scientific steve Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 i dont like that one little bit but i can see it from the rally point of view, i felt that the impreza was pushed to it's limits and that other cars, like the focus, zara and pug were better in the very tight twisties so subaru HAD to do something to keep up dont get me wrong, i think that the impreza is still a world class performer but other companies have had a few years now to catch up and have had something to set their sights on. but did they have to come up with THAT ???????
STi_Bandit Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Ohhhh Dear [:'(], have to say not for me Bandit
oobster Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Now that just isn't nice. BUT... how many people were saying that when the first shots of the bugeye started showing up? Then the blob? Then the hawk? Still, I don't think an 08 will ever be sitting on my drive.
4Hero Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 last scooby for me I'm afraid. This is absolutely hideous [:@] Audi RS4 next []
kloon Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Why ? [:'(] I presume there's only a hatchback version and no saloon ? Saloon MIGHT look a bit better.
Auldy Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 wot a mess!! its went from rally legend to family run about wots with the change 2 hatch back?? think the designers nd shot [6]
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Dreadful .................hawkeye for my next car then ! Cal
jamesm Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 It is certianly different. The biggest thing is the move away from the saloon to the hatch, makes it look more run of the mill, just like any other hatch. I don't mind the front end, but it needs a boot at the back!! [:S] My Bugeye isn't perhaps the prettiest car on the road but that didn't bother me, but had it been a hatch then I would have probably bought an Evo. Is the new Evo a hatch, can only picture the front end? Having only just bought a Bugeye, I think I am a long way off even being in a position to buy the new model anyway. [] But then surely we buy these for how they drive.....?
iainc Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Not a fan of that at all. Hopefully the STi version looks a lot better. People say that other shapes have grown on them but that's (IMO) down to the fact that you can trace the shape of the latest ones right from the first ones. They have evolved. Even the Bug eye ones are much and such the same shape as the rest albeit with a different front end. The new one there though is such a change of look that it will take quite a while to get used to it (if at all). I understand the need for a hatch in WRC but why couldn't they have come out with a new smaller model alongside the Impreza to run in the WRC, that way the road car could have purely been an STi version without any humdrum family models in the line up.
nanaki Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 if thats the base model then thats one thing. show me the STI before i judge.
david_taylor Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I will wait and see when Subaru do an official launch. Then I will make judgement. Whether the pics are real or not, its pretty consistant with the previous shots, that they are going to make it more of a hatch. If its true I would never even consider getting one. It looks old and dated. Pretty much like they have stole designs from various other cars and put them all together. Mingin!
the squiggle Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I, for one, applaud them for being bold The current spec car was up against it in the WRC due to its bulky nature and large overhangs at either end. The top dogs at STI realised the base model was flawed and needed a radical approach to get the car competitive again, hence the radical redisign eliminating the overhangs from either end. I can pretty much guarentee that the new design of car will be more successful than the current gen cars. If the new car becomes successful in the rough and tumble world of WRC then the sales will take care of themself. Still would never buy one as the Classics rule and always will
thewelsho Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Nothign striking, is it? The Impreza generally isn't a pretty car, but it has a presence that even the un-initiated will take note of, even if the can't explain it's attraction. The latest offering, if official is bland to say the least. The cockpit looks better, especially with some controls on the steering wheel, but that wouldn't be enough to make me buy it.
st3ph3n Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 I'm not sure about my opinion. Initially I was completley meh, but now ... hmmm. From the side I think it actually looks pretty good. The front and rear less so. Also in total agreement with Grant regarding the potential of the car with the wheels at the corners, not half way up the sides. There is a saloon and obviously the STI number to come as well. I was initially pretty miffed at the hawkeye, but it's really grown on me, so maybe this will too. If they remove the lexusised lights at the back.
sti pretender Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I think they should have gone down the path of the Prodrive P2, a great car and would have guarantee sales.
RS Grant Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Can only see three wee red crosses... but going by the replies, I'm not missing much!? Cheers, Grant
4Hero Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 just looking at it again while eating my lunch and it's making me feel sick. I cant see how, even with an sti badge, it will look good.
STi_Bandit Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Slightly off topic, but is that engine pictured the new Diesel?? Bandit
