Get the red coolant next and you're all set for a busy but rewarding day then!

Cheers bigfellys, just that the previous point made to mine just got me thinking and could see where he was coming from, It's not all like that mind but at times it seems so. By the way did you ever get that run down to the DC museum?

Point taken.

Never seen one cracked that bad,

From above:"my advice would be be less cliquey, I understand folks want to have a laugh with their mates but if a topic is 6 pages long and 5 of those pages are pals taking the p.i.s.s out of each other then anyone looking for info is going to get fed up and go elsewhere. " Well said there. Good observations all round. Lack of replies to technical stuff is even more pronounced if ithe question is related to a non turbo version. cliquey stuff should be handled on Facebook or whatever and leave SIDC for Subaru related stuff, specific or general, but not personal insults / stuff the rest of us don't get, or cliquey

Thanks, hadn't seen or more likely hadn't read that link. Just need to scan the bit of paper now and make it digital, ha.

Haven't sorted this photo bucket lark yet so no photo to post up. Was looking through my old photos the other day and found my first ever photo I took of Colin driving, or rather the back end of a very fast legacy going through Kielder forest in the Pirelli Rally of 1992. Was in a class of his own in those days, absolutely committed, no fear, just a blur round a bend then away, fantastic noise that started me noticing and thinking seriously about Subaru,s. fantastic memory even now.

Need to try it myself to believe. How long have these clay bars been around then ? Seen them just a couple of years or so ago, I tend not to believe in the hype of owt new until well established or at east accepted by the real world if you know what I mean? Will it work on cars that are driven all year round not just the April to October crowd?.

Pity didn't have this yesterday, put 40quids worth in both cars. But thanks for posting up anyway, Still a bit time left on tem

Believe Subaru water pumps last a bloody long time. The tensioner is often replaced but advice I've heard (from a dealers workshop) and used is that if it isn't leaking or showing any signs of grease from the seal then its ok to reset and re-use. The bearings on the tensioner pulley and all other pulleys are easily checked for play, noise or any roughness by hand once the belt is off and just replace any that need to be. Found on my forester that after 120k only 2 idler wheels showed any signs of noise but I replaced all anyway (dealer didn't change any at 60k).

Ever an eye for a bargain LOL. I spotted some extra strength concentrate in WIlkinsons with 75%off. So 30odd pence per litre, and its good pink stuff. Bought 6litres ha ha. The el-cheapo supermarket ranges though are usually made with a proportion of recycled solvent so stink and always have doubts as to what the cheap stuff will do to paintwork

The snakehead down pipe comment reminds me of 15years ago I had a Daihatsu Sportrak for towing the boat (Forester is 200% better on sand). Great little revvy 1600 engine and I bought a fantastic 4 into 2 into 1 manifold and headers from AUstralia to replace the cast iron manifold and single down pipe. Not to do with noisy exhausts but what the hell!

Down our way it seems there are local campaigns every so often when residents complain to police, guess its mostly the kids in corsas and the like, so they are out to make a targeted mark, so to speak, to fix a specific problem and show the resident taxpayers a presence. Not aware of anything more sinister than that.
-
not aware of anything but will be at the Brick and Steel rally, up at Byrness spectator stage on 23rd March, just maybe a few SIDC cars could park up if others goin up ??

Take care Beefoss, you might bump into my lad out there.

I paid extra for the platinum plugs for the Forester and GX last time round- should save the little hassle of removing so often to check or change, meant to last 60K miles- has anyone used/ tried them that long ? Is it worth paying the extra for platinum plugs in a WRX?

Bit surprised today few miles west of Annan, 2PCs about 30 feet up a side road behind tall hedge with 1 holding speed gun on roof of the Volvo estste (so he could see over hedge)- sneaky or what? so much for the deterrent and high visibility theory- not. may be ne should have joined M15 or 6 or whatever. Good job there was a long line of traffic so just following that steadily at that point!

Think Ive read of a similar thing in Car Mechanics mag lately- on old style Vectra or Corsas, If parked up when brakes really hot the handbrake loosens grip when they cool. Worth a bit of research to build your case

Forgot to mention- try key in drivers door and wiggle/ switch back/forth a few times (give C. Locking time to work between switching) to see if that helps reset / bed in the microswitch, then use fob button as normal.
-
Had similar prob once, odd this only happened on really hot days - microswitch and wiring in drivers door was covered in grimy crud - could feel with fingers when inner door was panel off, but bugger to get into up at top rear behind metal panels, so loads of WD40 sprayed on over a few days and I got lucky, it fixed it. Try that first. Good luck
