I'm wanting to exchange the inners of my P1 door mirror for an STI one (with folding in mech), but can't get in to the screws because the mirror glass is in the way. Any ideas how to get the mirror glass out? Is it just a 'pull hard' job, or is there a technique. I don't want to yank too hard in case I break something!! Is it self adhesive? Hair dryer perhaps ?!? Anyone?? Dave

HKS do a pretty nice looking one too. Had one for a while (in my garage!) and then RS Grant bought it. Might be worth looking for too... assuming you can get someone to fit of course!

I just checked www.carparts-uk.com and they have an engine listed for (I think) a 328 E46 COUPE. No idea if it's the same engine or not, but probably worth a call. Get him to sit down first though! The supplier is in Preston : 0800 9555233

Got the PM, ta. Drop some pictures to RubytheScooby - she was drooling over my P1 last night and this won't be a million miles away from the P1 look-wise !! As you say, if it's mint, it would be a waste to use it solely as a track car.

Detects knock/detonation/pinking/pre-ignition in the engine and alerts you via the led lights. Very useful if you're running any mods to give you some advance warning of potential problems. Detonation is the cause of the majority of the sti5/sti6/P1 engine problems (as well as other models obviously, although it does seem more common on these).

Very strange !! So what actually happens then ? The wheels just lock up and you skid to a halt? If it's actually skidding and you have ABS, then it's perhaps more likely to be transmission related than brake related. Gearbox, differential, wheel bearing, CV joint?? How often does it happen? Can you make it happen or is it just random? Is it only on tight corners or striaght lines? "Technical" is probably the best place for the question, but I'd get it in somewhere to check out pronto as it could be quite nasty if it happens at any kind of speed !! Dave

Good to see all the old faces again, and a few new ones too. Apologies for not introducing myself to everyone, but I was the one that came in 3rd last and was driving the P1!! I was hoping to get round everyone after the meal, but the meet kinda broke up a bit once we got moved !! Great to meet you Sharon and apologies for not stripping off for the "lying across the bonnet" shot, but it was a bit chilli last night !! Maybe next time !!!! You might be ok if you're running OB, but I'd certainly get a knocklink fitted to keep an eye on detonation levels. I've held back on decating my P1 for worry of the big bang, but am now thinking about a remap and decat. I personally would do one without the other (having had an sti5 go bang on me !!) Dave

Hi Kenny, Scott (AKA Spooks) might know someone as he's my usual BMW reference point. I'll ask him tonight as we're both going to the meet at Ratho climbing centre. I'll keep my eyes open for an engine for you too, as I have some good contacts in the dismantling industry. I know of one yard who definitely did have one, but it was a while ago now.
