neils going to try and nip in tomorrow and see if theres any obvious signs of cause
i.e hole in block
-
Never met you Jimser, but that is gutting to see, especially with it being a special car.
Why not hunt down a Spec C Type RA-R?
still a bit too steep for me mate
-
What??? he did do something wrong he was set up to go back past me and only wi around 500 bhp lol
Joke btw Mon the Bomber
aye i still cant beleive i blew up my engine trying to keep up greig
-
Cheers Jim!
Thats the spirit mate! Its only a car, and no one was hurt thats the main thing!
Lightly modded new car my erse! If I could do it all again I would go for a 2 door classic with the wide arch "22b" grp kit keeping body weight down and a 2.35 all singing and dancing lump with a silly turbo.
Not trying to influence you in any way of course!!
My car is only in for a wee service and to keep it out the snow
Good luck mate.

cant say the widebody 2 door hasn't crossed my mind lol.its a bit like when i wrote off the wrx i kept saying
"right thats it moddings for mugs ,you'll no catch me doing that again"but we all know what happened next.
yea steve did mention there was no rush for the service as you were working away mate
cheers greig, glad you were there today to adviseNo probs Jim had the training bout time to use it.
just gutting tho for you mate anything else just ask Grieg
thanks greig, sorry i didn't get the chance to have much of a chat today.no doubt catch up another time

Rex Rocket
Borheid Bomber
????????????????
grant i really don't know what my next move will be,if i could buy the same car again as minted as the one i
had then that would be my first choice.as already talked about by text i'm keeping my options open as per type r but it would need to be a minter of a fresh import or enthusiast owned car, just have to wait and see
It was on fire as soon as the white smoke appeared JIm i could see it in my mirror had to be oil that went up then took the fuel lines.Greig
cheers greig, glad you were there today to advise
some video footage of what jim went through.
thanks for the pics/vid chris
I can recommend a Hawkeye STi... dont be tempted into one of those old 'classic' things that people bang on about Jim.Cheers,
Grant
see above lol, never been into the newage v classic thing but i reckon the bug spec c has the best of both worlds
ie. not much heavier than a classic with a stronger chassis
Jesus Christ Jim!Im so sorry you've lost all that hard work, but Im very very glad no one was hurt.
Roll on your next project :D
The last one was a cracking read!
The Bomber is dead, long live the bomber!!!
Callum W
don't think the next one will be as heavily modified callum but can't see it being totally standard either.
will have to start thinking of what i can do a bit different next time
how's yours coming along?seen it at steves the last couple of times i've been through there.
lovely car mate
-
Motul 300v 15/50.
Cheers,
Grant
same here,good stuff
-
Jim, can't tell you how gutted I am for you. I'm sure it won't even have sunk in yet.
Can anything be slavaged or is it pretty much fubar'd?
pretty much fubar'd mate
Jeez o m8, all your hard work away in a few minutes.hope the insurance coughs up a good payout for such a unique car.
At least you got out safely / I take it catlin was not with you?
You can imagine how different things could have been.
Chin up, and no more importing we all can't take all the suspense this year
no mate caitlin wasn't there thankfully, though when i phoned to tell her what had happened she
seemed quite relieved that she wouldn't have to pax in it again lol
-
So sorry mate Gutted for you
cheers for all the replies folks
not sure what started the fire and never will unfortunately.car was running fine, overboosting to 1.95bar
but thats nothing excessive.felt like it had fuel cut or similar and then an almighty bang,no power and a big puff of white smoke
stopped the car, first thought was oh well there goes the block,i'll get it towed home and plan the next stage.
saw the amount of smoke still coming out the engine bay, jumped out the car and went to open the bonnet but
the fire was well under way.too late, greig phoned the fire dudes and ahem 30mins later they turned to put out the fire by which time as you can imagine it was totally fecked.
not sure what i'll do next, the spec c is a hard act to follow
-
as a few already know i had a bit of mishap earlier today with the spec c
not the nicest of things standing watching your car deteriorate for 30 mins after all the time, effort
and £ that went into it but thats life.
-

got a rollcage to fit and crash helmet at the ready for the next run
-

buyer looks like a collector of rare items, just hope not a wheeler/dealer
-

Yes Professor, instead of seeing how many fruit pastiles it would take to choke a Peregrine Falcon we could see how much boost a bugeye Spec C can take
yea mate shinsinaki reckons it should take 2 bar ok but just have to see how it goes, would like to change the fuel mix and take the methanol out of the tank and inject it in to the inlet via the aquamist.considering this e85 stuff as an alternative to the toluene/methanol mix but not sure if it will give the same benefits?
-

Hows the std block at just above std boost?
going fine mate and after speaking to that well known engine builder fron penicuik
shinsinaki whitson im considering upping the boost a bit this year.
-
well since its that time of year when everyone is planning the next batch of mods, heres a few of my plans................................
should be good eh?
-
first 2.5 to be using Gas O Ring system?
-
Grant, there are many compaies out there that will sell you a 'Race' alternator for circa £300, however, they are standerd equipment on a Diahatsu Charade
Jim, spacers are Ally, nothing sinister there, but excellent work from Carl as usual.
good stuff, looking forward to see it in action this year
-
what are the manifold spacers made of john?
the avcs heads will certainly help with low down torque/spool up.nice to see the newage cars were good for
something lol
