Technical Help required....come in squirrel etc
the squiggle replied to paulc555's topic in Scottish Scoobies
<< Paul You need to be out of the car and on your hands and knees Look up in behind the steering column. There are four plugs taped up onto the loom. 2 black and 2 green. Connect black to black and green to green. Turn the ign on , press accelerator to the floor a coulpe of times. Start the car and let it tick over for 2 minutes then shut it off.........{I run the car for a mile keeping a gentle speed and the ECU will reset when it travels 1km at a greater speed than 7km/h. The Check Engine Light will flash on and off in even cycles to confirm a reset has occured} Unplug the connectors and now take the car out for a drive and make it work. make it pull from "off" boost and up to around 5500-6000rpm then change up and let the car slow down until off boost again. Do this from 2nd to 5th.......{This helps the ECU learn its new perameters for it to read from and make your STI think it is the fastest STI in the world} ECU is now reset. >> Just added 1 or 2 more pointers Grant -
What is the oil level at? A cause of the dump valve blowing out oil can be the level is too high for spirited driving. Ideally the level should sit halfway between the min and max mark on the stick. The poor starting could be the fouled plugs caused by oil ingress into the chambers so get the plugs out and check condition. The oil ingress into the dump valve could be the breathers blowing too much oil into the intercooler area. Check the Positive Crankcase Ventalation valve is not gunged up as this would try and create a vacuum in your crankcase. Take all the induction crank breathers off and give them a damn good clean out. This will give a better circulation of gases in the crankcase and should stop it drawing oil into the induction tract Best to do the easy things first......... 1. Check the oil level when cold........halfway between min and max is best for spirited driving 2. Remove, check condition of plugs and clean/replace said plugs with PFR7B's 3. Remove all of the plastic induction components inc breathers and valves and give them a damn good cleaning with Carb Cleaner Try car and see how it is. If fine and dandy......Thank Squirrel for his advise and drive like a man possesed If still rough...............Try this next one Give it a compression test on all cylinders to check for the obvious signs Oil mixed in with Petrol in the combustion chamber will lower the octane of the charge quite substancially Best of luck Grant

***CANCELLED*** * * Splendid September Soiree * *
the squiggle replied to micra_wrc's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Sorry for the inconvenience The run is not cancelled as such but mearly postponed for a short while I am looking at holding it on Sunday the 16th of October ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have a couple of reasons for cancelling/postponing the run It is way too close to the run being organised by Jamie It is apparently the Sept weekend for the Edi folks and the roads chosen could be problematic Could coincide with the harvest time which would mean a massive increase in slow moving farm equipment My run test pilot might not even make it ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am thinking of a small run on the 11th as a recce if anyone would care to join me. I am opening up the recce to the public as a way of softening the blow of cancelling the full run and the fact that Playsatan would kill me if i postpone his cars tarmac debut Grant -
Some peeps think it is or "Public Message" Grant

What should the next modification be then?

<< Acceleration, acceleration, acceleration. The ability to drive it like you have just stolen it 24/7. The shocked look on peoples faces who own cars worth 10 times what yours is worth as you rip past them, The hundreds of man hours you have put into perfecting such works of art such as your air intake or your heat shield, and your ace driving tekniques such as subtle mouth foaming, leaning forward 130 before you know it acceleration or suicide cornering, all paying off as you realise the power you have always wanted. Or fix a few bashes that give the squirrelmobile a bit of character. You decide matey!!! >> God bless you Callum Years of practise to get to such a high level of foaming and the suicide technique comes from 350 miles a day round rural roads doing the Postman Pat thing. The battle scar down the side does give it a bit of individuality. Had a wee jive with a M3 on the Drymen road and it felt good when he kept on looking in the mirror and i was grinning back at him, now that i can grin with confidence. Grant -

<< Squirrel...you haven't said what suspension and brakes you are running. I know you left-foot brake so that gives a fair old strain on the stoppers so a set of 6 pots shouldn't go amiss. I reckon you have enough power for the open road so get the handling matched to the power for the ultimate buzz. If you really want a buzz get the exhaust quieted down and go road rallying! Noise checks! >> At the moment i am running std 2 pots ( ) with Ferodo pads and std STI suspension which gives a firm enough ride at the moment Got my eye on a set of Brembo's that the owner is looking to upgrade. Suspension wise i am looking at a set of Cusco and Powerflex bushes Road rallying sounds good but i would have to bring the co-pilot up to scratch on which way the map should be facing.... and silencing a Scoob is a treasonable offence. Does your car have the Air Throttle?, which i believe was fitted to some GT4 WRC's and gives a mild form of Anti lag. Hats off to the Toyota Grant

<< << Headers and up-pipe are getting ported soon to aid the spool on the turbo >> Surprised you haven't done that already mate?! I know you have your contacts for getting things cheap, but if replacing the car soon, why bother doing any more? Thay's what i say. >> Now have Dremel so will port soon as i can be arsed fighting with the studs I reckon the car will sell better if it is a giving out a genuine 300 horses plus I can stick an advert on it and drive it round all the chav cruise meets and surely some Burberry headed freak will go ask his drug dealing uncle to finance his choice of killing himself. Dent fixers are winning....... Grant -

Chris. Dont worry i am taking it to Andy to finish off but i fancy having a fiddle myself. I will be happy if i can get it to 1bar, running smoothly with little or no det then i will let AndyF push the limits of the new spec. Keep us posted on the injector/pulley situation Headers and up-pipe are getting ported soon to aid the spool on the turbo Johnny. Will try to get over on Sunday then we can plug in the ECU to see if you like, which i am sure you will. Good to see the "Power is the way to go" winning the poll Grant -
FOR SALE: Blitz Super Sound Blow Off Valve - NOW SOLD
the squiggle replied to jacqui_robb's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Cheers J Really need to fit a dump valve of some description to take the strain off the new turbo. The old TD05 survived for 2 years without any dumpvalve in place at all but the new one is a tad more fragile and needs either a Recirc or a VTA. The std recirc i have is proving troublesome to relocate with the big intercooler in place. Glad i helped you find love again. Now be a bit of a shock to actually drive past the Shell garage...... << Who gives a feck!!! just get that ecu over to me boy!!! On a more serious note... enjoy it as it is, i quite like the look, it's a refreshing change from all the minters you always see, besides it's not that bad m8. Johnny >> The ECU will be with you soon my good friend. I just need to ensure the SQUIRREL Map is sufficient for day to day running before i let it go to its new home. I also like the way it looks, it stops it recieving unwanted attention from sticky fingers. Grant -
