  1. You need to wait till much late in the year then, since once the tiny midges start hatching out they are there all summer. Or buy some midge hats off e.bay, Highlander ones are really fine mesh and work but are a bit dark to see through if it's not sunny, or buy the cheap camo coloured things direct from China for a couple of pounds. But don't wear in public unless you really don't care what people think!
  2. Hah, cheers Scoobyjoff, You might be right. Bit boring this, but I used to go trout fishing so thought I recognised some as "little olives" that hatch out of the rivers in April and May ( and the trout eat them). Got me thinking, this drive took me from the NE coast of England to far SW Scotland ( then back again the same night) and as well as across some moors and through forests, the little car crossed bridges over at least 10 rivers that hold trout and salmon! Might need to check or change the air filter.
  3. LOL None! It's just a GX non turbo without a bonnet scoop ?. (But still had more than adequate pace on a 320 mile return trip on mainly A and B roads last evening! )?
  4. Yup,. Sounds like it might be a long time. A bunch of flowers ain't any good here. At least you can get out in the car and have a blast. Imagine she hadn't found them? You owe her big time!!
  5. This is true:. A couple of years ago, had the dog to the beach one howling freezing winters night, ( the sort that makes your teeth chatter and cheeks freeze together) got back to the car,put him in the boot ( forester) and went to get in and start the car, no keys! Emptied pockets, checked under dog, checked under car, oh shit. Wasn't till I took my mobile out of the pocket to call my own dearly beloved to bring the spare keys and bloody hell,. I had the key ring clenched between my teeth all the time. Honest.
  6. Welcome Dorset wagon,. So we guess it's a wagon and a non turbo, any pics? Look after it and it should last ages.
  7. Welcome, car pic and location?
  8. Thanks, just showing that a Subaru easily gets you to places that ordinary vehicles can't! And have fun.
  9. Just time to post a seasonal Subaru in the snow, February in borderland.
  10. Yup. Young honest apologetic lad who stopped so I took pity and saved him claiming on his insurance. If I hadn't blasted my horn just before the bang I think it would have been more than the mirror!
  11. Thanks to Matty at MB developments for posting me a replacement door mirror assembly ( quickly and cheaply) after a young lad in an Astra on my side of the road clouted and demolished my door mirror! Got off luckily, thought the front end was about to be crushed!
  12. Happy Christmas and a great new year everyone, let 2017 bring a new lease of life to our Subaru's
  13. Hi Ben,. Don't wait too long before buying,. The older ones are arguably the best ( and cheapest!)
  14. Got my letter ages ago, prob. Last year, booked into Dennis Commons and all sorted in a couple of months from hearing it affected Imprezas. Good to hear your on the way to a fix Dave WRX,. Sobbiefloz you need to see where your letter has gone - make sure you're down as the registered keeper !
  15. Totally agree, I am from the generation that watched the early legacys and Imprezas rallying, so a decent bit of tread on the tyres and a bit of clearance between the wheels and arches looks just right!
  16. Absolutely looks mint, cracking job!
  17. Good luck,. Try running a bit of cable as an extra earth wire between a metal part of the light circuit board and a bare nut on the body and see if it works.
  18. Check the earth in the side that doesn't work??
  19. Spot on, and welcome back. Post up some pics of the little jobs as you do them.
  20. Is that the hatchback or last of the " Hawkeyes" saloons? sure you will it very different, for the better, than anything you've owned before. cambelt is 60000 miles or 5 years. (105k miles in the USA for some reason) Most folks change the idler bearings and tensioner at the same time, but water pumps usually not replaced, they allegedly last forever. Cambelt, tensioner and idler kits are approx 140 pound from import car parts (OE quality parts) and can be changed in an hour and a half with no specialist locking tools etc required, so don't get ripped off at a garage asking a fortune. High mileage not an issue, So long as maintenance has been carried out including gearbox and diff oils every few years, and regular engine oil and filter changes, for example I have a forester with same mechanicals as imprezas at 162k miles with no issues, and there are many subaru's out there with many more miles. check for noisy rear wheel bearings ( tricky / expensive to replace) knock on bumps from front anti roll bar links ( easy and cheap) and corrosion on sump and front cross member below radiator, but these are easily caught and treated/ prevented before it's a problem also sticking brake caliper sliders, usually detectable by one wheel covered in loads of brake dust and the other side isn't, or a worn inner disc face or unevenly worn pads. More likely to happen after a high mileage but again, easily prevented by a little maintenance sure others will have other ideas but hope that helps a bit.
  21. Future museum piece? Older and with much more mileage and use and maybe the odd anomaly in the history, there are a couple of interesting cars here, both at 12-12.5K https://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/subaru-impreza-sti-jdm-litchfield-type-20-only-22724-miles/1174410450 https://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-wr1-147-of-500-339-left-on-the-road-/1175557000 looking at the pedigree of yours, it should be worth more, Tony's suggestion of 15 K seems spot on?
  22. Watched 10 minutes of episode 2 last night and couldn't stand any more. No better than an average daytime TV Wishy washy chat show,. Pity.
