Great news Sean. I don't think my neighbours would have appreciated the full on pops and bangs setting so much, but mine still does it a wee bit [] I still can't get over how much more torque I have after Monday!

Help needed with IHI VF23 (hybrid ant-lag)
st3ph3n replied to peter_reid's topic in Scottish Scoobies
This is where I say pass and let someone with more skill take over. I just thought I'd get the obvious questions out the road to satisfy my own curiosity and pre-empt what others might ask. 0.5 bar is the usual factory fail-safe if there's an issue. Could be hitting fuel cut from over boost and then reigning it all back in and holding 0.5bar. His furryness may be along later with proper answers! -
Help needed with IHI VF23 (hybrid ant-lag)

Pete, what ECU is the car running, has it been mapped since the new turbo was fitted, are you running standalone boost control like an AVC-R or is your ECU taking care of it? -
With Bridgestone Potenzas you don't need run flat technology. The sidewalls are harder than the solving the square root of 63 billion using only your fingers and toes.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wireless-Ti...82252QQtcZphoto I know I get a bit of a slagging for my plentiful supply of gauges and displays when everything's armed, although I think drb5 probably would out do me, but surely that one takes some beating!

You would definitely want a map or at least a good checkup if you added a cat back into the system. You could always visit a custom exhuast place and see what they could do with the system in terms of putting a cat into your existing pipe work, or at least breaking the system down into component parts so you can install a cat at a later date.

The results are in! (and all the thank yous)

Not sure yet Marty. It's 2 tanks of petrol really and well the last 2 weeks haven't been cheap as you can imagine. Especially with the clutch going on too. BUT! Never say never. -
Andy, after our wee discussion the other night I'd been having a think about it. For a start - I don't personally value the SL at all. The UK seats are bad enough at keeping you in without being leather. Sunroof - meh. For me the red on that doesn't really work for me as much as it does on the blob. I think white and black look fantastic on the hawkeye though. Although I bet with your white wheels and taking it off its stilts it would look really good. I can't remember most of your mods, but you could remove a good number of them and reinstall on the new car. Wheels, centre section and backbox on the exhuast, strut braces(?), stereo(?). So that's surely a good saving anyway? For me - keep the current car and mod it a wee bit more.

Aye, good to see you posting again Craig. Specs are on page 1. Standard block, turbo, injectors, intercooler etc, just a full decat and a couple of supporting bits. Not a major change, but really pleased with the numbers. Damn it's loud though! Car definitely runs cooler with the Zero Sports cool thermo. Pleased with that for £35 -

Sounds really good Jim. Amazing to hear the recirc valve so clearly as well. We'll need to organise a wee fly by video of a few cars at sometime. -

I think if Andy and I went for a wee run in the same place at the same time then there'd be some worried seismologists in the central belt. A hole will be drilled for fixing the "midweek bung" this week though. The car really does pull quite spectacularly now. It builds boost so quickly, but even just tickling the throttle makes it take off. It's so driveable as well. I can't remember the exact numbers, but the full 1.3 bar is hit at roughly 3000rpm. I stopped off at work on the way home from Port Seton yesterday to take a couple of people out for a spin and they were impressed. When I left I drove up the Canongate and swiftly received a text message asking if it was me that was making all that noise! Might need to go down the clyde tunnel this week too [] -
I'm just down in Bothwell. The shell in Bellshill's one of my local watering holes. I've learned a lot about the electronics behind the dash in the Impreza. Got a few things wired in now, splitter for cigarette lighter socket hardwired in the back, defi gauges taking their power from the stereo harness too. It's my specialist subject on SIDC Mastermind!

Do you have a new age by chance? It sounds to me like your powered antenna isn't switching on as I had the exact same problem. I think if you check your subaru to iso harness you'll find there's one wire that your pioneer stereo isn't providing a feed to. I'm certain it's the blue wire. What you need to do is cut that wire then splice or blade it into the switched 12v line. That way when you turn your ignition on the signal amp will get powered up, as it isn't at the moment.

Complete nonsense. Waste of your money.

Oh yes, that was mentioned. Andy had a wee laugh. [] I think we need to get a wee Knockhill in your company van race sorted. It'd be like Touring cars, but better. Cal - should be at least another 6 months before I even think about doing anything else to the car. Know what needs done already though [] -

Double extra medium Peter. Might be up at Crail. Will see how the new clutch feels. Don't want to wipe it out too soon. -

No idea. Too much, not enough, just right. I spent the money wisely on good components for the job. And I can't take it with me when I go. -
Gary the rear is a pain in the arse to fit mate. When I did mine I took the ends off and fitted them first before putting the bar in between and tightening it. You just have to make sure the ends fit onto your top mounts properly. They should only fit on one way really, so maybe try swapping them. If not then, maybe it's not right!

And they are (drum roll please) ..... 290bhp and 290lb/ft of torque. Better than I could have hoped for. So that "concludes" the project. Maybe it's just the end of the first project with a second to come, maybe not. I'm ecstatic with the car right now. The torque curve is so strong, and it might be an old cliché but the car pulls as hard in 3rd now as it did in 2nd previously. The handling and braking are pretty well sorted too, and there's nothing much else I want to do. For the moment [] So like all good award speeches I'll have to do some thanking, because I sure as hell didn't do the work myself. First thanks to Andy Forrest for mapping the car this morning. Was the first time I'd met Andy and it was a real pleasure to have him working his magic on the car. I learned a few new things this morning as well that I will keep in mind for any future plans. It's good to have a genius close by. The two SPECIALISTS, and I use that word delibarately, who have worked on the car since I got it - Hypertech and Greers. Both excellent places to go and I can highly recommend them. To anyone that I've bought bits from. Particularly Gus the bus for sourcing me the downpipe from his mate who fabricates them. I know it's only one part of many, but it's an important one and the proof is in the pudding, and 290/290 is a damn tasty pudding. The OSIDC and Peter for all their advice and the good banter. Peter for his wheeling and dealing too [] Anyone else that's given me advice in person or on the forums. It's always much appreciated. Spooks and Gus for helping fit my gauges. The engine bay scares me! And Subaru for making the car in the first place. More rattles than mother care, but it goes and it turns. So for those interested and because I'm completely open about what it's running here is the spec of what is no longer the little WRX that could, but what I will now christen Kuroi Akuma (the black demon): MY05 WRX (Euro Import) Standard block, intercooler and turbo. Full decatted exhuast comprising APS Up-pipe, Gus the bus sourced Downpipe, Miltek centre section and an H+S Backbox. This combination can only be described as LOUD. Even the squirrell said it was a bit cheeky. NGK7 Iridium plug things, forget the proper model number. STI Panel Filter, Samco Intercooler hose, Walbro 255lbh fuel pump, HKS SSQV dump valve and a Zero/Sports Cool Thermo. Oh and a Cusco slam panel. Bit of cooling bling [] Tein springs, whiteline droplinks, Cusco front and rear strut braces. Prodrive Geometery. EBC Red Stuff pads all round. EBC discs up front. Goodridge braided hoses and 5.1 fluid. Standard 5 speed with a lightenned flywheel and an Exeddy Organic Clutch. Defi Genome Gauges (Boost, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure) Scott Lowe GT wing and splitter. Think that's it.

Too excited to sleep! Watching Chappelle's block party first, then bed.

I've been behind the Red and White one whilst it was chucking out flames before. It's damn impressive.

I was going to come up for a watch, but I got out my bed at about 11. Car should be on track for the next one. -
