step back from all things SIDC a few months ago. The recent chapter for me started just a few hours after the last SIDC meet I was at. I was rushed to A&E the morning after with unusual chest pains.. That cleared up after a few hours but they discovered something odd in their x-rays which they weren't looking for.. WEnt for a CT Scan few weeks later and discovered I have a tumour right next to my spine which has attached itself to two of my ribs where they connect to my spinal cord! Got an appointment next week with a surgeon in Aberdeen (yee-phookin-haa) Not convinced its the source of all the problems I've been whinging about, but I guess it's a step in the right direction.. *sigh* You've definately summed up the year well there.. ... Surely there's been a donkey meet! That poor aniumal will be feelign so neglected )
  13. Looks like the perfect level of tint! Not too dark, but dark enough
  14. About 5-10 years ago there were loads of scoobs on the road and new ones at that.. Now there's hardly any but loads of Focus RS's and ST's Also with the performance difference being less between the impreza and other cars nowadays the impreza isn't always top of people most wanted list.. Those that are genuine scooby enthusiast tend to own one or aren't too far from them... Those that aren't tend to buy one and within 12 months sell it again and get something else usually a focus these days.. And particularly in the current financial climate (I hate that phrase) high insurance/tax/fuel costs isn't the sort of thing that attracts people. Unless subaru comes back into motorsport evetns I honestly believe the brand has peaked as far as performance car enthusiasts in concerned.. and it' on the downward slope at the other side.. But like many old skoool hot cars, there are those that will always stick with it, because of what it is! If someone want to the buy a scoob they will, but there's not many of those people around.. Those that want one tend to already have one.. Which makes it a bugger if your trying to sell and that is something which has definately become more difficult in recent years.
  15. Also one point not strictly mentioned here.. Overall demand for Impreza is down, classics are getting snapped up by young drivers and in some cases crashing them which puts our insurance up.. But mainly, Subaru isn't the iconic household(?) name it used to be.. No longer part of the WRC and with no big driver names associated with it, like McRae, Burns, Makkinen and or even Block now, many have lost interest in the brand and now look back at ford for their kicks..
  16. First thought when reading that is what model of car is it.. WRX ok.. but what year? could be anything from 1990's to 2010. I'm guessing it's a blobeye so say 03/04? Photos are a must for car sales. Also what colour is it? general location in the country? price wise 4200 is possibly about right. My 01 Bugeye WRX with 72k is only worth about £3,000 book price, But as mentioned above, The Impreza isn't generally a saught after car unless you want one. And even then most people buy a car based on colour & how it looks so photos are a must! On the plus side, a standard car should attract attention! If you post some links up for the online ads it may help give better feedback..
  17. My Mistake... BBC2
  18. Subject says it all really. Highlights from the last 4 events of the SRC on tonight at 11pm on STV BBC2 Scotland
  19. What a mess.. hopefully you can get it through without too much cost I'd of offered a shotty of my old center cat pipe but it won't fit properly.. (But I see you foudn your old bits anyway...) Edited to add: Come to think of it.. I assume the exhaust system was checked for leaks as even a small one can screw up the emission test..
  20. 8hrs seems excessive.. I swapped mine out for coilovers a coupel months back on the drive way with a jack and took about 4 -> 4.5hrs in total.. That includes refitting front & rear strut braces and re-adjusting the rear right as I stuffed up the camber I have noticed with other jobs though that it depends a lot of how stuck the bolts are.. A simpel job can sometimes take ages.. But for an estimate, 8hrs is rediculous. That's 2hrs per corner and it's only 5 nuts/bolts per corner (+ taking wheels off first) and extra 7 bolts for hte rear seats and seatbelts.. They could just be quoting the standard autodata time, which is rarely accurate when people know what they are doing...
  21. IIRC there are two zones.. Primary one beign the drivers view and secondary zone passenger view (more or less) Primary view is somethign like 10mm obsctuction and Secondary zone 30mm.. (The specific details are on the VOSA website somewhere..) Unfortunatley due to the height the wipers on teh imrpeza go to the top of hte screen it makes pretty much any sunstrip illegal.. A road side VOSA check will hammer you for it (potentially 3 points £60 fine and car taken off the road) as it'll be considered an unsafe vehicle. Also it "shouldn't" pass an MOT.. I've failed a MOT because of it in the past, but I know plenty of peopel that havent had any trouble.. Last time I just made up modified wiper blades for the test. Just something to be aware of..
  22. What a great idea! gimme a shot of as many variances of inpreza as you can, particularly the limited editions and I'll set up a autotest/gymkhana style layout at a local airfield and compare them over a day or two for some independant testing and comparison Now that would be a great day! Nope.. didn't know that one..
  23. That's very movign indeed.. To many good people are now missing from the sport, I'd never seen Jimmy with anythign less than an enthusiastic smile on his face at events.. He said he would win the championship in 2012, I believe he probably would! To have one the championchip 3 times, once a decade would have been a great accolade. Particularly once again in a Subaru Impreza.. I'll be stickign yet another signature tribute sticker on my rear window next to Colin's one. For Jimmy... In memory of yet another driver taken from us before their time..
  24. WoohoO! Fame at last The site is currently in the process of beign completely overhauled (havent updated anything on it for a coupel of years now) totally new design and more useful scooby info hopefully.. I know some of the stuff on there at the moment isn't necessarily accurate, so if you spot something on there which is just plain bull**it feel free to let me know
  25. Yeow!!! that's a nasty one! Really lucky there.. Hope eveyone is ok! Farmer will definately be in deep do-doo with that one!! Bit of a freight all roudn I'd of thought! If anythign that's proof that there CAN be a tractor round every corner Shame about the Catalunya but very lucky indeed!
