To make things clear - I will not be changing any turbos or upgrading the intercooler at this time. Nor will I even be considering them until the end of the year. I don't mind paying for a second map should I progress the car further down the line. The car will be run on v-iagra and booster at knockhill/crail only for added protection (not performance) but it will be mapped as an every day enjoyable road car that feeds on v-power alone. If any dual mapping is done it will be one for economy, not for special fuel for trackdays. I know everyone has great intentions, but I'm not interested in bigger turbos, bigger intercoolers, etc. at the moment unless it will be unsafe to run the car with the full decat and not upgrade these parts. Which is why I believe a set of sti pinks at this time are likely to be a waste as it is my belief that the standard injectors will handle ~280. I'm not in this to be a dyno queen with huge numbers. I'm not chasing numbers at all. Please don't quote me on that though. Should I wish to start Phase 2 of a project then I have plenty of good advice.

Well the final decat parts have been sourced and ordered/reserved. It will mean I have a spare decat pipe going which I shall have for sale after the fitting. If you want it get your name down now. £50 and its yours. I'm think going to stick with the standard airbox with an uprated filter for the moment. I'm well aware of the benefits and good noise that the CAI would bring, but having done my own research I'm quite comfortable that the standard induction system will cope adequately with what I'm aiming for. £200 is better spent elsewhere at the moment. Should I wish to progress the car further then I would probably go for one, but that wont be for at least another 6 months to a year. A fuel pump will be sourced too, and I'll check with Andy when I go to arrange a mapping time about the pressure and injectors, but based on knowledge of other people's cars I believe that I wont be pushing the envelope with the existing parts. The plan has always been for a full decat and a map. The car made 248bhp and 232lb/ft with 2 cats still in place, an unresonated centre and a backbox, so I know that the ECU is decent. BUT! I believe that the map is the right way to go at this point in the cars development as it has reached the point in which I have all the parts I want to make the power I want.

Dave, I'm not keen on running a full decat on the standard map. Especially if I'm going to be tracking and dragging the car. Which as we all know I am more than partial to. [] I know with some careful monitoring of all the variables I could probably run with it, but I don't want the nagging feeling that it's even a bawhair out on the fuelling and end up with a major problem. ~£500 for the licence and first map is well worth it for the health and safety of the car.

Welcome to the forums. P1 is a great car.
-
higgy, that was the very clutch I'd been considering. I thought the WRX injectors would cope fine. Remember this will all be done on the stock turbo. Still not sure about the CAI or the airbox. I will do some pricing.

Ketih Michaels quoted me at 25 with 5 years NCB for £750 on an 05 WRX with Mods.
-
Ah yes, interesting point Mr Bandit. Any thoughts anyone? One other thing - wrapping. Should I get anythign wrapped whilst it's getting sorted? Up pipe possibly?
-
Clutch is still to be decided Peter, but what we discussed is the current leader. We'll have some words on Saturday. The pipes were sourced last night, so will sort out the rest in the coming month hopefully. Not sure if it's all go for a pre-trackday remap or not. Might just skip it and use the cash to finish everything off.

Welcome to the club and the forums. I recognise the car from some Crail photos.

Right, the globex corporation has provided some funding for project Arcturus so I've been sourcing some final bits. Car is a 2005 WRX and it'll be going full decat - I have this in hand. I have the prodrive/samco IC hose installed on the stock WRX IC. Brakes, suspension etc. are fine for the moment. Clutch is shot but that's in hand too. So I'm left with I think 3 things to sort out that I know of. Plugs - will I need to get a better set before mapping? Fuelling - will the standard WRX fuel pump cope with ~290bhp which is what I hope the car will make after mapping. If not then the Walbro is the best option? Intake - I've asked this before, but I'll go again. I know the standard intake is good enough for 300+ but would it be worth it to upgrade to a CAI? They all claim extra horses but that's marketing for you. Will I see real world benefits? If anyone thinks of anything I've missed please shout now or forever hold your peace.

GUS, I touch goats! My backbox is a bit on the loud side with the resonator in place. Taking it out certainly deepend the tone, but it kicked it up a wee notch on the loudness too. Particularly at full tilt.
-
I have a MY05 WRX that's just over 2 years old now with 35K on it, never been tracked or dragged, HONEST! It has a couple of wee marks on the outside, and the paint on the cars is criminally thin so that's no unusual. However, on the inside it is still in great condition. The interior fit and finish is certainly not one of the cars strong points, but it is durable. I'd imagine the person might not have looked after the car particularly well

Well there you go. I've NEVER seen one on the UK roads so just assumed we never got them. I stand humbly corrected.

Is there a time limit on this because I'm wanting to book one, but don't have a date yet as I've not sourced all the parts or robbed enough banks yet. Looking either early march or more likely April/May. I should say I'm happy to put a deposit down to get the discount and then book a time with Andy later if that's cool?
-
The 3rd cat delete wont do much for the noise, but replacing the resonated centre section with the unresonated one will. I've got that hooked up to a hayward and scott jap slash backbox and it's DAMN loud.
-
No doubt I'll hear it or see it near the office Derek. Not enough scoobs lurking down that end of town.
-
I can't tell the difference between the 6 and the 7. I should have gone with Hawkeye and I wouldn't have been wrong. Black splitter or colour matched?
-
Niiiiiiiice. Loving the 06 in white. Needs a v-limited splitter though.
-
No idea, but fixed your link for you.
-
Unless you have DCCD then it's 50/50. Unless I'm very very wrong.
-
286 is my best, but that was only 50l worth. I did 280 on 45l too, and that's best MPG.
-
Standard white outline on black background Gus. To fit wing mirrors.
-
James, to post a picture just put [ i m g ] http://www.etc/whatever [ / i m g ] (removing the spaces obviously) Looks like you got lucky this morning. I must admit I had a very hairy moment where the backend was trying to come round. The goodyears have been remarkbly well behaved in the bad conditions so it must have been black ice.

Gus, can he do me a couple of Solberg pigs?
-
See my thinking was the same as Marty, so it was a genuine question. The tyres would only be used on track, where hopefully it will be dry. HOWEVER! After doing a bit of thinking back to last year - the weekend of the first track day happens to be the same weekend last year where the M74 was shut in the borders due to the weather, and we got a damn good snow fall in west central too. So maybe getting the cars fitted with snow chains is the best idea for the trackday! I was just trying to save a bit of cash on the track days really. If I save money there then I can move along project GO FASTER which has a current ETA of April or May.
