  1. that's not actually a split, it's where the turbo mates to the uppipe and is ok. If there is smoke coming from there try tightening the bolt to the left of your screwdriver. The bolt to the right is on the stabalising bracket, although it doesn't affect the seal between the turbo and uppipe, it's worthwhile seeing if it's tight as if it's a little loose it may be allowing the turbo to move leading to a leak. 2. Hi mandi, i've had a fair few stares aswell and i'm a bloke (well i was the last time i looked). I don't know if it's the noise from the car but i've even had mothers pull their kids away from the kerbside as if my car would suck em in and spit em out the exhaust...most bizzare. Funny thing is i used to get similar reaction when on my bike.
  3. 1: 18" tyres have a smaller side wall than 17's and prob your using a wider tyre, these two will show up the bumps and lines on the road more..i.e it will tramline more, you'll get used to it. 2: the tyres will have arrows on the sidewall showing you which way they should go (the arrow should be pointing forwards) 3: it looks to me like a pin from a trolley jack, check your jack to make sure, it could've been holding on a wheel or the main jacking mechanism. 4: a bit on sandpaper should clean em up a bit, dont paint it as it'll flake off soon and you may make the mating surface where the wheel mates with the disc uneven (only takes a tiny bit of dirt) leading to a wobbly wheel.
  4. East end radiators are very good, sorted mine out and just over £100 with a years guarantee iirc.
  5. I agree.. touring 12, to play with.. 10 but the zx10 is a complete nutter of a bike, too much for me, i could never use it to it's full potential on the road (not many could) and that for me would be frustrating. If you go for the 10 make sure the steering damper works well...[]
  6. Colin.... i hope your paying attention.....[]
  7. Don't worry too much about the logbook, many imports were wrongly named when arriving over here. It's prob because the dvla mark it as the closest match to a uk car they have on their register. Firstly find out if it is defo an sti, if not then i would speak to the garage. If it is an sti let the dvla know and they'll rectify the mistake. My 1995 sti2 was down as a 22b uk model in white?? when i first got it. A couple of tell tale signs it's an sti are, sti logos on seats, red inlet manifold, sti badges everywhere, intercooler waterspray and no abs and a cheap aftermarket foglight under or on the rear bumper. Engine and chassis codes are the definitave answer but the above are a start.
  8. There's also Harleys in springburn and bikerite in dalmarnock trading estate, rutherglen (across from the vw garage). I used bikerite and found em ok but it was so long ago you didn't need das.
  9. you've got far too much time on your hands dave [<)]
  10. The hairs on the back of my neck are standing up now..... Excellent.
  11. I had 512's on my sti2 and they were mega... absolutely no grip whatsoever in the wet the car felt like it was floating through bends. It would spin all 4 wheels easily in the wet, not much better in the dry loads of understeer.
  12. I do all my own work to my car but if there's something outwith my capabilities i'd only let bill (greersport) or andy f. near it. Wilky has used a few guys to get his car to where it is (and it's awesome) so he knows who's good and who's not.
  13. Ahh, the old kwaker colours, hard to tell how it'd look but if it was my bike i'd leave it as is, it looks great anyway and painting it will only devalue it anyway.
  14. Not uncommon this, your ind. kit, unless used with a good heat sheild, was prob sucking in warm air from the engine bay leading to a loss in power, it may also have needed set up to compensate for the increase in air being sucked in. your exhaust prob sounds louder now as you won't have the induction roar you get with an ind. kit, (airbox sucks the air in quieter).
  15. Technically you can but you'd need the loom and prob some sensors from the 2000 car (not cheap or easy). your options are either apexi or just to up boost a little a chip upgrade but these are getting rare as pfc's are getting so reasonable.
  16. My thoughts are with you doug.. the younger they are, the harder it is to accept. Ghostrider, Andyjdmsti is a very long standing member of this community and knows dougster very well, he meant no malice with his comments. You'll get used to us.
  17. Got it on DVD for the kids, but thinking of taking my 5 year old to see it on the big screen. Did i just say i've got it???? Eh.... i havn't really occifer!!
  18. With a standard ecu set it to just under 1.1 bar peak but if you up the boost you'll need an AFR gauge to make sure it's not running lean ( more boost needs more fuel). Typical eh?? you change one thing then have to do another to make sure it's ok. I've put an uprated chip in my ecu and now my car fuel cuts all the time as boost hits 1.2 bar peak..... But i don't care....[]
  19. Rab, he'll get back to you. He's prob trying to go through all the backlog of emails etc. as he's just back from his hols.
  20. Anyone wanna go Tractor Tipping???? KA CHOW!!!![]
  21. I tried the cheaper one (£20) without a guage and although it started the aircon again it wasn't enough to fully charge the system. The bigger one with the gauge would probably work but i'm going to add the extra 20 quid to get it recharged properly now.
  22. thats not a recirc, its a vta... if running standard ecu be careful, smell fuel, remove borewash is likely
  23. AN IPOD IN THE SCOOB!!!!![:^)] Do you know how much weight that'll add????
  24. It should be in the passenger footwell but if it's running a fancy ecu it could be anywhere, I'd try under the passenger seat (easy to get out and plug the laptop into).
  25. There was a test done a while back on the filtration of induction kits and you'd be surprised what they can let through. The blitz steel mesh fared pretty bad letting in loads of crap. One of the best was the apexi which filtered as good as the oe filter ( with more air intake). I had an aftermarket filter on my car when i got it which wasn't looked after. You should have seen the state of the intake hoses, also had a knackered maf. I now use an apexi ind. kit and have had no probs with it. ( i also use a heat sheild). Use a good quality cotton or paper filter and clean it regularly and all should be fine. If you go back to the standard box use the sti panel filter, seems to come highly recommended. P.S. I may know of a standard airbox if you want one. Johnny
