  1. The Japanese cars are 2.0 litre for Rally Homologation purposes. They have always been 2.0 litre and will remain that way. I've never heard anything about UK going back to 2.0 so as far as I know it's still going to be 2.5 all the way. Having only owned UK cars I can't comment on the JDM 2.0, but by all accounts it's stonger, higher revving, very responsive and generally very good! Twin-scroll turbo as well (single scroll on UK cars). Have you tried a UK/EURO 2.5 yet? I'd strongly recommend that. I went from the 2.0 to the 2.5 and was blown away. The 2.5 is awesome! Cheers, Mark
  2. Maybe you are just going through a bad spell with the car, as we all do at times when they are needing a few things. Then again if you don't trust, and as a result, don't like the car anymore then maybe just as well to get rid of it. I can't comment on the Evo having never owned one, other than to say I do get tempted myself quite often! If you had to go that way I'd maybe go for a nice VII... a bit newer than your RB5 at least. I know you're not keen on a newage Scooby but I would urge you to give one a go, and you could get a cracking reliable mental STI for a lot less than £17-20K.. Good luck, Mark
  3. All the best with the hunt for 10 seconds mate! I'll be watching intently. I think the car looks great, and unique. And as you said, you didn't build it for anyone else! So happy days. I think you and your car are also proving to be a bit of an inspiration for quite a few people on here to get their fingers out and have a go and see what happens! The more pictures and coverage the better! Cheers, Mark
  4. Don't think you'll hear many negative comments John! I've only got an air filter so not much to say, but if I had the money to spend big, then Cosworth parts would be right at the top of my list. Cheers!
  5. No there would be much more to it than that Stoo. The map is custom to each car and engine, and not just a "chip" type like some people use. No two custom maps will be exactly the same. I say leave it as it is, but good luck.
  6. I did my last one with Auto Glym Engine and Machine cleaner. Sprayed a lot on and agitated it where it was needed with a paintbrush, then gave it a good rinse off with water (no pressure, just a plastic bottle). After that I sprayed it all over with Auto Glym Vinyl & Rubber care, and then just left it all to dry. It came up REALLY well, and the V&R care makes all the surfaces look really good, especially the plastics. Whole process never took long either. I didn't actually cover anything up before cleaning, just went for it, but in hindsight I would cover a bit more up next time. Cheers
  7. Lovely car mate.. Mon the Hawkeyes!
  8. Lovely Scooby mate. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one... Any idea what has been done to the headlights?? And more to the point how I can go about getting it done to mine?? They look amazing! Mark.
  9. It's not narrow!!! It might be sloped, muddy, long grass down bottom, mossy bog up top.... but it's not narrow!! Just feels that way cause you're running downhill.. Mark
  10. Only person still kicking about is Rory Macnab, and he's a good mate of mine, but apart from that I don't talk to anyone I was at college with.. The 2.5 engine in the Hawkeye is amazing, in my opinion so much better than the euro/uk 2.0 (i've not driven a JDM 2.0). But then again you can put a 2.5 in anything for pretty cheap these days so not an issue! Go for a Hawkeye mate.. If you want a look at my car sometime to help you make up your mind then give me a shout.
  11. Got on well with my 2nds. Passed everything and got promoted pretty much as soon as I got my results, so can't complain! Hoping to be back for Chiefs in just over a year maybe. Did Malcolm ever get back and do his orals again? He just failed them which was a shame. I mind him saying you were living in Glasgow as well. I'm in Shawlands, just off Pollokshaws road. Who are you working for now anyway? What age of STI are you looking for? I've had 2 Blobeyes and have a Hawkeye now. They are awesome!
  12. Accy ramp aye that's what it was!! What happened to the Teg? I was back for my 2nds with Malcolm Innes and he told me you'd had problems with gearboxes? What classic do you have now?
  13. 'Real' name is Mark Currie.. I was in the higher (is that what it was called?) class with big Rory, Murray, that d*** Martin, Jonny, and the P&O guys etc.. you were in the other class with wee George and the Buckie boys and that crowd.. We were there at the same time for about 3 years mate! In fact were you 5-phase? If you don't remember my name you'd defo know my face cause we all spent enough time together standing outside that place smoking!
  14. 450/500 (ish) in a Hawkeye... Maybe next year for me.. Similar level to Andy F's Spec-C, and look what that is capable of (in the right hands obviously).
  15. Alright Graeme, I finished in 2003 as well mate, but was obviously tucked away from human contact in the engineering block. I'm on the Rover just now, but going to the Tackler in December - back in the North Sea. The Chancellor is Canadian flag now I think. I take it you were with Maersk for a while then? I'm not surprised they have laid off cadets, everyone else is getting it as well.. they have asked for 120 redundancies from Containers and Tankers. Supply is safe but everyone is leaving of their own accord.. The whole company is in turmoil. I quite fancy going to Cal Mac sometime in the future, but might hang on here for my Chiefs first then think about a move. I know the Jack man as well but not seen him in years!! There certainly is a few wild stories from Tinny..... have you ever been over? It's a belter of a road apart from all the blind single-track corners and crests, but that's part of the fun!! What's the latest with your engine then? what actually happened to it? Are you still running standard internals? and what power and torque were you putting out up until it went pop?? Cheers..
  16. Nice one Joe, Scooby is looking good.. Let me know how you get on with the BCs because I'll be getting a set pretty soon.. My car is starting to sound like a woodpecker.. And after having the standard s****e shocks replaced on both of my last 2 cars I'm not doing it again..
  17. Still with Maersk mate! nearly 10 years now. Sailing as 2nd engineer but hoping to go for my Chiefs in about a year and a bit. After that who knows. This is my last trip in Brazil actually. I'm going back to the North Sea in December to a 9 month old anchor handler. Unlucky with the shinty mate... but that's the mighty Kyles for you! Cheers, Mark
  18. You won't see me mate, I'm in Brazil on a dinosaur of an anchor handler! The Scooby is there though so you might see that if my old man takes it out for a warm up!! Who you playing for? (Bute obviously) but Juniors or Seniors? I won the Sutherland cup in 1998 with Kyles Juniors and we were unbeaten that year, but don't play at all anymore because I live in Glasgow most of the time. Good luck though, that pitch is a nightmare! Run it along the top wing but don't even attempt the bottom or you'll get lost in the weeds. Hope it stays dry for you. I'll stop for a chat if I spot you in Rothesay or Tinny sometime. I do a bit of shooting across in Rothesay from time to time. Would love a look at that Spec-C of yours. Cheers..
  19. Big for the black mesh, makes the front look a lot tidier and more aggressive - which can only be a good thing!
  20. Aye there was a few characters in those halls! You were in Lorraine's class eh? The heady days of rigging the pool table and getting fined £30 for it by that old d1ck Jim! I think I do know your mate but don't think I ever knew his real name cause he had a nickname (can't mind what though!).. Bought an Integra type-r after he left college? From Rothesay? Same guy I reckon. Never knew he had a Scoob now though! My old man used to get his diesel off your old man as well when he was at the fishing, that's how I remembered your name. I'm from Tighnabruaich so just around the corner.
  21. Sorry to jump in here.... Joe I think I was at college with you at the start (in the halls).. I'm an engineer with Maersk right enough but fairly sure you were there for the first while anyway.. I was there 2000-2003.. Graeme I was probably there with you as well! Cheers, Mark..
  22. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics won a massive tyre test in EVO magazine a year or so ago, against a lot of opposition.. So they must be good..
