  1. fingers crossed Craigy's poorly back will be sorted by then too
  2. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7936650.stm Motorists using the main road network across Kent are being asked how it should be policed and what their particular issues of concern are. Kent Police are seeking to find out what drivers are worried about when using the motorways and trunk roads. Officers are spending the day at a service station at junction 8 of the M20, near Maidstone, surveying drivers in the first event of its kind. Thousands of vehicles use the M25, M20, M2, A20 and A2 each day.
  3. sorry we can't make this one folk - sure you'll have a good time without us
  4. a few there I'd not seen before - keep it up!
  5. Sorry to hear the sad news - times are bad enough without extra regulations crippling our farming any more. Cheers, David & Chrissy
  6. This was started 4 or 5 years ago and got a lot of publicity after the 7/7 events in London. I believe it got a big hype from Vodafone / East Anglian Ambulance way back then, but was firmly squashed when the legal folk pointed out the ramifications of such an idea. The priority is to deal with your critical injuries - finding out who you are is very low down on the list of things to bother with. There were also stories circulating soon after, that people were going through casualty's pockets claiming to be looking for a mobile with an ICE number, but actually using it as a cover story (if challenged) to steal from the victim. Question to those of you who are still tempted to bother - do you lock your phone with a PIN to prevent unauthorised use? ..... If your car is involved in a serious accident and you are unconscious, your registration plate is a rather simpler route to identification in many cases - assuming you're not on false plates of course If you're that bothered that nobody will report you missing, then get your NI number / postcode tattooed on your butt
  7. Milton Keynes calendars must be different - mine says the second Sunday is the 8th! Even if we're still deciding where to go some months, it might be a good idea to publish a list of the probable dates for 2009 just to make sure we all stick it into our diaries? If there was an event like Abingdon airshow, would we drop the meet for that month? Only so many weekends in a month, and only so much cash to shell out too!!!
  8. Last year we met at Abingdon Tesco car park and convoyed through behind Craigy. Think the entrance fee was £10 but Craigy got us reduced rates of a fiver for driver + 1 passenger - had to get the cash to him in advance though! Craigy - put us on your list fella, we're supposed to be marshaling that weekend, but can't chose between A1GP / FIA GT / Britcar or Rallycross - so sod it, we'll have the day off and enjoy ourselves at the airshow again Cheers, David & Chrissy
  9. Looks like we can both get along on Sunday - arriving a bit later than 11:30, as can't get out of MK until 11ish. Bring on the puds
  10. Looks like sitting in small groups will get free puddings all round (max 4 people) http://www.harvester.co.uk/voucher_page1.htm Also seems that the earlybird deals run every day before 18:30, so not too pricy day out at all http://www.harvester.co.uk/our-menus/earlybird-menu.html
  11. good news! hope you didn't have to stay sober all Christmas just in case you needed to get the car out ...... see you all at a meet before too long, I hope Cheers, David & Chrissy
  12. Have a good & safe one everybody. Thanks to all of the Oxon RO dudes for the efforts this year - can be a thankless task at times Scoobs already had it's Christmas prezzie - new NSF hub & bearing. Big thanks to Cotswold for getting me back on the road for Christmas, and to Mark for tracking down the fault after I guessed a brake problem Cheers, David & Chrissy
  13. No3 - print no 471 went for £160 No4 - print no 244 for £82 so far No5 - print no 257 at £102 so far - c'mon the gathering good to see the poster up there at £77 so far hope those who failed to get No3 put their cash towards the No5 from Imy, not the other profiteer
  14. I spy a scooby owner - IJSEMT (Ian from Goodwood) was "Mr Startline" this year - great shot of his green armband behind the flag in photo 046
  15. A big thank you to Iain & Jenny for all of their efforts and cooking today - plus the special Subaru coloured cakes from Keira Good to meet the few who did turn up - shame that all those (except one) who didn't had forgotten Iain's phone number or this thread to make their apologies Cheers, David & Chrissy
  16. Looking forward to it - probably not escaping from MK until 11, so will miss your opening ceremony
  17. clue - take the domain name from the ebay email address look up domain name in various on line tools to find owner name / contact details search google for any other key words / postcodes that come out of the above. also - just take the domain name from the email address and see what person / business can be found on that web site. Sadly, knowing who they are doesn't get the money into the right charity or make them feel guilty
  18. If it's still the same patch as a couple of years ago, then there was a course something like this : away from the assembly patch up a long narrow concrete road left up the slope onto tarmac to do the various twiddly bits back down the far side of the slope and sweep right into the road you entered by. The run back was the shaker, as there was a very solid gatepost to your left as you hit the concrete at 80+ One of the guys was running with his scanguage plugged in and i think it showed he clocked mid 90's as a top speed, so your big 'un should really fly. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=e...mp;t=h&z=16 "pits" is the patch top centre concrete road heads SSW from there exercise tarmac is bottom centre live runway for airyplanes runs up the left hand side btw site entrance was where the little red arrows are to the right. Presume you guys in the Kent convoy will be chattering on channel 1 all the way there?
  19. can't really win when the neighbours get a***y. I'd ask the council to explain why they are getting involved if the exhaust is legal (ahem!). I suppose they could still go after you if they could prove that you were making unnecessary extra noise, revving it's nuts off at silly o'clock! At the end of the day, if they get a vendetta going at you, then you'll only end up with the car smeared in dog mess or even scratched / chipped. Of course, if you do get a bung, it would be really sweet to pop around to the neighbour with a bunch of flowers or box of choccies and tell them that you hadn't realised that it was causing a problem, so you've now gone out and bought an expensive gizmo to help quieten it down. Strange thing about human beings is that they won't be able to look you in the eye if you turn all sweet with them - confrontation is expected and easier to cope with. Alternatively, could invite everyone over for a meet in your street
  20. had the same dilemma when i did my first one at Arundel. If you worry about your tyres during the day, then you simply won't push as much, or get as much from the day. I went for a second set of wheels and now get to retire road tyres to track and then rip them up without worrying how to get home legally / safely. Bonus is that I tend to have better road tyres and never waste money ripping up the best ones. Even got a third set now that I'm running winter tyres on - will drive down on them and then rip up the 18" Falkens all day. Ask Santa for a set of wheel bags - back in the SIDC shop and top kit for carrying your wheels on the back seat without making a mess. I think Hol was the man who showed me how to put a pair on each rear seat, then hold them in with seatbelt & cable ties. Also worth looking in Maplins for the cheap 12v wheel wrench, unless you're borrowing mine See you there Cheers, David
  21. might not be a great help to you chasing your parts / cash back, but i would suggest that you post something about your problem in his for sale thread. That may be something he's monitoring, and even if not, then it might just save someone else falling into a hole? Sadly, you may also find some other folk saying "me too". Not sure what the SIDC admin position would be if there does turn out to be a problem - presumably, we wouldn't condone it staying up as an advert / user in case others fell foul? Can't find my club rules booklet (or rules on line anywhere) to see what sanctions the club reserves. Also could post a comment on his profile - keep it clean, but might just help anyone who might otherwise get in a mess. May also be worth searching the web for his address / postcode / real name / email / phone numbers - never know who else may have posted with good or bad news about the guy. Equally, if you are still hitting a brick wall after a bit longer, then getting something of that nature into the public domain may help prevent another victim. Longer term, yes to the police - might get no action, but it might help to build a case if there are other problems in the past or future. Also speak to your bank and ask them to work with the other end to log the account as moody. The courier firm that he said he would use may also be worth speaking to? Having said all that doom & gloom, here's hoping it all works out and the bits arrive in the morning!
  22. Hey Rob, good to know that you're still alive and scoobying (eventually). Chrissy says Hi & Happy Christmas Cheers, David
  23. As I read it, there is a warning that speccies will freeze their nuts off - implies that they are ok to come if daft enough It goes on to point out that instructors only no other pax while under instruction, and speccies not allowed on the exercise area (elfen safety innit) Having done one in the summer last year, then there were a couple of speccies (behind the line) in deck chairs with a picnic - be a bit brave to do that on Sunday in the cold though Last time we were able to top up with Shell nearby - M11 J7 - just head North up the A414 for a mile towards Harlow. Current weather forecast suggests clear and about 6C with very low wind, but bound to change by then.
  24. shame the ebay page mentions a donation, not the full profit being handed back to the fund, but maybe the donation will be that generous? I can be a sceptical old sod at times, so here's hoping that it's genuine and the fund does well from it. I'm no financial expert, but if this is being sold via their business (ebay quotes their sales account on chs-hire.co.uk) , how will the money make it back out of the company accounts into private hands again?
  25. 1.Iain + Jen + Keira 2.Andy + V ( I know where you live) 3.Mike 4. David & Chrissy 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
