  1. It's a scam John, so those of us still on pay as you go, on the mobile, have to send a second text nearly always, to correct what we just sent the first time. Charges me twice. Partly kidding but partly true. would rather spend 300 quid on mechanical car bits or boat bits than a new i pad I must admit. I did notice what you typed but understood what you intended. Or maybe you did type "us" and it ( the AI) thought it was funny to change " us" to " is" ???. God help the next human generation. They might be allowed to think to themselves but not allowed to type what they are thinking without the great master tech company predictor censoring and correcting it first, ha ha. dont know how Floz got True Grip typed and published without some howlers inside. He is good.
  2. Maybe that's what caught "sas" out, ie his spellchecker? Right at the start of this thread Maybe he really wanted to say something like " g,day fellow scoobs, - - - ", instead of just "g". But the ai ( not the ie) Caught him out? P. Bloody S. You have no idea how many times I had to correct this to what I ACTUALLY TYPED. and it's still not right. Try doing it with a Geordie or Scottish slang and it's pure double Dutch!
  3. I left 40 years ago and thought I could spell till this bloody Apple predictive / spellchecker thing came along! ?
  4. Guess who is going to count the 20 p's when the grandkids money boxes get emptied before the hols? Will gladly drop a five pound note in instead if I find one!
  5. Weekend before last, heading down the A 68 from Carter bar/ Otterburn into Northumberland, a black Levorg with red wheels, red outside trim ( and an"older" driver??). Thought it was a newish sti from the front, until it went by.
  6. Fitted one front shock yesterday and the other this morning. Transformation of the handling! Back to where it's Japanese maker designed it to be. I would recommend anyone with an older car to consider new KYB shocks all round before a costly suspension " upgrade". not much room between the few coils to fit the spring compressors mind, the longer rear springs last year were easy to fit the clamps around and to compress but these fronts were really awkward, at least the first one was until I worked out how to wrangle it. now for new front disc splash guards, ordered already from ICP, one crumbled due to rust on these multi- layer metal self destructing items!
  7. Pity to hear,. Bad luck. For parts try Matty at MB developments ( Google search or e bay). He breaks Subarus regularly. Wing is pretty much a bolt- on job, should be easy enough if you can get the right colour. If no luck, I am sure other folks will have other suggestions.
  8. Short answer, my opinion: it's more to do with sheepish general public fear ( that may or may not come to pass) that diesels will be taxed off the roads and banned from cities. Since our flat four petrols are already relatively highly taxed and most folks who want one already pay the inflated road tax, I doubt we will see any change in value of these because of this trend. Subaru buyers and owners don't generally follow the overall trend!
  9. No knocking, but after replacing the rear shocks last year, it's just highlighted the front left is now a bit soft on damping, ( leans into right corners too easily) so time to renew the fronts!
  10. Floz, you made me feel guilty not getting the Impreza a proper Christmas present so I am about to treat it to these as a belated Xmas gift, to fit as soon as I get a slightly warmer dry day.
  11. Agree, Dementia/ Alzheimer's . A timely link, it's left to charities to do their own little bit when big Pharma business pulls out: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42633871
  12. You might find a set of new standard KYB shocks all round, refresh of any worn suspension joints, bushes etc, and a good 4 wheel alignment will transform / improve the handling totally. Otherwise Mark Harris's words about lowering only the front just a little, make a lot of sense.
  13. No car presents ( apart from Tony Masons book, just started reading it) but treated the forester to a late Christmas lunch this morning: oil change, new filter and tank of v power! Best wishes for the new year to all.
  14. Happy birthday! You're right, the next few will fly by even faster. Make the most of them.
  15. I think you are being very polite there!
  16. Nice looking car, will look at the you tube links later, cheers.
  17. Sounds like you've got the tee shirt floz. Good advice!
  18. If you're stuck, try Matty at MB developments, he breaks Subaru,s. Got a door mirror once from him, great service. Might be a bit more difficult to pack and ship a bonnet liner though? Mattybr5@MB Developments 07785 942237 Cheers.
  19. Did once put a red pinstripe and I think a few stickers on my 89 Astra 1.8 SRi but no funny ford stripes! A few drilled holes in the air intake and defluffed exhaust, and it went well enough, 8 valve low down grunt. Remember the original P6,s then the not so good early P600,s? Didn't even need winter tyres if you had P6,s on.
  20. Very true, and not just the "leccie". Where is all the lithium going to come from? and in 50 years time someone will realise the environmental damage caused by extraction, handling and battery manufacturing and eventual disposal will be worse and more impact than our CO2 generating cars ever were! Pity that some are going to make a fortune out of this going down this misled route. its a real beef of mine that the 2 free electric car charging points in the local town council car park are usually staffed by 1 or 2 taxis most of the time I pass the since one of the big taxi firms has " gone green". By the time a few more folks are forced electric, it certainly won't be free! theres a few ships anchored a mile or two off the Tyne at any one time, heard the other week these are full of imported coal waiting to be docked and unloaded! P.S. Joff, I have a photo somewhere of my kids when they were young, before the first ever run in the UK of the Escort Cosworth, a zebra striped thing up in Harwood Forest driven by Malcolm Wilson, think it was the course car. Class. (Wasn't trying to kill them, it was on the start line on stage a few mins before the countdown)
  21. Yup,. Worth spending a few ( hundred) pounds on them every now and then, even if it's now more often, to keep them going as long as possible / reasonable. Simply irreplaceable in terms of capability, and the Impreza,s are still iconic!
  22. The old forester is now 7/8 of the way to 200 k miles. Maybe the new target is a quarter of a million, but I think the rust might take a terminal bite before then? Engine still running sweet as a nut, burns no oil, etc. With the few comments about the future new motors in the Subaru uk invite and p1 threads, this really hammers home what I have said before, that I honestly believe the early 2000,s 2 litre Subaru engines ( N/A or turbo) are the global ultimate pinnacle of a balance of reliability, relative simplicity, value and performance (take your pick of the N/A plodder with pace or the turbo), that will never be matched. ah but they are poor on fuel I hear some of you out there thinking. The extra I pay for fuel ( and road tax) more than paid for itself in terms of reliability and driving enjoyment over the years. so called progress isn't always a good thing. Electronic gismo's, small highly stressed engines and the like are simply fashionable but will prove to be short lived. We need a revolution! bring back the old style 2 litre Subaru motors! And while I am at it, allow us to buy new 2 stroke outboards: light, simple, more reliable ( and a nice old fashioned aroma to the exhaust). Think I am getting old.
  23. Is that an Audi in front? Only in a car park lol.
