  1. In that case the valves will also be burnt, as may the cylinder walls, as may the heads, as may the pistons, as may the turbo, as may the exhaust......... If the tappets were too tight then they wouldn't let the valves CLOSE and the engine would run like a bag of bones. The resultant unburnt fuel that would inevitably be burning everywhere would burn off the oil film on the cylinders, it would burn right through the turbo and exhaust not to mention getting into the sump. As mentioned already - If I was you I'd be asking for more than what you are getting. For all the price of pistons I would be wanting them as well. I would also make sure I was in contact with a straight shooter at Nobles and make it perfectly clear that if anything was seen to be even slightly wrong then it should be pointed out. I hope you get this sorted soon mate.
  2. Another thing I will say is don't rush yourself too much to get another one. Make sure you wait for the right car. After I smashed my first one I was so keen to banish the memory of the experience and get back in a Scooby that I bought almost the first one I came across without properly thinking about it. It was a mistake because the one I got wasn't a patch on the first one and I lived to regret it. So take your time. What's another month if you've been waiting for years to get one?
  3. If you buy a Bugeye STI then the 'prodrive style' car had the high level spoiler - alternatively you might find another car that has had it fitted. Don't let a lack of spoiler put you off as you could easily buy one and fit it. Not sure what you mean about the scoop "as opposed to the turbos with the smaller scoops". The STI scoop is one size for each MY, although it got much larger on the Blobeye - but again don't let it put you off. You could find a standard STI in blue that will have the gold wheels, decent scoop, and high level spoiler as standard. Or just buy John's (X444WRX) old modified WRX PPP from Ian Grieve's in Falkirk. I can vouch for both the car and garage being excellent.. Speak to Gav and see what he says before looking too much further.
  4. Hi mate, If you think you are pushing the budget with a Blobeye STI then why not think about a nice clean Bugeye STI? I've had 2 Blobeye STIs but on the way to getting them I drove a couple of Bugeyes and was well impressed. From what you are saying all you want/need is a nice clean Scoob that runs well, so I think a nice Bugeye would suit you perfectly. Obviously the looks can divide opinion but personally I quite like them now. Cheers, Mark
  5. Looks a cracker mate! Black is worth it for those few days that it is actually clean..
  6. Ruddy hell you got a black one! I'll be keeping an eye out for that down your neck of the woods... First of all I wouldn't worry about the 2.5. As far as I'm aware the issues with the 2.5 in the hatch is down to the map - which obviously doesn't affect the Hawkeye. The only 2.5 issues I've heard of in the past were concerning WRXs. I'm not sure if a full decat will bring the light on - some do and some don't. The actual ECU emission monitoring is the same as the Blobeye so I don't think it's a new fangled system that you need to worry about. The main issue is that if you fit a full decat then you should have it mapped anyway - and as you are negating the PPP by fitting the decat, then you might as well. I would recommend making sure you have the exhaust you want fitted, then fit a decent panel filter and remove the resonator, do any other little bits that you feel like and get it mapped by AF. It's perhaps a bit of cash to spend just now but once it's done I think you'll be happy with the results for some time to come.. Awesome car by the way.. Cheers, Mark
  7. Yeah I've probably had it a good week or two though! Just forgot to tell you! Car looks great mate. Hope you are enjoying it!!
  8. Mate that looks awesome... BUT I WOULD SAY THAT!!! The grille looks really good, I was going to get it done myself. Glad to see it's being well looked after. Oh and by the way I got my retention certificate so it's all good. P.S. - Not sure who the manufacturer of the wheels is. I bought them from PhilMC on here and then had them powdercoated. Don't think he knows what they are either though. They did have 'highspeed' centre caps if that helps. Mark
  9. Yes. Before I got the full lot done on my Hawkeye I started by just changing the centre section, then went on to replace the 'cat' pipe and the backbox - all for Hayward & Scott. That's what gave it all the noise. I later added a Meercat 100 cell Downpipe and had it mapped, but if you're just after a bit of noise and attitude then fire in a new cat pipe, centre section and backbox and you'll be sorted. Strictly speaking should be no dire need for a remap as you still have your main cat (and therefore your main restriction) in the downpipe. Then again if you later go to add e.g. a Meercat DP then that will join on to the centre section (and remove the 'cat' pipe section).. so might be as well to get the full lot done at once and get it mapped.
  10. I regularly drive there from Glasgow, go surfing for a few hours and drive back in the same day. It's not THAT far.... Plus it's a good road...
  11. Sorry to hear about this mate.
  12. Ok i'll try... (1) Absolutely NOT normal. Advise checking it out/getting it checked out ASAP. (2) The spray does not spray water INTO the intercooler. It simply sprays OVER the fins of the intercooler (external). It is to help with cooling of the charge air because cooler air = denser air = more fuel able to be burned for given air = more power. Although it is also handy to clean dust from the surface of the intercooler which will also aid heat transfer. Don't worry yourself about this button. There is no time you HAVE to push it. It will not make one blind bit of difference in your normal driving, so strike it off your list of concerns!! (3) Always use high performance tyres with the correct speed rating and a good reputation. Good tyres for around £100 per tyre include Goodyear Eagle GSD-3, Pirelli P-Zero Nero, Bridgestone Potenza REO-40. Avons may also be ok. Basically use something decent and do yourself and the car a favour. You say wheels are the "normal 18". The normal wheels are 17" and wear 225/45/17. You must have different wheels from standard if they are 18". (4) Normal service will be an 'intermediate' service (basically an oil service). Oil and filter change and a few bits and bobs. "full detailed" service could be either the big service due after 3 years which is more comprehensive and includes gearbox and diff oils etc. Or it could be a cambelt service due at 5 years/60k miles. It depends on the age and mileage of your car. This will govern what service you need. Your car should be serviced every year - again it's well worth it. (5) If you have much "rumble" out your standard exhaust then it's probably not standard! A well recommended place is Meercat exhausts in Kilbirnie (near Glasgow). They do amazing work and certainly won't rip you off. They can do whatever you want. Alternatively there is a myriad of different exhaust options available off the shelf. I had a Hayward & Scott centre section and backbox on my last Scooby and it sounded amazing! Not too loud but a lovely noise. If by "grunt" you mean power - the best way to do this is replace the exhaust system and then have the car remapped by Andy Forrest Performance (near Edinburgh). As far as the exhaust system is concerned, replacing the Downpipe and 'cat pipe' will give you the best gains (but may lead to MOT failure if you use fully decatted items - sports cat is a good option). (6) I'm not the best to ask about uploading pictures. Somebody else can help you with that. Good luck, Cheers, Mark
  13. Hi mate, Try 'Admiral' or 'Elephant' (they are part of the same group). I've always used Admiral for the Scoobies and they were easily the cheapest, plus a very good company to deal with. Cheers, Mark PS - That white Scooby of yours is AWESOME!! Such a shame you can't bring that across...
  14. Grant this is my mate's CSL. It's an absolute beauty of a car. Plus as close to a non-depreciating car as you are likely to get these days..
  15. Where did you advertise it? I've not seen an advert on here... or have I missed it? I sold mine a few weeks ago. Only place I had it advertised was on here and first viewer bought it for good money..
  16. Me too.. I thought it was an impending AFP announcement.......
  17. To be honest it doesn't surprise me. The way I saw a traffic BMW being driven last week on the Eastbound M8 coming out of Glasgow was nothing short of disgusting. 4 in the afternoon on one of the most dangerous sections of road in Scotland. No lights or sirens so didn't appear to be attending anything. Snaking in and out of every lane, undertaking people, cutting people up.... culminating in driving right up the hole of a seemingly well-driven black X5 and pulling it just before the M80 slip road. Glad nobody was badly hurt, and surprising, because that section of road is massively fast if so desired, and especially at 0330!!
  18. I say credit where it is due!! Well done. Another excellent write up and I look forward to the next. Regardless of what happens for the rest of the season that is an excellent start and effort from yourself so take confidence from that and keep aiming high. What will be will be! Cheers, Mark
  19. The Scooby is already gone mate!!! Went about 5 weeks ago! Was advertised in for sale section on here. I tried to PM you a link at the time in case you were interested but your inbox was full, just assumed you had seen it! So I don't have a flat-4 in my life at all just now! Plan is to get myself a classic (Type-R or STI RA probably) in a little while (depending how long I can hang off for) but that will just be a bit of a toy. I've got myself a belter of a VW Transporter van which I'm currently having converted into a bit of a half-camper, half surfing/biking machine.. That's the daily runner now! Probably aim for another Scooby within the next year anyway. Once I need a 'family car' though I reckon a Freelander 2 would do the job. She's not keen on Range Rovers so it would be a compromise.. Course I'll need to win the lottery first..... Take it you're still rocking the '2-scoob' look then?
  20. I think he's spun you a yarn regarding the CEL due to the car running out of petrol on the dealership forecourt - However it could be down to him using the wrong petrol on the way up the road (because it's cheaper). You should be running it on super (97 RON +) so if he's put 95 in then it might be down to that. That's not for sure though as in the past I've had to put in 95 a couple of times and haven't had a light on. In theory it could be the cause though. From what you say about the whining and whoosing it sounds like your resonator box in the offside inner wing has been removed. It's a common modification and does make things a bit louder and enable you to hear the standard dump valve opening. You say it's still the standard airbox and not an induction kit so could be resonator removal. The other whining noise COULD be from the pillar-less door seals. To be honest that's usually more of a buzzing noise but it does happen at high speed. If I was you mate I'd be very careful with the car until it's been checked out. It may have been modified and not remapped, or something along those lines - either way it could be a disaster if not checked out quickly. Good luck!!
  21. John if it was me I'd take the Audi. But then again I'd take a Freelander 2 over both of them.. and possibly will in the future. An option?
  22. My Hawkeye only had one reverse light mate.
