  1. will try and digest the instructions above and give it a go tonight Ian..... must be able to gain control somewhere.....
  2. Stephen I am trying to sort my membership but that isnt my problem, the system doesnt seem to have accepted the changes I made to my profile whenever I changed my email address. I updated my password etc and email address but I cant get access to login and change my details......can you reset my password for me...???
  3. I remember right clicking the folder last night and looking at the properties..the file size was showing as 0 bytes instead of about 30gb in my settings.......but will look at it again and see if I can get into the settings.... thanks for all your helps guys.. Paul
  4. will check Ian and see...I am using my work laptop to copy all the files to ...so not sure if I am set as an adminstrator on this or not....will have a look....they were all set up by head office.... how do I reset the permissions for the folder..???
  5. I had a password set up for access to my desktop on the pc unit...however as I have connected the HDD through the caddy to another laptop it doesnt give me the chance to enter the password and I think this is why I can get to my own drives....I can access shared, and Jo's stuff with no problem because she didnt have a password .....I need to find out how to get into the settings and disable the password..
  6. Well guys...I am pleased to report a partial success.... I managed to get the hard drive out last night and use the HDD caddy I got from Maplins at the weekend....to transfer the data from the shared directories on the drive over to my laptop for transfer to a clean machine...where I came unstuck however is I failed to get any data from my own "Pauls" documents as access to this drive was denied...I feel this may be due to the fact that at login time I had to enter a password and obviously connecting the drive to another operating system I dont get the chance to do this.... is there anywhere within the settings which are accessable that I can delete the password..?
  7. Guys... I have logged 3 support tickets over the last week or so and sent several messages with no response.. regarding problems with my account......I really want to get my membership renewed....what sort of RO would I be without it. eh...... really need a response and not sure if you are getting my mails, as I still do not have internet access at home.....and can only check during work hours.....can one of you please reset my password and let me know via my mobile....07973642765.... thanks guys
  8. do any of you guys know if the caddy will let me access "virtual" drives on my HDD....it seems reading the manual that my Packard Bell operates with the HDD segemented into 2.....1 section has windows and all the operating system gubbins...and the other virtual section has all the data.... any ideas...
  9. Ian The problem we believe is the computer has got some sort of conflict going on. There is nothing wrong with the hard drive as such, but the computer wont boot passed the point of "Verifying DMI Pool Data"....now if you do a search on google for this you would be amazed at the amount of people whos computers have done this....We have tried to access the data in DOS mode, but the documents are so well hidden. We have reset the BIOS to all the defaults with no succcess.....I have also tried changing the setting so the BIOS thinks there is no HDD and then rebooting and let it auto detect but still it goes no further than the screen above...... I havent heard of the caddy Welsho is talking about but that sounds ideal...if it would work........ Paul
  10. Okay guys really needing a BIG favour here.. I have had a terminal problem with my PC at home....I am now at the point were I am about to lose around 6 years worth of family photographs and data...... I can no longer boot my computer up...and have been working with a friend in Belfast via telephone to try and resolve...basically the upshot of all my bother is I dont care about the rest of my machine but want my data recovered somehow....we believe the easiest way to do this is to take out my hard drive and install as a secondary device in another desktop PC allowing me to pull of my documents and start from scratch... In order to do this I need a basic desktop with a usb port running windows xp.....thats about it...from this I should be able to access my documents and save via the usb to an external drive....have tried to access my docs from the BIOS settings on my PC with no success they are completely hidden.....and before you ask yes I like many other have now learned the lesson of backing up data....BIG STYLE... so can anyone help..I am willing to buy a basic box if anyone has one...or is prepared to loan me an old machine to try and tinker my drive into....I'm pretty desperate folks....all the photos of my daughter right through from baby to first day at school are on this...not to mention my beloved scooby collection....desperate to get the data back or access it somehow... thanks in anticipation.... Paul

  12. Paul... thanks for the pm... I realised this morning that my company from our head office in the Midlands are heavy supporters of the Teenage Cancer Trust. They have a local branch in Scotland, and I have spoken with my company about contacting them to see if we could arrange anything. I would also possibly push for our business to provide some sponsorship for the day to get snacks and a few bits n pieces for the kids.....will keep you all posted.... thanks Paul
  13. Paul Sounds like a really good idea....would you like me to investigate it further...???? I can speak to John S regarding the liabilities etc...and will be speaking to Knockhill this weekend about the Tuning show so could get their thoughts....would also be a good chance to get the press along to promote the club further.....let me know and I will make a few calls... nice one mate Paul

  19. head from Bonnybridge towards Falkirk...and you will pass the Falkirk Wheel.....have a walk along the canal towpath if the weather is good....visit the wheel...... Callander Park in Falkirk itself is also very good for the kids and dog....... if walking aint your cuppa......back towards the main Glasgow road there is a nice pub at the Locks.....rumoured to do nice food....again depends on the weather and how bored the kids are .... not a local by any means but thats what I can think of just now...

  22. YEEE HAAAAAAAAAA Well I am pleased to report that following a lengthy conversation with Big Bev (christian).....I whisked of the the Vodafone shop in Stirling and picked up a dongle thingy..Mrs C was well happy until she saw what it was for .... anyway after some little hiccups in the set up am I delighted to say that I am CONNECTED....not only that I am connected at 1.2mb twice the speed I had with BT and AOL...so RESULT I say............. I cant thank Christian enough for his advice......fingers crossed at will continue this way... like I said made...big drink and dessert on me at the next central meet..... Im of to look at Youtube clips now without them buffering every 3 seconds... Paul
  23. Whats happened Simon...you never mentioned anything when we met last night to hand over the equipment.........????......though your right its hard to please everyone...think all us RO's have been in that position SEVERAL times..........makes you wonder what to do eh...
  24. Jimmy....no my problem is with the phone line mate...I cant get a reliable ADSL connection to even connect to the net....the issue isnt with AOL as when I do have a line I can connect....my issue with AOL is after being with them for 11 years that they were unwilling to contact BT to ask for my line to be checked in more detail....apart from "yes you have a broadband line"...... Christian...sent you a message mate..would REALLY appreciate a chat about this ....... thanks all Paul
  25. I agree, as I said I'm not worried about speed to be honest ....and am prepared to pay more for a reliable connection so will speak to BT to see if they can assure me they will sort the problem out... thanks for your advice Paul
