  1. Good idea Cal - I'll find a piccy tomorrow.

The signature/picture removal etc is in the guidelines for two reasons - one is the bandwidtgh useage (which is not huge) - the other is the HUGELY annoying point that EVERY reply with a photo in the signature makes the page AGES longer to scroll through - forums with pictures in the signatures get a bit ridiculous after a while with HUGE signature photo's displaying life stories.  Why people rant on about it sometimes as a big deal is beyond me - it's a web forum, we enjoy using it and the guidelines are there for everyone to see.  Ranting at the SIDC/moderators/forums/world (delete as appropriate) is a waste of energy and life chances - it does nothing for anyone's day.

  2. I bought a bung for my H&S jap slash box - monstrously loud and a good deal quieter with the bung - 54 quid though - not cheap.

I then had my centre section rebuilt by C&C with a resonator which made it deeper but not quieter.

Finally fitted a Scorpion/Prodrive backbox - it really helped and will have little difference to the flow of the system.  Still loud with no cats but much more liveable - but then again I like loud so it may not last!

  4. Sounds like a wheel balance issue - often get this when wheels are removed after being on a while (for work) then re-seated differently.  Take them off and refit them.  If still there look at two obvious things first:

    1.  Wheels need balanced.

    2.  Brake discs are slightly warped.

  5. Attend the meets - look in the meets section.  That's where people get to know each other and talk, but at an event (aside from the cold etc) you have to introduce yourself to new members because no one knows who is an SIDC member, who is there just to watch, who is there by accident, etc.

  6. 1 - If your sidelights won't switch off look for the parking light switch on top of the steering column .

2 - Use the search function on the forum before asking the same old question .

3 - The best first mod for an impreza is the exhaust (backbox at least)

    4 - Buy a newage

5 - Make sure you get regular quality oil / filter changes every 3 - 4000 miles

6 - Always run the car on good quality fuel - V Power/BP Ultimate/Tesco 99 and add octane booster for safety in an unremapped import

7 - Avoid "chip"ing an impreza - get it remapped by an expert like Andy Forrest (Apexi for classics, ECUtek for newage)

8 - Sell the Newage and buy a Classic

9 - Always wait till the engine is nice and warm before giving it full pelt and let it cool down befrore switching it off

10 - Upgrade your brakes before modding the engine

11 - A VTA dumpvalve isnt really a good idea unless your car is getting remapped to compensate for it. It will momentarily make your car run rich as the ecu gives fuel for air which has been dumped and not recirculated. All you are missing is the gay noise.

12 - Solid rear droplinks and a decent suspension geometry set-up are probably one of the best sub-£100 modifications you can do to a standard car.

  7. Thanks Paddy - and Grant - just what we all knew [:)]

When the car was into Andy F last month he said the intercooler was working perfectly well, even with the increased power and mods and there was no need to replace it with a front mount or big topmount unless planning big mods.  The intake temps on the gauge never get high either, even when stuck in traffic - seems to be a bit more room in the engine bay than in my newage.  The intercooler is very lightweight, quite deep and not too much different in size to the newage wrx one.  Certyainly much lighter in weight than the newage STI one I had.

Spent another 30 minutes or so cleaning the engine bay after I washed the cars.  This'll do for now - for a 12+ year old car its' looking good and will look even better by the time it is 15! [:(]
