Yeah...very funny! It's only May!!!!

I wouldn't really fancy going there if I'm honest with you. But suppose you have to go where your employment journey takes you.

    Jee....zo mate :rotfl:

Forewarned is forearmed or so they say! Like i said, keep yer head down and don't do anything stupid and you will be fine. I have some VERY scarey pictures if you would like to see them ?

  2. Thanks guys, thats useful to know.

It looks like I'll be commuting to Robert Gordon University which I believe is on schoolhill road, and hopefully Gordon will be commuting via chopper to work every 2weeks-1 month :gay::D so the scoobies might be parked at home all day and obviously at night. I'll probably end up using bus/bike/train? if traffics anything like the city centre of Glasgow just now!

To give an insight- I live in Falkirk and in the highest car theft area...even when I lived in an area of Cumbernauld that was just as bad and you had to ensure your car didn't even have a ballpoint pen in view, although it was more performance cars that were/are knicked due to joyriding etc. My previous scooby and works car got all scratched (on purpose), mirrors were smacked backwards and snapped off more than once, tyres deflated, bottles smashed right beside it...the list goes on.

Just looking for areas where that's least likely to happen! Shall we say a bit more respectable.

We intend to move there for a number of years for the duration of my masters degree  and may continue there depending of job offers afterwards..before the overseas move.

So it will probably be renting initially to find our feet and check out the areas etc. Won't be for a little while yet but like to keep an eye on fluctuation on prices over a period before selecting where to go!

Anyone with properties to rent out can let me know

Renting in Aberdeen or the imediate area will cost a small fortune if you want something with safe parking. My advice would be to head out of town to the North / North East and you will get a small semi detached house for the same price as a flat in the city. I live right on the NE coast about 25 miles from Aberdeen and have comuted more or less every day for the past 14 years -you do get used to it! If you are going to RGU in Schoolhill then the bus is your best option unless you are near a railway station (Aberdeen rail station to RGU is about a 10 minute walk).

I would suggest Ellon or Cruden Bay / Newburgh if you fancy living on the coast. If you want to go inland then Inverurie, Insch, Kintore etc are all good places but they will be more expensive that the others i've mentioned but they do have rail links to the city.

Not realy sure of where to suggest to the south of the city? Have a look on here - www.aspc.co.uk

    hope this helps a little.

  3. Hopefully will get to eventually mate, I'm working on it!

Going to do a masters in mechanical and offshore engineering, so hopefully get a good position. Providing I graduate with merits I should gain chartered status straight away and I'm coming up to Aberdeen in November to get a bit more of an insight into it all. At the end of all of it, the both of us should be working offshore, but Gordon will be trying it out in the next few months. Although I don't really fancy this whole "danger money" thing if it's Nigeria :gay:

I've spent a lot of time in West Africa over the years with a lot of that time spent in Nigeria. If you look after yourself it's no more dangerous than Aberdeen on a Friday night at chucking out time! Biggest danger is when the ex pats go out and get pissed up and upset the locals or when you are working in the swamp areas.

  4. Totally different - bit more lag then the power thumps in and we have warp speed, silver WRX had smoother and more progressive power delivery. The steering is sharper too. Handling is similar but I did miss the Whiteline alloy drop links on the Skye trip, that said I've a shiny new kit sitting waiting to be fitted.

Oh and have I mentioned it's louder, much, MUCH LOUDER!!

Got a Prodrive back box on the way so should have a Blitz Nur spec up for grabs soon.

Loud? fcukin right it is - i was almost deafened following you in Inverness - ace!

  5. I've worked for Weatherford for 20+ years now and spent more years than i should have as a Casing Hand. The only place i have ever seen a spinning chain used was in Oman and you can be sure i stood as far away as possible when they were throwing it round the pipe!

These guys on the C5 program are nuts and have obviously had the full labotomy!

We used to joke that anyone in a casing or drill crew who used their fingers to order more than 4 beers always needed to use both hands!

As for the guys going up into the derreck while thay are still drilling - well they must be completely :brickwall: stupid. I was on a rig when they did this and the riding belt line got caught in the travelling block and they guy was pulled through the Fingers at the monkey board level - made chips outa him, not very nice at all.

  6. i sneaked in as well when they had the 2 black cars stopped

I have to give thanks to the Boys in Blue - they spent the best part of an hour trailing me around Skye looking for a garage that could supply me with a new tyre. OK i didn't get one but I was greatfull for their efforts none the less. And the friendly bit of advice they left me with "tell yer mates to slow down" was appreciated as well, they "couldnae be a***d" with any hassle !! :hello:

  7. Well, even with my "off road" moment i thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Great company and good to meet everyone (ok curry was sheit) but a great weekend. Borders run sounds good to me..............

Thanks to everyone involved in the organising of the weekend, fantastic fun even though i was one of the "lost boys" as well........... :hello:

  8. Thanks folks, i'll make a call to the garage but don't expect to get anywhere with a claim as i've no hard evidence of the incident, but for sure i'll put the wind up the :D

If it wasn't so far away i'd go up and put the assholes windows in!

  9. sorry to hear about that guys, sounds like a right tw*t

I doubt I would have moved... lorry or no lorry. I wouldn't have been in any rush to go anywhere... especially if I had seen any of the antics forcing folk off the road

23 of you and only 1 of him.... why didn't somebody stop him?

eh............smash head on into a lorry at "silly mph" or take to the ditch......easy choice for me i'm afraid.

  10. Aye the guy is obviously a moron. Too late to do much about it now but if I find out where the ***** works i'll be sure to phone the garage owner and tell him what a nob end he has working for him............. :D

Might take Dod the Rottie up to see him - 58 kgs of killer dog might just make him see sense. Dog would probably try to lick him to death to be honest............. :P

  11. You just cant win with these people! :P

Dont envy the long, long trip home like that though, so many good roads and temptation, but not being able to do anything about it... Its bad enough having to drive to Aberdeen from Glasgow on a space saver, as I had to do a year or so ago... at least there was no corners to contend with! it was just dull, but having to cope with the handling round some of those roads... Nightmare!

Glad you did get home ok though! :D

Aye, it wasn't much fun i can assure you - thank christ I had BrianM's double Top Gear driving music to listen to, again, again and again! Went straight to the local and got absolutely fcukin hammered and felt dodgy all day yesterday - what a great weekend!

Aye, it was a great weekend all round, spoiled a wee bit for me with the puncture but hey ho that's how it goes sometimes. Great pictures folks, pig sick i missed most of the run. Took me almost 7 hours to get home with a pit stop in Huntly to get rid of the curry! Was passed by a guy in a HiLux towing a caravan just outside Kingussie - oh the shame of it........ :D

Anyways, new tyre on order and then i'll get the suspension etc checked out but i think it's OK as it didn't fall to pieces on the way home. And get this - i was stopped, TWICE by the local constabulary on the way wondering why i was going so slow!! FFS, that's a first!! Anyways, hope we can do it again some time and my best wishes to Jon and Debs.

  13. I run an '03 plate Mondeo 1.8 piece of sh*t if ever there was one. Hasnae got enough power to pull yer Granda off yer Grannie but it does 450 miles to a tank of petrol. No way would i post pictures of it on here............ :P

Currently worth around £100 each ;)

Signatures are on the base so probably a stencil or something?

Took the car off the base and it was made in Portugal by Trofeu.

  15. Well, got the thermostat out yesterday and dunked it in some boiling water, no movement what so ever. So that solved that one!

New thermostat and coolant from Subaru and its sorted! The coolant I was told to get was phosphate free.

Simple fix, cheers for the help!

Good news mate, you must be relieved.
